Ed Parker has poster’s, up for his big new barn dance tonight.  We went out & the crowd that was there, some said 300, & others said 500 people upstairs, it sure was crowded.  People from all over, Evansville, Smithton, Waterloo, St. Louis, from everywhere.  There was a man here today selling fruit again, we send him off.  Papa went out to Henry’s to get a load of posts.  Eggs are still 12¢ yet.

Sunday, May 31, 1931

Papa & Bertille went to Smithton to church this morning, it is nice there, we seen quite a few people that we knowed.  Henry & family where here for dinner.  This evening Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Henry’s family & Bill came, & we all went to the Brick House, the boy’s stayed here with papa.  The Hecker All Stars gave the dance, music from Belleville, & also Uncle Fred.  Adm. was gents 25 ladies 15¢.  Hecker ball team played Evansville today & Hecker won.  Gus Blackburn & Roy Stauenbiel played at a barn dance at Wagner’s, by Red Bud this evening.  There was also a barn dance by Joe Haudrich’s, by Rheinhardt’s musci [sic].

Sunday, April 12, 1931

Papa, Uncle Fred & Saxemeyer from Red Bud went out looking at some farms that were for sale.  Henry & family, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here for dinner & Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary were here for supper.  This afternoon we went over across the street awhile & got some spinach roots for Leona.  This evening Philip came out & Rosalia & Bertille rode along with him down to Evansville & back, for a drive.  There was a dance in Ruma, & a play in Catholic School hall at Red Bud.  There also was a play in Smithton & one in Belleville at St. Mary’s Church.  There the thickets were sold already on Sat. they were all sold out.

Sunday, Feb. 8, 1931

Henry & family & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were all here for dinner today.  Uncle Fred & the kids also had lunch here this morning.  We all went over to see Uncle Fred’s property this afternoon.  Then, Henry & Leona & Aunt Mary went up to church to confession because tomorrow is 13 hour Adoration.  George Wagner is butchering today.  Steve Rennecker is the butcher.  Tonight is a dance at Papenberg’s, but we can’t go on account of church tomorrow.  Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary, Oscar Birkner, Hy. Ronederberg, Jerome Cortner, Clarence Rettinghouse, Ray Armbruster were all down at Evansville last night at a dance & Chicken Supper by Ronenbergs relation, Marie Davis birthday.  Papa got oil changed in the Chev., yesterday at Barthels Garage cost $1.10 12305 miles.  Philip Freund was here this evening.

Saturday, Jan. 3, 1931

Papa got crushing done this morning.  This afternoon Papa & Rosalia went out to the woods & sawed a tree down.  They stopped at Henry’s & brought our big table along back for butchering Monday.  Tonight we all went to Uncle Fred’s & Aunt Mary’s first, Henry Birkner & family were also there & then we all went to Hy. Ronenberg birthday dance.  There was an awful crowd there.  Henry Birkner & Uncle Fred & Roy Stafenbiel furnished music.  Those from here that were there were, Parkers, Pappenbergs, Rittemeyers, Probsts, Reheis, Watchel, Skaer boy played his guitar & sang three songs, one was, The Letter Edged in Black, Will You Let Me Sleep in Your Barn.  It sure was nice.  The Evansville relatives were all there too.

Today we have to fast from eating meat.  Papa went to Evansville & Red Bud this afternoon.  Aunt Mary & Uncle Fred came up this evening.  Aunt Mary, Rosalia & Bertille went up to church to confession.  Mamie Eichenseer came along down with us.  She stayed a little while.

Thursday, June 5, 1930

Today is Confirmation at Evansville & Red Bud.  Ivo Buehler is getting confirmed in Red Bud this afternoon.  Adam Eckert is his sponsor.  Father Grooten stopped here this morning and asked Papa to help work on the new school.  So Papa went up this morning & also this afternoon.  Nick Schaefer, Jos. Schilling and Jack Helfrich are working there.  We sold 26 lbs. springs .32¢ a lb. $8.32 the other day, last Monday.  Rosalia took 2 doz. eggs off and got .17¢ a dozen.  It rained a little this afternoon, but not very much.  This evening Rosalia & Bertille went up town.  There is dairy meeting at the school house & the Y.P.L. have meeting at their church.  Henry came up for the milk meeting.  He was down here a little while before he went.  Ida Kammler was sitting on the porch & we went over a little while.  Billy’s pussy’s are both gone and he can’t find them no more.
