All Fools Day. We washed, was cloudy, we hung it in the basement, sprayed fruit trees. Paid Int. to F.B. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, he went to Waterloo to get oil changed in his Chev; she stayed here, cut Berti striped dress out. Papa set posts this afternoon for his shut, he is making. Eggs are 19¢. Fred Voges of Lords Corner died will be buried Wed. tomorrow afternoon.

Papa got the deed all fixed up, for the land that he bought from Alice Brand for $15.00. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came about 10 o clock & papa went along with them to Okawville to Ben Kuhn’s sale. Raining all afternoon. Mr. Justin Zipfel brought us our baby chicks, $8.50 – 269 $22.65, all nice; he told us that Bill Vogt’s brooder house burned down Thurs morning, 270 chicks & everything; coal oil burner they had..they had just put the chicks in on Wed. night & 2:30 everything was allright, & when they woke up, it was burning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had supper here, came about 5 o’clock; the sale was postponed till Wed; to much rain, there also. So many people sick in bed with bad colds, fever, & headaches; especially the children of the Public School here, its one than the other. Eggs are 18¢ by Eichenseer’s this afternoon.

We cleaned upstairs. We all, went to Pamier’s sale by New Athens, Mrs. Spalts sister; started this morning & big sale, lot things; papa bought $14.55 heifer, went home got the rack & came back, loaded it up, we went along with Uncle Fred’s to Athen’s Gieger’s 2¢ sale; then came back to the sale again, we run out of gas coming home, Hug Probst had to bring 1 gal out, by Alp. Parker’s. The lawn mower sharpener called this evening, but we have ours fixed now. Sold 20 doz. eggs @ 17¢ & 5 hens, 39 lbs. @ 14¢. Cool day.

It is real blue & cloudy in the north, & Boy! did it rain this afternoon & hail, awful weather. We cleaned chick house, set up the brooder stove, made fire in it. Chas Helfrich looked at the hay in the barn, he thought he will take 2 loads. Rob. Laut got sack hay for his rabbits again. Eggs are still 17¢. Leona was by Mrs. Staufbiel, tried on her spring coat, that she is making for her.

Cloudy & colder this morning. Some spring day. Papa went out to Henry’s sowing oats; finished 38 acres; had dinner there. Dyed Bertie’s coat this afternoon navy blue. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, Bertie & her went to the quilting, City Hall Firemen’s quilt; 3 of them, Clara Wagner & O. Lauts & Mrs. Kessler’s & L. Boll & Mrs. Ahrens; lot ladies helping to quilt, day & night. There was a terrible sand storm in southern states, all blowing over this way now, cloudy & hazy; here smoky. Eggs 17¢.

Henry & Albert Cleveland are up sowing oats; today, had dinner here. Papa helped to harrow; finished up today, up here. We washed, ironed; Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up this evening. Sold 17 doz. eggs today for 17¢ doz. Rosalia is sewing Robert a shirt.

It is getting warmer again. Eggs 17½¢ today. We went to Belleville this afternoon, shopping & to church. Papa got felt hat. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up this afternoon.

Making a star quilt out of scraps; Mrs. Phillip Kahmer of Fords Corner is getting buried this afternoon. Pretty cold weather again. Leona said she planted out cabbage plants yesterday & not very nice today for them; We got out sweet potatoes in the hot bed. Miss Lizzie Boll was the lucky one to win the quilt that was raffled at the euchre Tues. night. Joe Griffin got attendance prize. Casper Horshmann living on Barney Kaiser’s farm is awful bad sick at present; We received a letter from Alice, says raining there, flower are blooming, everything looks so nice; we sent her a letter today. Eggs 18¢, we shipped 19 hens, 123 lbs. over to St. Louis with Mertz & got 16½¢ lb; they lost 1 lb. going over, some weighed 7½-9 lbs; surely were & nice fat. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came , we all went to McDermotts, to see Margaret, she sure was laid out nice, pink dress, had so many beautiful flowers & so many cards for masses to be read for her; quite a few people came to the house, it was packed. Mrs. McDermott isn’t so good. Gertie Irose is getting along fine, since she was operated. Margaret – she was so weak of blood, they even took Ruth’s blood, but it didn’t help, they checked, Hubert also, both listed good.

We washed, ironed, awful wind; made little garden. Henry & Albert Cleveland, were here for dinner, sewed oats, rained, after dinner, so they had to quite [sic – quit]. Mr. Stehl butcher of Smithon [sic] stopped here. They Daily Advocate man of Belleville, was here, to sell paper. Comes in on the bus, in the evening now. Mr. Zipfel of Lurlhs [?] Hatchery of Red Bud called over chicken this afternoon, put out 18, we have 106 layers now; Eggs are 19¢ today. Ed. Brand’s birthday.
