Papa got crushing done. A man around selling pears 60¢ bu. We went to Belleville. Zippel brought the hog feed that was ordered. We walked up to Mamie’s but she wasn’t at home, then she came down here, & gave us a call; she was by Mrs. Staufenbiel. Odillo has a new chev, traded his old one in, coach, orange weehls [sic] tan body; got it this morning. Ed Parkers have a V8 ford, not new.
Sunday, Sept. 16, 1934
Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed in Hecker over night, had dinner here. She & Rose went to Mrs. Staufenbiel’s to fit on her dress. This afternoon we all went to Ruma, were thousands of people attended the Mission Rally Father Kaiser of Belleville & Fr. Sheridian of China were the speakers. K.C. Band furnished musci [sic], Benediction was held; also a microphone speaker was had to carry the voice far; the grounds were just crowded with people, & had a wonderful day; refreshment’s were sold on grounds. John Myerscough’s youngest daughter Margaret Mary who is attending school there, took us all through the convent; met several girls in there Celia Krehrer, & Isabel Forness. Jonny Kreher’s boy & a Vogt from near Red Bud had a collision, both cars damaged pretty bad, in front of church this morning being Kreher’s fault. A man stopped took 6 doz. eggs at 22¢. Nights are awful cool.

We finished digging potatoes. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon, she went along with us to Belleville, we got new winter hats. Mr. Jake Cole stopped in. Mr. Herman Geodelle of Waterloo died. Miss Adele Crowe gave a surprize [sic] bridal shower for Miss Olga Bozzy who is to wed Mr. John Schauer of St. Joseph Mo. soon, Miss Magaret May won first prize in bunco. We went to Donahue’s free dance this evening, Carlos Entainers [sic], crowd wasnt so hot, but boy the fish was swell. Oak Grove has theres tomorrow nite.

Baked bread & coffee cake. Henry & family came up he plowed. Rob. stayed up, had lunch, supper. Leona came back this eve. & brought the kids up, they stayed here with pap; we went along with them to the carnival at the Country Club, sure beautiful, free dance, musci [sic] by Dixie Blue Boys of Belleville. Mr. Ivo Rapp & Eunice Blackburn, were married at the priest’s house here this evening 5:30. Clem Parker & Ivonne Rapp, the attendants. Oh Boy! wedding on Fri. Al. Rittmeyer sales agent for brusches [sic] was here, left us a sample brush.

Eunice Blackburn’s birthday. Hilda Staufenbiel’s. We washed, ironed. Uncle Fred was here this afternoon, he took Aunt Mary & Lonie out to George Parker’s, to visit Mrs. who is sick. George Wagner & family came over this evening, ate watermelons, we was up at Belleville at a meeting first. Heat is terrible today.

Leona brought Henry up; he had dinner, lunch, supper. Papa & Henry went over to Ed. Meng’s looked at horses. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & papa went down to Mrs. Gruber’s sale on Gregson farm, didn’t buy anything; large crowd, & fair prices. $120. for horses. Papa & Rosalia wen to Belleville this morning. Leona kids came this evening to get Henry. Clifford has a chev. now $25.00. Hugo Probst is repairing his house, the old folks moved down, & young folks up there because it is closer to his garage there.

Billy’s [aka Willis] 1 yr. old. Mr. Rettinghouse buried year ago today. We went to Belleville this morning took 17 3/8 lbs. chicks along 15¢; got new hats 29¢. We went out to the birthday, Geodelle’s, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Grover, were there, cake was served.

Joe Herzog has sale this afternoon, also one in Maeystown. Kouminity [sic] Pinic [sic] in Red Bud, tickets are raffled out. like last year. Henry was here for lunch, he brought the wagon up & we had Armstutz’s, hauled the wheat out. We all went out this afternoon, some were there for lunch & supper, it rained, the machine got there about 4 o’clock, so they threshed, 2 loads wheat & 1 oats. we got 25 bus. from the 2 loads. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary come this evening & we all went to Red Bud pinic [sic], Bertille won 50 lb. flour on little tickets; several others, Mary Braun, Mrs. L. Millman, Percy Starr, Martin Fahey, Wm. Harbaugh got cheese & butter, Percy Roscow won $20 cash; they had a calf & nice prizes. The wrestling match was L. Cowell & boy from Belleville the latter won.

Papa & Rosalia went to Belleville, looked at a horse. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, he went to Waterloo, she stayed here, cut my dress out. Mr. Hill was here collecting telephone dues; our chev. shed door broke & needs repairing.
