Saturday, March 4, 1933

Today is President Rossevelts [sic] day in Washington. Papa & Rosalia got a load of wood; & stopped in at Henry’s, Cleveland’s Geodell’s, Gus & Rudy’s family where by them last nite. Had an awful heavy white frost this morn. We all went to Schmidts sale by Fults this afternoon, things brought an awful high price, we went through Cahflin [sic] Bridge & Maeystown home, meet Mr. Schilling teacher, came through Burksville etc.

Thursday, March 2, 1933

We cleaned upstairs this afternoon. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s got a load of wheat. Papa went out on business this afternoon. Joe Watchel’s got a dinning [sic] room set delivered to them this morn, from Miller furniture from Belleville; it was 6 chairs, table, rocker, & buffet, rug. It is real warm the past days. Henry got setting eggs from Uncle Dan & Aunt Emma, the other night, & took them in to Geodells, to set, Gus is going to set them for Henry with Henrys incubator. We went out to Uncle Fred’s, this eve, played 6 hand pinochle, & had popcorn, listened to the radio.

We went out to Henry’s butchering today, 1 big hog, we had lunch & dinner, Emil & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary helped too. Today is Gus Geodell’s birthday he is 51 yrs. old.

Friday, July 8, 1932

Rosalia & Bertille & Leona & the kids went to Waterloo this morning we took 3 bus. of potatoes got 60¢ at Connor’s. Rosalia went to dentist McConnell. We stopped at Geodell’s. Gambach’s store is opened now, they are checking & working books, & goods in the store. Elmer Kammler’s barber have a little boy since yesterday, they now have two boys. We went digging potatoes again this afternoon. Fridolin Bersche jeweler at Waterloo & Miss Lucille Lotz of Columbia where married last Sun, afternoon in Columbia, they left for a honeymoon trip to Peoria, & will make there home in Columbia by the bride’s grandmother.

Tuesday, May 10, 1932

We cleaned the chicken house this morning, we have 13 hens hatching tomorrow. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, we all helped them plant corn. Hy. Armstutz was also there. We get no more Belleville paper now. We all went out to Henry’s awhile this evening. Gus. Geodell’s family where also there.

Monday, May 2, 1932

Papa went out to help Henry haul logs, he had lunch, dinner, lunch there. We washed, ironed, clean basement. Robert Laut’s are moving in there house in Hecker today, Phil Braun, Al. Geodells have trucks, & George Henkel, George Boll, are helping, Blackburn’s, Clevelands also.

There where 4 girls & 7 boys made their Solemn Coummioun [sic – Communion] at Red Bud this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner. They went out to Buehler’s this afternoon, Linus Birthday. Robert Launts had a farewell party this evening. We weren’t invited to come. Henry & Leona & Geodell’s family came up this evening, the boys stayed here & rest went over to New Athens to Val. Klube’s, his wife died this morn. but they didn’t get to see her anyway, she was at the unterdating [sic- undertaking] parlor yet. The funeral is Tuesday, Henry is pallbearer. Harry Kammler’s has a dance tonite. Peter Bros. outfit playing

We went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here all day for dinner & supper. Then we all went out to Henry’s to Floyd’s birthday he was 3 yrs old. Cake, Lemonade, ice cream, where served. Geodell’s where out in the afternoon. Henry Lutker & son in law from St. Louis was here, he wants to get an egg route, we sold him 20 doz. Sun; he pays 1¢ above St. Louis No 1. price.

Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1932

We sold 22 doz. eggs at Belleville for $3.44 some 14¢ & 17¢. George Bernius of Smithon is getting buried this afternoon there, also a sale Sieberts too this afternoon. Not such a nice Wedding day for Pearl & Lawrence Matthews. It rained at Belleville but not here. Henry & Leona the kids, came up 4 o clock, the kids stayed all night, we went along with them to Waterloo to Gus Geodell’s then up to Jac. Goedell’s, then out to Foster Pond’s the Wedding dance & an awful big crowd present. His brother & her cousin where best. Irvin Elbrecht have a little boy born today, seen in the paper.

Sunday, Jan. 24, 1932

Went to Red Bud church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner & supper. Josie Keller is spending today & tomorrow in Hecker visiting friends. Aunt Mary went to the mission service this afternoon. Henry & family where here this evening playing 5 hand pinochle. Bert Tomphson was here to look at our pigs. Leona said Eliza Freund & Kruse where published for first time this morn. & Pearl Geodell second & Slyvanus Schroeder last time.
