Fried down meat all day, washed, ironed & patched. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary played cards with us this eve they stayed at Hecker all night. Hill & McCarthy played musci [sic] over at Steve’s where invited over, but didn’t go.
Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1931
Went to 6 mass at Red Bud, then went to Belleville. Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary had dinner here. They bought a radio victrola at Belleville at Lurtz’s for $15 complete set. Hecker was represented at Belleville too & also Paderborn, Evansville.
Friday, Nov. 13, 1931
It rained nearly all night. Uncle Adam come, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, we all went into Belleville to Jenny Kemp’s funeral, they took her from the Gundlach Chapel to St. George’s Episcopal Church, then to the Village cemetery of Hecker, Emil was one of the ballpearber, [sic-pallbearer] only one from around here. It wasn’t a very large funeral.
Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1931
We washed, ironed, patched, had beef soup for dinner. We went out to Henry’s got a load of wheat 13 bu. 25 lbs. 50¢ bu. took it too Waterloo, got our Whippet curtains fixed at Gentsch’s, for $2.50, then we drove out by St. Joe & got 7 roosters weighing 32½ lbs. at 15¢. the name is Valerias. We stopped at Henry’s & brought 2 qts. milk along home. Today was election of Co. Comissioners [sic], Kettler & Edler. Kettler was in Hecker, & Waterloo. Papa got a check from Hempe Bro. $30.00. Mrs. Stauenfbiel was here this afternoon but we weren’t at home, she called us up this eve.

It is cold out today. The fellows that left there truck here yesterday got it again today. I seen in the paper that Ervin Boo & Vera Kropp are married now, he had his one leg taken off. The School children of the Public School is Hecker had apple picking last Sat. they picked 25 bu. one bu for every child & stored them in the School to be aten [sic] this winter. Irvin [?] Reheis was awarded $50 for selling tickets for the Lincoln Teathre [sic- theatre]. The Blackburn School is having a big Hallo’wen party tonight for the children.
Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1931
We all went out to Henry’s today, for dinner, & lunch, he butchered a pig, he returned 17 lbs. to us what he got last summer. The rest of it he is going to take to Waterloo & sell it out this evening. They have a Halloween party in Hecker tonight, the Y.P.L. in Kammler’s hall giving a dance & also one in the new school hall. The Public School had there’s this afternoon. It was a masquerade ball in the new school just for the young ones.
Sunday, Oct. 4, 1931
We went to Waterloo Church this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here awhile. I seen in the paper that Ed Parker’s have a little baby boy born last Sat. Also Elmer Quirin’s have a little boy. Hecker first team won 2 games, one with the All Stars.
Saturday, Oct. 3, 1931
Today, Mrs. Val Fritsche of E. St. Louis is having sale on the Fritsche farm about 2½ mils [sic] from Hecker, where Joe. Herzog now lives. Also Leo Skaer of Millstadt is having sale, he lives on the Julius Stentcel farm, sale to start at 9 o clock. We all went there. Bertille rode along with Uncle Fred. They had the dinner along, we left there about 4 clock, didnt’ get anything, they had so much to sell.
Saturday, Sept. 26, 1931
Wm. Ganey was here & paid part interest $66.00 & still $59.00 due. It turned cold awful sudden today. The St. Augustine’s Church of Hecker, has pinic [sic] today, & Anhuser [sic] Busch from St. Louis is to be there with radio musci [sic] & donkeys. Miss Laurena Mehrman & Orlando Skaer are getting married at Floraville this afternoon, an a dance tonight there. We where all at Waterloo this afternoon & went to confession, we came through Red Bud home, stopped at J. Ducars, they have a team mules for sale.
Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1931
Papa went to Waterloo this morning. He brought a 1 doz. fruit jars along, so far we bought 2 dozens. This afternoon he hauled 2 loads of coal. Leona & kids came up after the oil this afternoon. We all went out to Aunt Mary’s this evening, but she was at Oscar Birkner’s, peeling apples for apple butter tomorrow. Papa went up to Griffins this morning & paid our pew rent $27.00 to Joe, he can give it to the priest. Clarence Wagner started school in Hecker today again, he got homesick at Red Bud, he went there a 1 week, & this week they had to bring him back up here again, he wouldn’t eat no more down there.
