We washed ironed. Pap went to Waterloo, to Farm Bureau Meeting. Emil was here & Jac. Erle. Brand’s family came this evening. Mrs. Ed. Moffit won the Ford V.8 at Dupo. Sure hot 93 at 4:30 over the radio. Eggs 17¢ spring chix 19.

Wednesday, June 3, 1936

Clarence Braun & fellow that stays at Weber’s got the horse he rode him home, comes from Ark. last week, & is working for Weber now. Pap & Rose went to Red Bud to see Zipfel about little chixs. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came worked the garden etc, has a good heavy rain last nite, surely was nice, but lot of wind, broke some trees down by Hills & Renneker’s; not here. Henry came up cut clover hay this afternoon, had lunch. Rose & Bert went to Geo. Wagners to coffee demonstration; for supper, those present were all invited guests, Mrs. Geo. Harry & Elmer Kammlers, Mrs Pickett, Mrs. Chas. & Milton Wagner, Mrs. Bill Probst, Lena Meng, Mr. & Mrs. Mehrmann, Mrs. Laut, few ordered the coffee 2 lbs. 67¢, Mrs. Geo. Kammler is going to give a supper on June 17, at her place. Olivia Laut had one to at 1:30 this afternoon for invited guests; also. Bert went to Renneker’s got pt. honey for Henry, seen her coffee dripper & bowls she got. Mrs. Pickett won door prize at Wagner’s, a bowl. We went out to Ed. Parkers to see about chixs, didn’t take none, then went to Heyl’s Hatchery in Waterloo & got 149 chix, $6.50 100, mixed.

We washed, ironed, cleaned basement. terrible windy. A guy from Fult’s looked at our horse & pigs. Pap was over by Meng’s awhile. We cleaned the rooms over by Aunt Mary’s, accross [sic] the street there. They were up this evening awhile. Eggs are only 16¢ now. Cool nights.

Beautiful Decoration Day. Pap went to see Uncle Adam this afternoon. School pinic [sic] in Waterloo this morn; all day dance in new pavillion [sic]. The Paderborn Hatchery is having a dance at Carrie Totchs Hall there tonite free; we went to the school pinic [sic] dance at Pautlers pavillion [sic], nice crowd, good time.

We had the 1st spring leghorn for dinner, small yet, but was pretty good; nice meal. Jac. Erle & guy were here talking house Ins; wrote the paper out, we are going to join in there Ins. Co. instead of Rapp’s at Columbia, that’s house & property Insurance. It is so hot again today, still no rain. Radio said at 5:30 this morn. it 70°. Pap got his hair cut, & also paid Dr. Eckert, $7.50 – $6. for going to Belleville, $1.50 for coming here that morning; he wouldn’t had to went to Belleville at all never, even came to see him while he was at the hospital, but he’s paid. We went out to Uncle Fred’s had supper, brought Oscar’s kids along from school; they were walking by the cemetery, took them up. Went over to Geo. Wagner’s this eve. awhile. Joe Wacthels went to a new barn dance, on Freeburg oil road, about 2 miles from Douglas tonite.

Ascenscion [sic] “Holiday” Went to Red Bud to 6’oclock mass. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came went along to Belleville with us; we got new dresses; pap went to Dr Frein’s office, should come back again next week. Beautiful day. There were a lot of people from Hecker & Paderborn at Belleville today. Fr. Aydt & Dramatic Players, & Mr. & Mrs. Joe Griffin & Pearl, 15 in all went on an outing to Fort Gage & Chester, he furnished dinner eats & drinks beer.

Sunday, May 17, 1936

Mrs. Staufenbiel came & went along with Rose & Bert to church, had Solemn Communion at 7:30 mass, 6 boys & 6 girl, 1 boy took sick, & also 1 girl, Martha Agnes McDermott who is at hospital in E. St. Louis for appendix, also Keoinstein of below Hecker is over there, pretty bad. Bill’s daughter, she is young yet. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Clara & Agnes Gregson stopped from church. Ed. Meng Katie Klotz, all called here a short while to see pap, also Joe & Josie Alberta Gregson on there way home from Waterloo, stopped. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came back this evening again. It rained pretty good here, this eve. The baseball team has a dance at Kammlers Schmidts Merrymakers musci [sic]; the crowd wasn’t so large we heard. Omer came & we went to Pautler’s to Mrs. Martin Karban’s birthday dance, Rythm [sic] Kings musci [sic]. Gents 25¢ ladies free. Nice crowd.

Saturday, May 16, 1936

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, had dinner here, we had beef soup, him & Rose went to Waterloo with all of the wheat from out there, got 78¢. Henry & family stopped in, took Floyd to hospital, got his hand re bandaged. Boys stayed here. Emil & Bert Thompson called on pap this afternoon, we opened the davenette & he sleeps, or rests on there during day. We baked lemon pie this afternoon. Eggs 18¢. Mrs. Joe Watchel & Clara Wagner got permanents at Belleville yesterday. The bill at the hospital for 10 das. [days] including room & board, washing (operating room $8.00), & surgical dressings. Lab ex. medicine $53.75. John Hepp came on business. The Chev. Dealer of New Athens, called again to; so far nothing yet; making trades for Uncle Fred’s car.

Uncle Fred went in to Belleville got pap & Rose home he stood it pretty good; Lizzie Boll visited a little while here.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Rose, came in to hospital also Ben Heyl’s were in there. Schmidt mail carrier, called here for a prize for the euchre tonite at Red Bud given by the men, we couldn’t take it in. Sure nice weather, but no rain, drying up.
