Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner & supper here; this evening we all went down to Levi Gregson’s; had social conversation, looked at picture, played musci [sic], had cookies & apples. Henry was up & him & papa went to the public school took the Farm Bureau Meeting & got there government wheat checks, papa’s was from Pabst $5.06, & Henry’s $22.58; Hughes & Kolmer spoke about the hog & corn, question Mr. Vogt came to see Uncle Fred about renting his place, but it isn’t for rent. Minnie Staufenbiel came to see Aunt Mary, wrote a letter to John Hempe today. Lauts got election washer. Walter Hecke moved to Waterloo last Sun. Alvin [Irvin – ed. correction] Albrecth nee Bertha Muenth have a little baby boy, called it James; now have 4 children.

We finished our quilt took it out of the frame. Berti went to Lizzie Boll’s got the bread. Papa went down to Red Bud, took orders for beef. We went to Robert Lauts played 6 hand pinochle, had cake, & wine. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to New Athens see John.
Tuesday, Dec. 12, 1933
We went to Bellville [sic] sold $6.00 meat & sausage, & 8 doz. egg 30¢. Didn’t sell everything. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, got there sausage & grease; & payed for there hog. $3.35, top price. Today Emil is 50 yrs. old. We made tops for our cushions. It is awful cold today. Harry Wittenauer, is selling beef around, town. The men what are working on the relief fund, at the road, in Lords Corner, start at 8 oclock, quit at 2:30 get, 50¢ hr. $3.00 for 6 hrs. work, there is Pete Watchel, Georg Wagner, Robert Laut, George Boll, Walter Hecke, Hy. Emery, & a good many othere, Geo. Lorgberg is the boss. they started on Dec. 6 working.

We washed, cloudy. Papa plowed the orchard. The road gang are working in town now, ready for laying slab, as far as Rob. Lauts, 200 ft. each way. Jos. Haudrisch got shot by a Hoffman from Paderborn, accident.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up for chicken dinner, had lunch here; him & George helped papa after his pigs hogs. Olivia Laut has quilting today, neighbors are all present. There is case sleeping sickness in Belleville now, those people are quartined [sic] for 3 weeks, 10 more die.

Henry & Floyd came up to see about getting to church tomorrow, they are going to christen the baby tomorrow afternoon at 2 oclock by Eschmann at Waterloo. Chas. Jung bought 4 dozen roasting ears corn for 50¢ wheat is 80¢ at Red Bud; eggs 10¢. Henry Metze & son of Smithon [sic] where here this afternoon on business. Pierre Laut & Roy Neff was selling chances, in a quilt for 10¢, for the pinic [sic] on Aug. 20 at Maniers Park. There is quite a few sales today, Mrs. Sensel estate is being sold at Waterloo today.

Papa is working corn, they brought the mule home last nite. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, had lunch here, he helped papa fix straw stack. Bertille helped them take out some of there onions. eggs are 10¢ today, wheat 83¢ Red Bud. Klotz’s threshing machine started out today, this afternoon. Schilling started couple days ago, thereshing [sic] at Schillings today & tomorrow by Buehler’s. Miss Klinberg of Maeystown spent a few day with Lauts.

Rosalia & Bertille went out to Henrys washed 2 weeks wash, quilts, worked garden had lunch, dinner, lunch. Laurent from Prairie Du Rocher, & papa came out to look at Henry’s cow he had to trade, didn’t make no trade though, then they went to Uncle Freds, made no trade there either, Henry bought a sheep from him yesterday for .50¢ & old one. Ed Scheinder cut our hay around here, & is going to make it on shares. There was a guy here from below Red Bud, wanted to buy horses. Mr. Philip Wuertz & Ted where here got some more hay. Mrs. Rennecker is 61 yrs. old today. Wagner & Lauts went.

We went to Red Bud, & to Ratz’s looked at a horse. Henry & family where up for dinner, & supper. Papa, Henry & boys went to Prairie Du Rocher to looked at horse & colt. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went down to the bridge, & from there came here, had supper, then went home came back again & went to the play in St. Augustine’s Hall school children, gave one Adm. 35¢. We went over to Wagner’s awhile, Rob & Olive Laut came too. Ed Schilling & Mary Furnace where published for the first time in Red Bud, & Waterloo. Miss Frieda Keim, Pete Keim’s daughter & Oscar Jatho, ran of to Belleville & where married last Thurs. afternoon by the squire, he had been going to instructions. Hecker ball team played Floraville at Hecker & won 23 to 3 in favor of Hecker, they won every game so far this season.

It rained last night again. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, we all & Aunt Mary went to Mr. Wm. Lauts funeral this afternoon he looked natural, it was a very large funeral. He was 60 yrs. old; & had lot of flowers, & relatives; most people from Millstadt & Waterloo, Wagner & Herman had the funeral. It is in the paper that Wm. Curran of Tiptown have a baby girl born May 18, & that they are going to have a sale on June 3rd.
