I seen in the paper there where 50,000 people attended the American Legion fair at Belleville Sat. & Sun. It is cloudy again this morn, so more raining coming. Papa went to Hy. Armstutz & got the team & finished cutting hay this afternoon. Then him & Rosalia went out to Henry’s & got the mule. There is a dance at Paderborn Church Hall.

We went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here awhile & then went home. They made there Solemn Holy Coummioun [sic – Communion] but the children where to make there private also, but didn’t know it well enough, so it was set of. It is so hot 90 in shade & oats bugs are so bad. Robert Merz & family where here this morn, but he was to late for business. People here from St. Louis bought 17 doz. eggs @ 10¢. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening to stay in Hecker over nite & work in the garden tomorrow. Clifford said the motor cop caught a car by John Braun’s for reckless driving, the cop had a whistle like an ambulance. There was a big parade in Belleville today, Americian [sic] Legion Convention.

Papa & Rosalia went to Belleville to see the Biebel Roofing Co. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had intended coming up this afternoon but it rained. Seen in the paper that there where 1500 people attended the pinic [sic] here Monday & 500 people attended service Sun.

Papa went down to see Hy. Armstutz, this morn, to see if he could get the team & mower, so this afternoon he got it & cut all his hay & cheat [?] of. Henry & Emil where here & got a hog. Mr. Biebel & 3 more guys from Belleville where here & looked at the colt, he would give $65. There where 3 more fellows here, 2 from Jennington Mo. & the other from Cowell’s place & looked at the colts. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where at Monroe City at a sale. Mrs. Wilde. We went out to their place this evening, listened to the radio, dances all over to nite, Bill Sensel’s, Nic Cortner’s barn dance, Weber’s Wedding dance in Dab’s Clubhouse by Smithon [sic], Hy. Weber & Mary Crowk. I seen Arthur Stehl & Anna Herzog license in the paper, 27 & 21. Papa went to Hy. Armstutz & got the team, & mower, & took it back agin [sic] this evening.

We got wash, day, & nice too. Mr. Fix & his neighbor from near Belleville looked at the colts. This afternoon papa went there to look at his stock, they finally got together & made an even trade, our black, the smallest for a 3 yr old horse, he brought it down this evening & lead the other one home. It is a gentle horse, works good. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up. This evening we went along out to Henry’s & papa went over to see George Schilling. We planted 100 cabbage plants this eve.

Today is the Mosbacher & Neff wedding. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary are going to the dance, it is in Neff’s house, he couldn’t get the hall. Henry & Leona came & we went along to the dance with them, the house was packed, danced in 2 rooms, nearly all musiains [sic – musicians] played. Papa & Rosalia went to Belleville & took 24 doz. eggs & old hens & 20¾ lb. springs got 20¢ for 2½ lbs. over. The egg man was here & got 31 lbs. springers got 16¢ for 1½ lbs. over. Papa & Bertille went out to Henry’s this afternoon. Emil was there awhile too. Papa helped Henry work his ground.

A man was here this morning wanted sharpen sisccors [sic – scissors] or knifes, we didn’t get anything done. Papa went to Kleber’s sale by Floraville this afternoon. Edmund Eckert is going to be brought home today from the hospital at Belleville the was way we heard. He is pretty good again, he was home sick. Papa bought a rake Hay for 25¢ & Vic Eichenseer got a binder for 50¢ at the sale. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up to spent the weekend in town. We had supper over by them. Henry was up this afternoon, he got crushing done. George Schilling was here to see papa but he wasn’t home. Lindenberg’s baby was found last Thurs. the 12th, in the woods, dead & a bullet wound on its head, it was nearly all decayed already one arm & leg was gone, a negro found the bundle in woods wrapped the same clothes as when taken from the house Mar. 1.

Uncle Adam is 83 yrs. old today. We planted cabbage & tomatoe [sic] plants out in our truck garden this morning. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s got a load of wheat & took the mule home. We painted our kitchen chairs & table & varnished the floor. Adam Eckerts boy Edmund is awful bad sick, they took him to the hospital yesterday morning & today he got operated on for appendix, they say 4 ins [inches] long. Alphose [?] Parker is bad sick. Mrs. Conrad Rohleder, nee Laura Birkner, Petes daughter, took lysol & was rushed to St. Elizabeth’s hospital where she died this morning 3 o’clock. The funeral will be Monday from the home of Pete Birkner at Belleville to church & cemetery. She took it because her husband is out of work, & she was ill.

Today is Olivia Laut’s birthday. Papa got tankage this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up she went along with us to Belleville. We got weighed Aunt Mary 173. Rosalia 169, Bertille 130; we set our paper off till next winter. It is awful hot this afternoon. We went to church at Belleville this afternoon.
