Went to Waterloo church, stopped at Henry’s awhile. The Maeystown ball players & Hecker, played in Hecker. The all stars are sure lucky so far this year, they haven’t lost a game, won today 18-5. Storekeeper Mertz is the pitcher this year. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening, take in the musci [sic] at Kammlers Hall, the “Pals of Harmony” played & also gave the dance, Gents 25 ladies free, we were there awhile, not so much doing, no crowd at all. Too many other dances tonight, Brezzy Hill, Chas Sensel’s, & several others.

Papa got crushing done. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, him & papa went to Waterloo on business, met Heme Bros. Aug. Will. had lunch here, Uncle bought some ice cream, & Oh Boy was it good. We went to free dance at Donahu’s tonight, musci [sic] by the Okaw Valley Ramblers, from Evansville; & my what a crowd was there.

We went out to Uncle Freds picked 1½ gal. berries, made jelly, had lunch there. Papa went out to Henry’s helped set up schrocks. Mr. Ralph Neff 25 & Annie Dietz 24 were married Sat. June 16 at Catholic Church in Waterloo, Celestine, bridesmaid, & Herman Diez groomsmen; they are going to live in St. Louis; were he is employed.

Rob. Mertz is going to put a new roof on the shed binder out at Henry’s today. Summer begins. They oiled to Hecker streets. Cleaned chick house. Henry & family came, kids stayed here had dinner, Bertille rode along with them to Belleville, shopping. We sure had a nice rain, rather windy. There was a man killed on the Columbia hardroad, in automobile accident. Mr. & Mrs. Omar Mertz of Red Bud have a baby boy born June 15. Mrs. Bertha Probst has returned home from the hospital. Miss Marjorie Rausch is in the hospital, was operated for appendix. Beautiful evening after the rain. Had first chicken & kraut slaw dinner.

Papa & Rose went out to Henrys again, had lunch, dinner & lunch. Clifford had borrowed our disc & brought it back yesterday. Mr. Al. Rittmeyer & Miss Alice Mantle were married today at 3:30 in Belleville in Evangical [sic] Church, dance at Eagles Home, Belleville tonight. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening & we went to Waterloo, on business to see Mr. Loehr & Hempe Bros; everything is settled now, they received there money from the government. Awful wind today.

We all went out to Henry’s, helped wash, iron & patch, had lunch, dinner & lunch. They finished cutting wheat, used about 130 lbs. twine; started cutting oats. Emil was shocking. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this evening, brought some dewberries along, she put away 2 gal.; nice cool evenings. Rose fixed a Whip. tire, patched it.

Rose took papa out to Henry’s, shock wheat. We washed, ironed; nice cool breeze this morn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here for lunch, he broke scicle driver, brought it up for Fritische to fix. We went out to Henry’s to get papa this evening. Eggs 11¢. I noticed in the paper there was a accident happened on Route 3, Alf. Matthews, was struck by hit & run driver, he was taken to Red Bud hospital were he is still unscoious [sic – unconscious]. He & wife & brother in law Cletus Miller; & were attending a dance, it happened 5 mis. north west of Red Bud.

Rose & Bert, went to Red Bud church, took Helfrichs along, then we & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary drove down to Red Bud, was going to go to Martin Fahey’s, & our machine didn’t work; so we took it to Schrieber’s garage & got oil changed generator put in for $6.25, then it got to late, so we went home. Uncle Fred & Aunt had lunch here this morn. Papa & Rose went out to Henry’s cut wheat papa drove the binder. Uncle & Aunt came here, took Bertie along to Martin Fahey’s, & also his other farm; came home past Henry’s & stopped there, all had lunch. Uncle took our mule along & Aunt & Rosalie drove the car, she had supper over there; papa & Bert came home together; it got awful black & cloudy little wind & rain this evening. There was an airplane landed in Braun’s field; cause of weather. Geo. Wagners have lot of company today. Chas. birthday. Maniers have a dance tonight, musci by Jolly Six of Red Bud. Adm. 25¢. Band concert in Mascoutha [sic].

Papa & Rose went out to Henry’s again all day, help shock wheat, had lunch, dinner lunch, there. Bertille baked pie. The days are awful warm, & evenings cool; & awful dry. Donahue’s are having a free dance again tonite, musci [sic] by Night Hawks, we didn’t go, to tired; also free for the ladies at Pautler’s, & Brezzy Hill.

Papa hauled load posts home, he & Rosalia went out to Henry’s this afternoon, had lunch, there. They didn’t get started cutting till 3 o’clock, till they had the new binder set up works fine. papa helped shock. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening; they got a letter today from postmaster Loehr of Waterloo, to come to Waterloo tomorrow afternoon, that Wm. & John Hempe, received the paper from the government, & will pay up everything. Mr. Loehr came out this evening to talk things over; the bonds aren’t in yet, come in a few day’s. Mr. Louis Dehn, was here for eggs, we only had a few; he is going to buy dewberries from Gus Blackburn 75¢ bucket.
