Papa went out on a business trip. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up for the weekend. This evening they went to Armstutz’s, Mrs. birthday. There is a birthday Yvone & at Rapp’s, a surprise party, we were not invited but Uncle Fred was.

Wednesday, June 22, 1932

We went to Belleville this afternoon to Miss Zimmlich sale, adminstrator [sic] sale, & everything cheap, we bought $2.50 worth stuff, 2 rockers, 3 chairs etc. & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary bought lots goods, chairs, tables etc. They came up this evening & brought some of ours along up, then we all went out to Chris Buehler’s Iren’s birthday 10 yrs. popcorn, beer & cake where served, Henry & Frank, Birkner family, & Papenbergs & us folks.

Saturday, June 18, 1932

Papa went to Belleville this morning. Rosalia is on the sick list yesterday & today, so many people are now. Mrs. George Boll. Mr. Rettinghouse had a stroke the other day while coming home from carrying lunch, right in the yard it happened. Two connecting rods burned out in the chev. so papa left it at Barthel’s garage to get it fixed, he brought papa home. It was so hot today 95 in the shade & the oats bugs so bad. We took a drive up to Smithon [sic] & got a barrel that papa bought at Bernius sale. Ross is living on the place now, he bought it for $8.50. We stopped at Barthel’s, but the car wasn’t finished yet, we also stopped at George Burnius [? – is crossed out] to see wether [sic] he had the key. George Wagner’s family came over awhile, we had lemonade, he is shocking wheat for Chas. Wagner this year. Today is Ignatz Neff’s birthday, the Birkner bunch went, had beer, cake, wieners.

Tuesday, June 14, 1932

We picked beans for the first time this year, for dinner. Henry & family for here for dinner & lunch, he cut wheat till about 3:30 & started to get black & real windy, it looked awful, had a little rain. Bert Thompson gave us an invitation for a birthday dance in Weber’s barn, it is Mr. Weber’s birthday, but it turned out to be a bad night, rain; so we didn’t go. George Wagner came over here a little while this evening.

Saturday, June 4, 1932

Uncle Fred & papa went to Waterloo on business this morn. Aunt Mary stayed here, they had dinner here, then we all went to Smithon [sic] to Bernius Sale, bought a few things. This evening we went out to Hy. Birkner’s birthday dance, nice crowd present, cake was served.

Monday, May 30, 1932

Decoration Day. Church Pinic [sic] in Alten [sic – Alton] & here in Hecker, & school pinic [sic] at Waterloo. Hy. Armstutuz was here this morn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here helping to make hay, they & Hy. Meng had dinner, he helped too. This afternoon Uncle Fred took Aunt Mary up to the pinic [sic], & her stuff but no chickens, then he came back & helped finish with the hay, they had lunch here, Uncle Fred ate supper with us, then went down to Red Bud to drug store. There where so many people at the pinic [sic], they didn’t have enough chicken, 30 people went down, didn’t eat no supper, had to wait to long till the chicken was all fryed [sic]. This evening we all went out Henry Birkner’s, Mary’s birthday, had a dance out there. Lip. Meuth & 3 other fellows where here & they looked at the colts, drunk as could be, they where out all nite at a dance at Fahey’s. eggs 7¢ today.

Sunday, May 29, 1932

We went to Waterloo Church, papa wanted to see Rob. Merz. about tin roof, this afternoon him & his family came out for awhile. Mrs. Rennecker has lot of company today, she is 60 yrs. old. We went out to Uncle Fred’s this evening. She & Lonie where at the cemetery for service this afternoon, so many strange people where there. He made a nice sermon & everything looks nice. The priest that was to make the sermon had a nervous breakdown.

Tuesday, May 24, 1932

Today is birthday Henry’s 28 yrs. old & also the 4th wedding anniversary. We went out this evening, ice cream, cake where served to the following: Mr. Gus Geodelle & family, Henry Birkner’s family, Albert Cleveland’s family, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary. George Wagner got a fork here this morn. to straw potatoes at Chas. Wagner’s.

Ed Scheinder was here & took a look at the colts. Aaron Papenberg came & invited us out to Geo. Parker’s barn dance, Carol is celebrating her birthday there. The Fahey twins celebrated there birthday at Oak Grove last night, Adm. 25, Papenberg said he was there. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where her awhile then went home. George Schilling was here to see papa. Mr. Branderburger & also Weber from Red Bud, where here to see the colts. We went out to Parker’s this evening, cake & cookies where served.

Sunday, May 8, 1932

Josie Gregson’s birthday. We went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here this morning awhile & this afternoon they went to see Louis Birkner’s, Edmund Eckert is getting better they said there, they came back here again & Uncle Adam & Emil was also here, they all had lunch. Abromse [?] Doyle & Joe Kelley & son & Paul Poney where here looked at the colts. Josie Keller & girl friend Miss Mckurns from St. Louis came, Josie has a new Chev. coupe, they had supper here also Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, they took Aunt Mary along down to see Lizzie Boll. About 7:30 they left for St. Louis again, she just got her new car Tues. Lena Meng was here, Josie gave her a ride when they went home, took her along a far as Stehfest corner, Lena went to get the milk. Ed. Burke & family came to look at the colts. Two fellows from Fateyville [sic – Fayetteville] wanted to buy small pigs, where here, company all day, 16 in all.
