This morning snow fell & cold, it is to be 15 above zero tonight, the paper says. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon, they went down to Red Bud to Hy. Frischkorn’s sale, but it was postponed they thought until Sat., he was going to call over the lines then, when he would have it. So she helped to quilt this afternoon. They where here for supper. Geo. Sensel postponed his sale until Wednesday. The paper say’s the heaviest snow of this winter fell this morning. At noon, the sun came out it wasn’t just so bad, but tonight is awful cold. We made fire in the furnace again. Pearl Griffin was operated on last Tues. for appendix, & is getting along nicely so far. They haven’t found Lindy’s baby yet, $50,000 ransom is out for them, if they bring the child back.

Papa went to Belleville today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up in the afternoon, he chopped his dead trees off across along the highway. Kammler had a dance this evening, but I don’t think it was very crowded not according to the cars parked in this end. Too many other dances this even. – Chas. Sensel’s, Fred Webers dance.

Papa & Rosalia went out too Henry’s, she helped Leona clean her front room, they were there for lunch & dinner. Papa went to see Uncle Adam is isn’t feeling well, has cold. Katie Klotz was here & wanted to get about 8 settings of white eggs, but we didn’t have none for sale, so she couldn’t get none. Wm. Sensel was here & wanted to see Papa, but he was at Henry’s, so he went there. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this eve, & Rosalia & Bertille went along with them too the dance down at the Brick House, given by the Horse Creek Ramblers. Adm. Gents 25, ladies 15¢. They sure did have a crowd. The Hecker baseball club announced a dance for May 6 music furnished by the Horse Creek Rambler, & they are going to give one again the 13 & Emery’s one on the 16 of May. The town board has meeting at George Wagners to-night. Our 8 little pigs where born Apr. 26 Sun.

Bertille baked molasses cookies, & Rosalia is shelling corn this morning. Papa went out to Henry’s to help him measure for a milk house, he wants to make it in the back porch, they say its allright that way. This afternoon Papa & Henry went to Belleville to get the lumber for it. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening for the euchre & dance given by the Y.P.L. in Kammlers Hall. Bill Herzog & his brother Ray furnished the musci [sic], 10 games in Euchre where played Uncle Fred had 6 points & got a Jar of Honey Aunt Mary had 6, & got a pan & a lid, Bertille had 6 got a potato masher. Rosalia had 3 points. Wm. Sensels the assessor was here & sessed Uncle Fred’s property.

We washed, ironed, patched today. This morning the assessor Wm. Sensel was here, John Reagan came & wanted to know if it was all right for him to throw his chicken manure in our oats field but it was soft in there, so he throwed it in the stubble ground closed by. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was here, Uncle Fred went down to Red Bud & she went to Wm. Birkners, & Louis Birkners, but nobody at home on either place. They where here for lunch. Joe Griffin was around electioneering, today is town election. He & Elmer Kammler running for town mayor. Papa went up & gave him his vote for Joe, & a citizen thicket [ticket]. It is cold again, we covered our tomato plants, because some said, we was gong to have a frost tonight, but we didn’t.

We all went out to Henry’s this morning & took them along, we left about 7 o’clock to go to Frank Dudenhoeffers in St. Louis. We went to St. Thomas Church over there, & then down to the house. We had dinner, then we went over to see Val. Adams a little while, the men played pinochle, Henry, Ed, Jac, Irvin, Val. Then we back again to Gusta’s had lunch & then went home we left about 3:30. We made a short stop at Geodell’s they where going to Henry’s this eve. Philip came out & we rode along with him to Sensel’s barn dance, there sure was a crowd there, quite a few people from Hecker where there. There was a fight at Oak Grove Tues. – night, wedding dance, the McKoneys boys jumped on the McCarthy boys. Gregory was stunned for a while, they had to carry water & throw it on him, his jaw was swollen the next day yet.

Papa & Rosalia went up to Henry the morning to fix [the] fence. There are dances all over tonight. We have an invitation to Ronnenbergs and also have one to Ettlings, Marcella’s birthday. There is one at Chas. Sensel’s barn dance, one at Oak Grove, Renault. It rained a little this evening. Papa, Rosalia & Bertille were at Ettlings this evening. There sure were a lot of people there. Marcella got all kinds of beautiful presents. Those that were there were, Peter Reheis & family, John Reheis & family, Albert Cleveland & family, Robert Laut & family, Perry Klotz & family & Elmer Kammlers wife & Billy, August Blackburn & family, Nick Menths family, Ike Napier & family, George Boll & family. The boys were: Henry Spalt, Clifford Stallebher, Elmer & Clement Parker, Odillo Eichenseer, Henry & Ralph Wiegand, Levi Ganley, Clarence Pabst, Karl Kammler & his girl, & Alfred Kammler & his girl, Ralph Rausch, Kenneth Kemp, Milton Wagner, & a good many others from St. Louis. Cake, Beer, Lemonade were served. We came home at 12:30. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were at Ronnenbergs. There was an awful big crowd there too. Henry said it was crowded at Sensel’s too. There were way many more people at Ettling then what I have mentioned.

Today is Josie Gregson’s birthday. She will be 50 years old. Rosalia & Bertille washed today. There was an inquest at Smithton yesterday afternoon for George Heyl. They pronounced it accident. There was a dance at Gregson’s this evening. Some people from their corner were there. Blackburn and the other bunch were at Sensel’s, there was a dance and birthday there too. We didn’t have no invitation for either one, so we stayed at home. Eggs are only .19¢. Wheat $1.00.
