Thursday, Nov. 10, 1938

Today is big celebration at church, solemn Pontifical High Mass; 100 yr. church; will be tomorrow but was celebrated today, by Bischoff [sic – Bishop] & 50 priests, had dinner in school hall; for priests & cooks; church was filled. Bert [Bertille] went to mass. Uncle Fred stopped he went to Red Bud, Louis Dehn got 2 doz. eggs 26 [cents]. Papenbergs got an awful lot of wedding presents. musci [sic] furnished by Keim, Rehling & B. Schilling. Canning was here wanted to know were [sic] Uncle Fred lives.

Wednesday, Nov. 9, 1938

Nice day. We went to Leo’s help butcher, also Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & Mrs. Orlet helped. Vic Papenberg & Bessie Parker getting married 9 o’clock this morn. We went to dance at Daabs Club House, Elmer Parker & Cecelia were best, she wore dark blue dress, Bessie white & veil. Henry butchered today also, & we didn’t know it.

Tuesday, Nov. 8, 1938

Election day. Bert [Bertille] washed ironed, patched, scrubed [sic] basement & cleaned smoke house. Henry came, brought his calf hide up for Christ Buehler to take to St. Louis, he stopped here & took it. Jac. Neff came to pay Int. for Uncle Fred. left it here. Pap & Bert [Bertille] went up to vote after dinner. Susie sang song today for Louise Wittenauer by Ethel Staufbenbiel; Susie sings twice a day now. Took turnips out, about 1 bu. 1/2 large. Leo & family came, brought the truck back, going to butcher.

Monday, Nov. 7, 1938

Raining all day & cold this eve. to be 28 tomorrow morn; started furnace fire this morn. Leo came down got truck, to haul his calf’s of [sic – off] tomorrow $10.75 top price. Emil came this afternoon & Jake Neff to get doz. eggs 26 [cents]. Vic Papenberg & Bessie Parker were published for 3rd time yesterday.

Sunday, Nov. 6, 1938

Went to Red Bud, mass was longer from 7:30 till 9:00. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came, pap went along to Donahue’s, turkey supper, & shooting match; they also went to Phil Mueths shooting match, but didn’t win nothing; Clarence Pabst of Belleville was granted a divorce, Sat. from his wife nee -Irene Voges. Geo. Wihelms. Mrs. Mertz brother died in Belleville hospital of pneumonia. Raining this eve.; a little.

Saturday, Nov. 5, 1938

Isn’t so cold after the rain. Bert [Bertille] 24 yr. birthday. Wittenauers brought load corn shocked here today. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary, Henry’s family, Leo & family were here this eve. played cards, had popcorn, lemonade, wine & cake, apples etc.

Friday, Nov. 4, 1938

Cleaned chicken house, put in straw etc. Rained little this morn, & getting colder, still south wind. Waterloo paper didn’t come today. Emil came over awhile till Clara called up, said he should come down there. Celestine Neff got 1 doz. eggs this eve. No school in Hecker, Mrs. Pickett is sick.

Thursday, Nov. 3, 1938

Sawed wood 5 3/4 hrs. Leroy Haudrich had saw Shields & Leo & Uncle Fred helped; they came home for dinner, had chicken, made pumpkin pie this morning.

Wednesday, Nov. 2, 1938

All Souls Day. Went to Red Bud had no mass till 8 o clock; went down for 6 was none, so went to Waterloo – high mass. Stopped at Henry’s & Shields. Geo. Schilling going to saw wood tomorrow for us. Shields is also going to help. Went to Leo’s this afternoon he is going to help & Uncle Fred. They are helping down at Chri. Buehlers today, papering I guess. etc. Henry Bruins have a baby girl born Sun. morn. Uncle & Aunt stopped in.

Tuesday, November 1, 1938

Went to 6 ‘ o clock mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up awhile, went home to go to Belleville. Bill [Klein] came this afternoon & took Bert [Bertille] along to Paderborn church, services & procession out to cemetery. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] were down this eve.; played cards. Republican Speaking at Kammler’s tonite. J. Schmidt speaker. Nobody of here went.
