St. Blase Day. Henry & Leona & Bert [Bertille] went to Belleville, Robert & Billy [Willis] stayed here. Floyd went to school. Rob. wasn’t feeling very good. Leo & family came to left Marita here & then went to Belleville to, she got new coat. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came this afternoon, also Emil. Cold today & frozen hard, everybody out. Edwin Reheis is pretty ill with pneumonia, temperature is below normal, down to 87; the children are also pretty sick yet. Bill & Al Karban were here while, played 2 games pinochle.

Went to Red Bud; raining all day & nite an awful wind. Bill [Klein] came, we played cards this evening. Aloys Roth have a baby girl; Fr. Spor’s wasn’t satisfied with the results of the euchre Thurs. nite $42. clear.
Thursday, Jan. 26, 1939
Nice day warm. A. [Aunt] Mary’s birthday 62 yrs. old. We went out this afternoon, had supper. Went with Whip. roads aren’t so nice. Pap went to Larsons by Burksville bought 8 pigs $34.00. Leo & family, Bill [Klein], came this eve; we quilted & played cards. Red Bud church has euchre tonite. Frank Birkners have a baby girl since Tues. also Oliver Quirins a girl Belleville hospital since Jan 21. Billy [Willis] has got pink eye now. Floyd arm is sore.

Went to mass; rather cold again for change, its 20 [degrees] above this morn. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stayed awhile, went home. Leo & family came this afternoon, went to Red Bud, to Dr. Pautler got vaccinated, that is Leo & Marita $1.50; not good to all get it at same time. Bill [Klein] came, he went to Dr. Eckert’s his folks all were vaccinated today. Eckert does it little different then Pautler; he also charges $1. person. We got Emil over for a pinochle game this eve; about 5 or 6 games.
Wednesday, Jan. 18, 1939
Cloudy. Leo & family came down, we had chicken soup dinner; he helped pap fix fence, got 2 sows from here, took them there with Whip.; on trade for heifer from Leo, brought that home here; they did the work while home, had supper here, stayed awhile, quilted this eve. Steve Renneker came, paid for his hog $[unclear] @ $7.75. Bill [Klein] came & Bert [Bertille] went to Paderborn to Euchre party, had 8 points got table cloth & Bill had 7 got can pineapple, quite a crowd present, had a dance after, musci [sic] by Jac. Schoenborn. Henry came to get black & [unclear]. Mary Grossheim was found dead in bed this morn. hadn’t been ill at all, will be 62 in May, buried Sat. morn.

Nice day, little cloudy. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stayed awhile. Jake Neff has small pox, put sign up today. We went to see Leo’s this afternoon, has supper there, Marita still has a little cold yet; quite a few people are still being vaccinated all around here. Bill [Klein] & Bert [Bertille] went to St. Louis to Audoritium [sic] to see Hill Billy Show, & it was good, seats were all filled 12, 000 then were so many standing.
Wednesday, Jan. 11, 1939
Papa went out to Henry’s farming clover seed. Cloudy this afternoon, turned chickens out today & eggs today are 15 [cents] sure dropped within the last week, because of warm weather. Bill [Klein] came & Bert [Bertille] went along to Floraville to card party given by Church members, & what a crowd, never seen nothing like it before all tables filled & all bingo players, we played bingo, got nothing.

Went to mass. Mrs. McCafferey passed out. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stayed awhile. We took pictures this afternoon, such a beautiful day. Mr. Judge Schneider is being buried this afternoon from Wagner’s funeral parlor to church & was buried at Catholic Cemetery by his wife. Mr. Klube of Waterloo died to, will be buried Tues; Mrs. Geodelle’s Uncle. Bill [Klein] & Bert [Bertille] went to Paulters tonite to a dance given by Ozark Ridge runners, swell music but no crowd, mostly all Columbia people there; musci [sic] sure good.
Tuesday, Jan. 3, 1939
Washed ironed; hauled wood, in basement. Nice just like spring. Bill [Klein] came brought pictures, that we took on Christmas, they got pretty nice, all except 2, was no good. Berniece got doz. eggs; Geo. & Clara’s Wedding Ann. today, german band played a piece in there honor. Emil came over to get 4 doz. eggs for Grace Ellis, who came this eve. 25 [cents].
Monday, Dec. 26, 1938
Raining nearly all day. Bill [Klein] came & took us along to Leo’s. Henry’s family also went for dinner & supper; played cards, checkers etc. Pap went along home with Henry’s & Bert [Bertille] went along with Bill to there place, for him to do his work, then came home again.
