Nice day. Went to mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped in awhile after church. Leo came down to the doctor to get medicine, Rose [Rosalia] is in bed, bad cold, otherwise O.K. We went up there this afternoon; had supper there, she is up, coughs once in awhile. Lauts moved piano to Wagners.

Cold this morn. but beautiful this afternoon, 60 [degrees]. Leo came, twice, went to doctor for cough medicine for Rosalia, she has an awful bad cough; he wasn’t home this morn. when he was down, had to come again at noon; was at Monroe Probsts, who has also pretty bad cold. Bill Vogt stopped in looked at our pigs. Here at Hecker church they have lenten devotion on Wed. eve. & Fri. afternoon.
Tuesday, Feb. 22, 1938
Holiday. Went to Leo’s, Pap put there meat away, Bert [Bertille] went along to church with them, to wedding mass. Aloys Roth & Gertie Cortner; best was Hy. Roth & Viola Cortner. Gertie was dressed all white satin & lace set in, veil long. L. Kaiser flower girl, in white carring [sic] basket flowers; Viola with a red dress, silver slippers; had Ford garage men’s Dealers car. We had dinner by Leo’s. Chris Buehler got a hide here that Henry brought up yesterday, he butchered beef yesterday. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came took Bert [Bertille] along to Wedding dance at Daab’s, large crowd & lot presents received. Jac Schoeneborn, Ron Schilling, Laf. Geodelle furnished music, we also stopped in Smithton at Orlets. Mrs. is sitting up, but is weak.

Went to church. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stayed awhile after church. Steve Stiffler came on business. This afternoon Mamie & Clarence, were here, had supper here, we played pinochle all afternoon. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] this eve. Harold [last name unclear] came for news for H. M. Hill who has a cold.
Sunday, Feb. 13, 1938
Went to mass. Mrs. Joe Wacthel, Mrs. Clarence Wittenauer & baby girl Doris & Lucinda came last nite awhile. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up all day, dinner & supper; we played 2 games pinochle; there Uncle went to see Mrs. Mike Armstutz who isn’t very good at present; Bert [Bertille] went along with them out to Mueth’s to see them, Josie isn’t so bad the rest are still in hospital, but getting along well so far. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] stopped in, went to Henry’s all day. Beautiful day 74 again. We went over to see Emil – Lester Gregsons family came also. At 9:30 car drove in here, it was Ed. Heap, looked at the pigs.
Thursday, Feb. 10, 1938
Bert [Bertille] stayed at Orlets all nite, this morn, went along to Belleville, took calf in got 10 [cents]; stopped at Orlets, Mrs. isn’t feeling good today. Fr. Joe was there to. Leona & Billy [Willis] were up quilting all day, all had dinner here; Leo & Rose went home; raining last nite & today. Shield brought 8 hogs here, pap bought from him $52.00; colder, 40. Yesterday at 12 it was 72 & this morn. 35. Our order came everything O.K. Mehrmann got 6 doz. eggs paid 14 [cents] today.
Wednesday, Feb. 9, 1938
Beautiful day. Pap went up to woods. Rose [Rosalia] came this morn. helped quilt; Leo is butchering at Jake’s. Uncle Fred brought A. [Aunt] Mary up to help quilt this afternoon, he came this eve; had supper. Emil was here awhile. Al. Hoffmann came to see A. [Aunt] Mary. Bert [Bertille] went along home with Rose [Rosalia] with our Whip; went with them to Paderborn euchre, didn’t win nothing had 5 points; they had 5 points; they had a dance, also had been the priest was sick, couldn’t be there.

Went to Red Bud, throat blessing. Pap went to see Connor’s this morn; sure warm today; Spring day. Pap went to Smithton to see Orlets, Mrs. is very weak yet. Mrs. Heuman, Annie’s mother in law is there now. Bert [Bertille] got 3 cups & sauscers [sic] for $30.00 purchase by Mertz today. Listened to Major Bowes radio program, sure was good.

Went to mass. Rained heavy last nite, getting colder today, & windy. Bert [Bertille] went to Joe Wacthels this afternoon & Levi & Clara Gregson were here; was by Emil, but he was at Blackburn’s; came over here awhile. Leo & Rose [Rosalia], Jake & Mr. Orlet were here this eve, Jake brought his dad here, & he went along out to Lea’s. Mrs. Orlet is coming home from hospital tomorrow. Pretty cold at 9 o clock was 14 [degrees].
Friday, Jan. 28, 1938
Warmer today, south wind 43 [degrees] at 3: pm. The electric power was shut of [sic] for awhile, over 1 hr; trouble at the quarry. Steve Stiffler of Paderborn was here looking at the horses, pap worked them for him, drove around with the wagon. Miss Mary I James of Waterloo passed away 1 day last week. The paper also says that the familes [sic] of Otto Geodelle & Matt Crowe moved there household furniture to St. Lous, were they will now live. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] & Henry & family came this eve. Mrs. Orlet is in Belleville hospital, alfoull [sic] weak, has gall trouble, & something wrong with eye since last Wed.
