Hy. Stather & Martin Fahey have shooting matches today. We went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up, but didn’t stay. Henry came up to get skim milk, but he couldn’t get any. It rained all day & nite. Mr. & Mrs. Steve Rennecker came over _ this afternoon, we had played 3 games pinochle, 2 to 1. Bertille held 1500 trump in spades in one deal & papa held 1500 in spades in another deal.

It is cloudy, & raining all day. Bertille went over to Rennecker’s got the papers. See in there Daily Advocate that Robert Groom Jr. & Mary Louis Sterling where married at Carlinville on July 31, it was kept a secret till now. Mr. Groom is going to a miner School in St. Louis, when he has finished that they will make there home with Mr. & Mrs. Bob Groom West A St. Belleville. It is also in the paper that Fr. Grootens has paroled 2 boy out of jail, Chas. Burke the first one he had here & Tackett both of Belleville, they held up a filling station.
Wednesday, Oct. 19, 1932
Hy. Armstutz was here. Ed Scheinder finished sowing wheat up here this morn. Papa went out & cleared a road in the woods to haul grovel out. Bertille went to the dentist. Mrs. Rennecker came over awhile. Those fellows that work on the telephone lines came here, on business. We sold 7 doz. eggs 25¢ to strangers from E. St. Louis, they stopped in. Today is Ralph Rausch birthday 21 yrs. old, Henry is surprising him tonite with a dance at Harry’s. Henry Rausch invited papa & us. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came then we all went up to the dance, nice crowds, all different kinds of musci [sic], Ill. Roamer, Karl Boll, Wm. Hy Birkner, beer & cake where served, one cake with 21 candles burning. Joe Hilpert & John Beshtolff of Belleville came here awhile before we went to the dance, they stay here by the priest, are carpeting out on the church place, they are putting new boards around the barn.

Papa & Rosalia went out in the woods to get a load of gravel. Tonite is Republican Speaking at the Kirsch School in Lords Corner, free lunch & everybody invited. Bertille went up town this evening & then to Rennecker’s to get the papers. The Hecker Catholic congregation of young boys & girls & Belleville’s are having a halloween dance in the hall tonite.
Wednesday, Oct. 5, 1932
Bertille went up to Dentist Isslehardt, & got her tooth fixed, relieved the pain, & come back next Wed. morning. Henry Birkner & his wife came too, he got a tooth pulled. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & we went to Belleville this afternoon, Rosalia got a coat $9.90, they stayed had a little supper, they bought a liver saussage [sic] at Braun’s, 15¢ lb. Mr. Adolph Rittmeyer was here & him & papa went out to Henry’s to look at a hog. Tonite is a telephone meeting here. H.M. Hill & Steve Rennecker where the only ones present the rest had all payed there dues, there is only 6 members.

Bertille went over to Rennecker’s to exchange papers this afternoon. Henry brought a load of corn up this afternoon. Chas Jung got 30 doz. eggs 20¢. Rosalia sewed jumper for papa. Iromme Rapp is going to Red Bud High School started this week. Geo. Pautlis Jr. had a wedding dance at his home last Sat. night, he married Eliza Roberts from New Florence Mo. Miss Frances Doyle & a guy from St. Louis got married last Sat. Papa took the cream up to Eichenseer’s shipped it over to St. Louis to the Blue Valley Creamery have to pay him 25¢ to take it over, we had 8 lbs on our scale. Bertille got the can again this evening.

It is cloudy, we didn’t wash. We cleaned truck patch this afternoon. Mr. Jatho was here to see wether [sic] he could put that sugar cane pressing on our ground, then he wouldn’t have to throw it on his potatoe [sic] patch. Mr. Will Voges was here wanted to see Uncle Fred. Geo. Purtle’s was here to see about hogs this afternoon, but we weren’t here at the time. Mrs. Rennecker came over & told us about it, he is going to call up this evening. Henry & Floyd where up, he took a load of sugar cane & got whey. It made 60 lbs. they put it through right away.
Thursday, Sept. 22, 1932
Papa went to Waterloo this morn, & got the whippet repaired, brakes fixed, car greased & oil changed for $12.94. Mrs. Rennecker was here awhile this morn. A man around selling fish 20¢ lb. Mr. Fisher the butcher from Waterloo was here & looked at our cow, & hogs. Walter Gregson was here & bought stock roosters @ 10½¢ lb. 18 lb. This evening we drove out to George Boll’s & looked at his cow, then went & stopped in at Roy Staunfbiel & then to Uncle Fred’s awhile. There is Republican Meeting in Kammler’s Hall tonite, Henry went, sandwiches & soda free.
Friday, Aug. 26, 1932
It rained last night, we cut in 2½ saurkraut [sic] this morning. Rang over the lines this morn, that Geo. Lorberg is going to have a shooting match next Sun. on ducks, & pigs. Papa got a letter from Gus. Blackburn, for $3.00 that papa owes him for road rent 1 yr. ago; they had called it straight, till now it want his pay. Papa hauled a load of wood & he seen Gus, so he is going to pay him in the near future. A fellow from St. Louis was here & bought 12 doz. eggs & 9 lbs. springs 13¢ & eggs 15¢. Bertille went over to Renneckers with the papers.

Papa went to get crushing done. Today is Mrs. Cleveland’s birthday. We all went to Wm. Sharpe’s sale on the Ritzel farm east of Waterloo, but didn’t get nothing, good sale, it was supposed to start in the morning, we took our dinner along. It rain a little this evening. Mr. & Mrs. Rennecker, & Henry & family where here this eve. Henry went to milk meeting in the school hall.
