We all went to early mass this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to Floraville to the church picnic. Mr. Carr was here from Renault, he asked the way to Bill Geodelle, to buy a team of horses. Tonight we all went to the picture show the name of it was Rin Tin Tin. Admission .25 and .10¢. At Recess Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary left for the dance down at Weber’s barn. It was a surprise party for Mrs. Weber. Today is Jake Reheis birthday. After the show this evening they raffled out the cards from the picnic. The lucky winners were, Hy. Schneider from Waterloo, John Braun 2 times, Louisa Braun, Peter Kaiser, Joe Kaiser, Oscar Schmidt from Valmeyer, Fred W. Birkner he got a pair of pillow cases. Hecker played ball with St. Louis and won 20 to 4.
Sunday, Sept. 14, 1930
We all went to first mass this morning at 8 o’clock Leona and her two girl friends, Miss Ida Whitkamp, & Miss Lena Koopman. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed for lunch. Second mass is from now until 10:15. Henry came up for that. He helped to move the piano from church over to the new school hall. Next Sun. night will be the first moving picture shown in the hall. Steve Rennecker was over a little while this evening. It rain this afternoon from about 3 until 5:30, showers, it sure was nice & we need it too. Robert Laut couldn’t get his machine started so Perry Klotz pulled him down the hard road a piece until it started. George Wagner’s were up at Floraville last night. Jake Mehrmans had a dance, it also was Bernice Mehrmans birthday. Dan Geodell furnished mass.
Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1930
Rosalia & Bertille went out to Henry’s to help cook apple butter, she got 10 gallons. Mrs. Geodelle was also out, we cook a kettle full of soap, and washed this afternoon & scrubbed the rooms & porches for Leona. We had lunch & dinner out there. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here. We found 19 eggs. Egges are .20¢ a doz. I seen in the paper that $500,000 as fire sweeps Quality & Oakland Foundries at Belleville yesterday. Papa is discing the chicken yards. Henry Meng was over watching Papa disc a little while.
Monday, Sept. 8, 1930
Today is Cletus Buehler’s birthday. Leona called up this afternoon to come out this evening and peel apples. So we went out. The rest helping present were, Mr. & Mrs. Gus Geodelle & Rayomond & 2 Lenhardts boys, Mr. & Mrs. Peter Reheis & family, Joe Geodelle & wife, Dan Geodelle & family, Edna Geodelle & husband & children from St. Louis, Mr. & Mrs. Fred Birkner. We peeled 4 bus. of apples. We found 16 eggs today.
Saturday, Sept. 6, 1930
Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here for lunch, dinner & lunch today, we dug a well. There is about 8 ft. of water. In the evening we drove out to Uncle Fred’s & got them went back to Hecker and took the hard road to Breezy Hill to Gus Geodell’s 25th wedding anniversary, silver. There was a big crowd there. It rained this evening, it just poured down. They stayed at our house all night. Bertille was over an invited Elmer Kammler.

Today is sales all over again, Smithton, Red Bud, Waterloo, Burksville. Papa was talking like going to Geoddelman down by Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here a little while this afternoon. Papa didn’t buy anything at the sale today. This evening we all went out to Cleveland’s dance, we sure did have a good time, there were so many people there. Dan Geodelle & Gus Geodelle, Bill Herzog furnished music. Lemonade, cake, beer were served.

Henry is trashing this morning. We all went out to Uncle Fred’s and Aunt Mary’s and got them then we all went to Henry’s. Mrs. Gus Geodell and Mrs. Dan Geodelle were also helping. They had them for lunch and dinner. After dinner, Papa took the horses & colt & hitched them to the cultivator and drove them to Hecker. We thrashed about 183 bus. out at Henry’s. And here from Kuhns we thrashed about 166 bus. and from Pabst, 63 bus. Kuhn’s thrashed altogether 2300 bus. wheat. Papa hauled to Red Bud 8 bus. and got .78¢ that was Hecker wheat.

Today is Hy. Armstutz’s birthday. Him and Mr. Gambach tend the store. I send a letter to the Auto Ins. Co. for the Chev. $7.18. Kuhus started thrashing today. Tomorrow they will be over at Ed Mengs. Rosalia and Bertille went out to Henry’s this afternoon and took a few things along out from the store what she needed for thrashing. This evening Papa, Rosalia, Bertille went out to Henry’s to see about thrashing. Geodell’s family from Waterloo were also there. We helped Leona string and cut beans for to can. Bertille was up at church this morning.

Leona came up for church by herself this morn. Henry stayed at home and watched the kids, then he went to Waterloo to late mass & brought Jake Geodell’s family along out. Leona had to cook dinner for them. Uncle Fred and Aunt Mary were here for dinner today, they brought some peas & beans, dewberries along up. It rained this afternoon & then they ran for home. Mamie Eichenseer came down a little while this evening until it was time to go to church, then Rosalia, Bertille, Mamie went up to church. It rained this evening again a little. There were 2 St. Franciscans Sisters here, one was Rosa Kaiser. Today the Hecker baseball team played with New Athens. Hecker won 3 to 4. The ball players went coming back from New Athens they slipped in the ditch by Jake Klein’s and tore the mailbox off.
