We washed, ironed, nice day, little windy. Shrove Tues. today, Josie Keller’s birthday, 44 yrs. old. Mrs. Stauenfbiel is moving, Zita’s & Felicia’s furniture, storing in by Hy. Rausch; so Mr. & Mrs. Hy. Volkman will move in part of her house, at present. The Men of Augustine’s Parish will give a Pinochle & Euchre tonite in school hall. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came then Rose & Bert rode along up to the euchre, & Oh! my what a crowd; 36 tables euchre, alone, without sleepers, & pinochle. Attendance prize $1.50 worth of different articles, all 10¢ each, was won by Lee Howery. Quilt was raffled to Herbert Schmidt Red Bud, so many people from all over, Ruma Myerscough’s, Evansville, Waterloo, Red Bud, Smithon [sic], & all different places. We weren’t lucky, Uncle got a bucket, & Aunt got dougnuts [sic] : dish what she she took there; several nice prizes. Miss Keller won 2 prize 1 left them here for next euchre. Dances at quite a few places.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came we butchered 3 hog, had dinner & supper. Josie Keller came just before dinner. She couldn’t get her car startd, so Katie Klotz brought Josie & Ida along, Aunt Mary, Josie went quilting by Cara Armstutz’s this afternoon; it isn’t as cold again today. Red Bud Young People Sodality are giving euchre, lotto, 500; we all went, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Josie, Bertille got lucheon [sic] set, Aunt Mary got dress and gave it to Rosalia, Papa got table cloth. The rest got no thing, the cake was won by Mrs. Oswald. Raffle & attendance prize a ham, to Mr. Hahn of Red Bud. It wasn’t a very large crowd. It is in tonite’s paper, The. [?] Pleuger, 2 miles north of Red Bud 35 yrs. old, residing with his father, shot & hung himself in there barn today, was found 3 hrs. later.

We butched [sic] 2 hogs, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & lunch, dinner & supper, Henry helped too was here for lunch & dinner; took some soup bones, sausage along home. Leona wasn’t feeling so well; we made summer sausage, 10 lbs. beef. Mildred Wacthel brought the 25¢ what she owed on beef. Chas. Heff, stopped in to get beef last we had 6 lbs. George Wagner came & engaged a hog to kill maybe on Sun. They are working steady on the road, 8 hrs. work, 50¢ hr; so he has to butcher on Sun. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here this evening, we all went to the euchre given by Altar Sodality in the School hall, Bertille the highest one of us had 8 points, got box, perfume, bath salts, powder, Aunt Mary had 7, got box letter writing paper, not enough prices [sic – prizes], 4 out of seven points got prizes; pretty good crowd, 23 tables. Fr. Aydt, got first prize 12 points, got magzine [sic] stand. The surprize attendance prize was won by Ethel Parker, $1 bill. Joe Wacthel was here looked at the hogs; he wants one to butcher tomorrow.

We wrote a letter to Internal Revenue Office in East St. Louis, to find out about hog tax. Hy. Meng was here to see about hogs. Ed. Meng is butchering today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came brought 2 cherry trees up. We went to Waterloo to the Memorial Hall, played euchre, 7 games where played, & 10 point on head table before the bell taps. Bertille had 5 & got pillow cases. Papa 4 got apron, Rosalia only had two didn’t get anything. Turkey for attendance prize was won by Mrs. Rheinhold. 500, pinochle, euchre, dominoes play. large crowd. Adm. 25¢.

We went to Belleville sold 9 doz. egg. Went out to Aunt Mary’s, put there meat away, had lunch, supper. It rained this morning, turning colder. Euchre in Paderborn tonite; Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came then we all went up, all 3 of us got prizes, Pap 7 points & double boiler, Rosalia 7 points & apron, Bertille 6 & apron. Aunt Mary had 5 but didn’t get nothing. Uncle had 2; dance after it, music by Kettler & Schaefer, Oh! boy & what a crowd, hall full. Adm. 25¢

It is awful cold this morn. Rosalia is making mitts. Today is election. Euchre in Red Bud tonite. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & we all went to the euchre, Adm. 35¢. Rosalia had 12 points got first prize, a table cloth. Aunt Mary had 10, & got table cloth, the rest were unlucky. Aunt Mary got attendance prize a turkey & she sold it to Schmidt, for $1.00 Miss Leona Vogt won the quilt that was raffled. It was a large crowd. Collinsville men here, wanted railroad ties.

It is awful cold, had ice last night; The Evangical [sic] League have Euchre, pinochle, bluey & dance in Kammlers Hall to nite. Buddy Ettling was here last night, wanted papa to help him bring the heifers up today. Papa went out to Henry’s, Ettling couldn’t bring them because they had to go St. Louis to a funeral, this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & Rosalia & Tillie went to the euchre, Rose got pillow cases; Aunt Mary got plates glass. Rheinhardt furnished musci [sic] for the dance, also 2 Skaers boy’s; it was an awful large crowd, the tables where fill in euchre & pinochle, & they had to get more chairs to play bluey, just crowded & not many prices [sic – prizes]. Adm. 25¢.

Papa went out to Henry’s walked out he was going to help him put ground on the slab, so he could cross with the tractor, he had dinner there, it rained all morn, so they couldn’t do nothing, went over to Levi Ganley’s bought 2 heifers from him for $20.00, Henry took the one for $11.50 & papa one for $8.50; he came home with McAndrews all the way on the hard road, he rode with them from the bridge on to Hecker. Clarence Wagner came here. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up for the euchres. Rosalia & Bertille went up to Mamie’s & then went there to; we didn’t get no prices [sic – prizes], both had 5 points; Uncle Fred got a scarf & she got baby’s outfit. The crowd wasn’t so very large, Miss Elsie Pautler of Evansville got attendance prize, a bed spread. There were quite a few prices [sic].

Papa went to see Quathammers. Olivia Lauts birthday. Christ Buehler was here & looked at our hogs. He & Ino came back this morning, & got 2 hogs. @3.75 $19.50 made a note. The sewing circle of Red Bud gave a euchre, & lotto party in there hall; we went down, but didn’t win nothing, only had 7 points, the nines didn’t all get prizes. Miss Marcella Gregson got the pillow cases what we made; it rained & such awful high wind when came home, nearly blowed everything to piece.
Monday, Feb. 27, 1933
We washed, ironed. Rosalia took Papa out to Henry’s, & from there he went to the woods, to all wood together. Rosalia came home helped wash, & then took the dinner along out, & helped papa finished up. George Wagner’s are butchering today got the hog from Chas. Wagner. Lines 12 & 2 are working on the line, stretching wire etc. rather it is Line 2 now. Mrs. Ella Slateheber & Cleta moved out to Ed Mengs, Sat. they are going to live there now, & Cleta is going to go back & forth on the bus to work, she is secretary to Lindauer’s at Belleville, Ella is out of work, she wanted to rent Uncle Fred’s House in town, but they won’t rent it. Eggs are 11½¢. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up here this evening. Rosalia & Bertille went along to Paderborn Euchre, boy! what a time! Uncle Fred had 8 points got dress goods, Rosalia 6 points got apron,Bertille 7 points got a rug. Aunt Mary didn’t win any thing; they had a real nice crowd; some of 5’s got prizes, they had a lot of them, but not such very nice ones. The quilt was won by Phil Braun Hecker, Ill. They had a dance after 12 games euchre, musci [sic] furnished by Rhinhardt & Skaer Bros.
