Thursday, Oct. 6, 1932

Francis Eichenseer was here & looked if he should get here with his truck, he is going to bring a load afterwhile. Papa is going to Waterloo & to Ed. Rehlings to see the building of a straw hen house, he said there were a good many people there. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon, Rosalia & Bertille had lunch over there. We picked 2 sacks full green tomatoes & they took them along for Ronnerberg. Odillo & Wilfred onloaded the coal, 100 bus. $13.00. Mrs. Kock is having a birthday celebration tonight at Coxeyville, we didn’t go, we had an invitation & it was also in the paper.

Saturday, October 1, 1932

A man around selling a patent to clean bottles & jars & things for 10¢, we took one; people here wanted to buy eggs & chickens we, had ours sold already. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up, he got his pump fixed by Eichenseer’s. Mr. Ed. Pabst was here brought 7 bus. potatoes. Ralph Ettling was here. The alarm ring went over the line stating that Dr. Isslehardt dentist was going to start in Hecker in Maniers place next Wednesday Oct. 5, office hours 9 to 5, opened on Wed. only. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up again this evening went to Mike Armstutz’s birthday. Mr. Stiehl is celebrating his birthday at Weber’s barn tonite.

Tuesday, Sept. 27, 1932

We washed, ironed, patched, cooked a kettle of soap. Chris Buehlers was here a little while this morn, on his way down to Red Bud to get a load of hogs from butcher. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up all afternoon. The egg man got 19 doz. eggs 19¢. He brought some molasses 3 gals. for 30¢ gal. by Cakokia [ed. note: think this might be Cahokia], from last year. The way talk is out Jack Ganley must look terrible 2 black eyes & all stracthed [sic – scratched] up, by Jack Mueth & Phil Mueth at his home Sat. night, sheriff was out at the house at 2 ‘oclock. Jack wears glasses now. This evening we all went out to Henry’s. Leona birthday 22 yrs. old, cake & water where served, the guests were, Gus. Geodelle & family, Albert Cleveland & family, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & us.

Saturday, Sept. 24, 1932

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed at Hecker all nite, they brought the soup here & we all had dinner, then they left for home. Mr. Ed. Meng was here awhile. Emil Merhmans have a little baby girl since last week, Mary Louis, they are going to call it, they have 2 girls. Louis Petri Jr. is giving a free birthday dance tonite at Charfin Bridge, there are dances all over, Irene Reheis band is having one at Daab’s Club House at Smithon [sic],  Weber Barn, musci [sic] by Ill. Roamer’s. Rod & Gun Club. Clarence Rausch had a birthday celebration last nite at Weber’s Barn. Papa got crushing done this morning, George Schilling went to Olkalohoma [sic – Oklahoma], & Roy Staunfbiel is on the sick list with a cold.

Friday, Sept. 16, 1932

This morning there where 2 airplanes flew fast around Hecker, they sure made a noise. There was people going around selling rugs, & some linen & one apples $1.25 ¢ bu. Fred Nobbe Sr. passed away last Thurs; he was 93 years of age. Mr & Mrs. Leo Kohler have a baby girl since Sept. 3. Mr. & Mrs. Matt Crowe celebrated there Crystal wedding anniversary last Tues. Mr. Chas. Boll was 84 yrs. old last week & Sun. Chas. Heoreth came home from the hospital & then they had 38 for supper.

Thursday, Sept. 15, 1932

We & Aunt Mary went to Belleville, & Rosalia got a red dress for $4.77 & hats 59¢. Mrs. Wm. Birkner was here a little while. Lavern Keorker was going around town selling apples $1.00 bu. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to the Rod & Gun Glub [sic – Club] House tonite. Mrs. Probst is celebrating her birthday there. Henry & family came up this evening, she took a basket tomatoes along home. The Farm Advisor Hughes is going to vaccinate his hogs for him Sat. morning & ours too. We sold 2 of our hams one 19¼ lbs. & 21 lbs. @ 15¢, Kolmier & Winkler of Waterloo got them. Papa got a glass of molasses this eve, at the factory, he hauled cane again this afternoon.

Tuesday, Sept. 13, 1932

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon. Mr. Jung got 18 doz. eggs 16¢ this eve. We shocked & cut 2 rows corn. We went over to Aunt Mary’s this eve. George Wagner’s family came over too. Today is Ed. Parker’s birthday.

Monday, Sept. 12, 1932

We washed, ironed, made butter & cheese. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where at Waterloo & from there to Belleville & then up here, we ate lunch with them, liver sausage, then they went home; for Frank Birkner’s birthday tonite. Setel the butcher from Smithon [sic] was here & looked at our annimals [sic], but didn’t want any. We picked a bu. tomatoes for Leona this eve. Henry & Dan Geodelle came & got the whey.

Wednesday, Sept. 7, 1932

Miss Bell is 63 yrs. old today. Jung the egg man was here & got 39 doz. eggs at 15¢. Papa cut corn on Uncle Fred’s place, & then he got some whey, 2 barrels for Henry. We are cooking catsup, canning some 4 qts, & 7 qts & 4 pints saurkraut [sic]. We have the cans all filled now. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s to cut corn there. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up again this afternoon. Shcinder is plowing here. Jung was here & cashed his check.

Sunday, Sept. 4, 1932

We all went out to Uncle Fred’s had chicken dinner, then got ready & went to Waterloo to see the parade & pinic [sic], it was good, & this evening we went out to Geo. Fruend’s, they had a little boy, celebrating Creses birthday, had supper there. It was a nice day.
