Rain last night & this morning, getting colder. We got a letter & check $2.40 for pap had witnessed to the handwriting Val. Fritsche will, which was probated at Sept. 15, 1932 & received check today. Koch Undertaker brought Mrs. Louis Birkner to her home about 1 o clock, the funeral will be Sun. afternoon at 2 o clock. It was reported today that Wm. Weigand Sr. 67 yrs. while unloading steers at the stockyard yesterday was kicked & broker his leg, all splintered, he is in the hospital Bellville [sic]. Papa went up after the mail. Several young boys of Tiptown & Burskville [sic] entered the reforestration at Jefferson Barracks Mo. last Mon. for special training, then will be sent out to CCC camp. K. Mc Carthy, E. Kopp, L. Esker, Wm. Crook all of back at Burskville [sic]. Walter Kelley’s little girl left a vise fall on her arm, but no bones were broken.

Beautiful Easter Mon. We washed, ironed, fried in meat. Today is a funeral at Hecker, Catholic cemetery, Irene Durang’s from Newton, Kansas, ship to St. Louis Union Station at 7:30 & there Gundlach has charge & buried at 9:30 here. Mr. Lester Bruns 29 & Melissa Weigand 27, wedding today; Hosto Parsonage at Smithon [sic]. Rosalia & papa went out to haul wood together. Berti spaded chick yard. We went over to Renneckers tonite a little while. Eggs 14¢.

Rose & Bert went up to mass, funeral of Mr. Berg. Koch undertaker. It wasn’t so very large, few neighbors, & relatives. Pallbearears [sic] were Willie Ganley & Reagen, Huber McDermott, Tom Havey, Abrose Doyle, Joe Kunkel. Fr. made a very nice sermon, the body was viewed in back church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon & we all went to Belleville to Mr. John Birkner’s funeral, Uncles step brother, at the home of John Breutigam’s, & the most beautiful flowers & so many, they had. Gardener had charge, & Rev. Pessel, the service, nephews pallbearers, Armstuz’s, Birkners & Hepp’s; It was pretty large. Cold & snowing this afternoon. Rosalia took Aunt Mary over to Mrs. Staufenbeils try her dress, see if he fits all right. Eggs 14¢ Mertz’s. Rose Pour & Mamie came after we were in bed, Mrs. Pour wanted hatching eggs, but we haven’t none this year, no roosters. Adam Eckert has chicken pox; has pretty much fever.

Papa got haircut. We went to Waterloo this afternoon; special sale at Mudds City Grocery, sugar for 48¢ etc; sign your name on a card to win 1 bu. basket groceries; to be raffled this evening; we have our names in. There was two funeral this afternoon in town, McDonald, to Catholic Cemetery; & Max Schlich, Evangaciol [sic] church & cemetery. Robert got 3 teeth pulled by Dr. Hotz, today. The state men are testing the hard road out west, now. Mr. Ed. Meng had a light stroke this morning, they called for Mr. Rennecker, & the doctor, he couldn’t talk Lena said, but he can open his mouth now.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, came here awhile, then we all went to Wilfried [sic] Eichenseer’s funeral, he was 16 will be 17 in June, his pallbearers were, Loraine & Ray Wittenauer, Lee Gregson, Paul Wittenauer, Joe & Paul Parker. It was an awful large funeral, nice flowers. Father made an awful nice sermon, the church was crowded, some standing. Henry & Albert Cleveland, stop in awhile. Bertille went to Lizzie Boll’s got the bread. Some men, around selling apples, we didn’t take none, ironed & patched.

We washed. Mr. Hill came for news. Mr. & Mrs. John Myerscough, & Peter came up to Hecker, thought the funeral was today but it isn’t till tomorrow; so they came here, & had dinner with us. Mr. Wil Harbaugh, mineral feed man, stop & gave us a call; we took our Christmas tree down. They took Mrs. Philip Braun to Oakville, [Okwaville] to a hospital; she has rehumatism [sic] so awful bad, Rita went along yesterday.

Mrs. James Ganley is getting buried, be at Hecker 9 o clock, Catholic church. We went out to the house, Rosalia & Bertie prayed the rosary. The funeral was rather large, had nice bouquet of flowers. Nefphews [sic] acted as pall bearers; were, Willie & Philip Frend, Willie & Jonny Ganley, & Jimmie Brauch. Fr. H. H. Aydt had a very nice sermon. She was the first to be traveled on hard roads, first funeral & her sister Mrs. Brauch, she was the first one on hard road from Waterloo out to cemetery, the people had to walk out, couldn’t drive on it yet at that time. Mr. Jake Mauer of Red Bud age 72 died with a stroke last Mon. evening was buried Thurs. morn. at Red Bud. Uncle Fred is 59 yrs. old. We went out this evening, quite a crowd, Christ Buehler family, Henry Birkners family, Henry Brand family, Ignatz Neff & family, Adam Eckerts family, Willie Birkner’s family, Frank Birkner family, Oscar Birkners family. Cake, & lemonade where served. Pinochle & lotto were played; attendance prize was a plate, Mrs. Christ Buehler, received it, prizes were given to the highest lotto players; crowd left 11 o clock.

It is awful cold, had ice last night; The Evangical [sic] League have Euchre, pinochle, bluey & dance in Kammlers Hall to nite. Buddy Ettling was here last night, wanted papa to help him bring the heifers up today. Papa went out to Henry’s, Ettling couldn’t bring them because they had to go St. Louis to a funeral, this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & Rosalia & Tillie went to the euchre, Rose got pillow cases; Aunt Mary got plates glass. Rheinhardt furnished musci [sic] for the dance, also 2 Skaers boy’s; it was an awful large crowd, the tables where fill in euchre & pinochle, & they had to get more chairs to play bluey, just crowded & not many prices [sic – prizes]. Adm. 25¢.

We are cooking catsup, fixing fence. Robert Rettinghouse funeral is this afternoon, they have him at John Lipperts service at the house, then to the Hecker cemetery, papa & Bertille walked down to the cemetery & rode home with Uncle Fred; it was a very large funeral, singers at the grave; it took 10 mins till they all got through Hecker. He has 3 children Clarence 28, George 23, Viola 14. The pall bearers where all cousins, Elmer Rettinghouse, Louis Armstutz, Oscar & Rob Lippert, 2 Weber boys.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary rode along down to Brauns with us, John Schilling read a german prayer at the house before they left, the pallbearers were 6 cousins, Norbert & Morris Braun, Leo & Willie Braun, Paul Wittenauer, Kenneth Neff; large funeral. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this evening, was here for supper, brought peaches along, we got our cans all filled now. Eggs are 16¢ now in the stores here.
