It is rather cold this morn. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henrys to get oats & wheat. This afternoon they took a load over to Chris Buehler’s & got it crushed. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this evening; she cut Bert’s dress out. Uncle Fred trimed [sic] his peach trees & grub some out. The egg man came today & paid us 10½¢ for eggs. Brauns pays 8¢ today. Some of the banks are opened up again some in Belleville, & Waterloo any way we hear.

Papa & Rosalia hauled wood this morning, we cleaned chicken house today. Metzger got there mule today. Henry sold a heifer calf today for $10.00 & his 7 pigs to Kirleis. We went out to Henry’s this evening, Floyd’s 4 yr. birthday, Geodells family, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Bill Freund, cake was served, birthday cake with 4 candles. They say the Waterloo bank aren’t opened yet. Egg man didn’t come, 9 & 11¢.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up here & papa went along with them to Mrs. Louisa Soul’s sale, but didn’t buy anything brought a fair price. They stayed here for supper. Ike Napier come & paid for the hog 450 – $13.90. Ed Scheinder got 43½ doz. eggs for hatching, but only paid $2.20 so far still $2.15 to pay yet, but had no more money. Roy Stauenfbiel brought the crushing down this eve, it wasn’t working, this morning; something was out of order. There was awful large attendance at Saul’s sale. Mrs. Vic Eichenseer, Lucinda, Bud, & Angela & Clarence Wittenauer came this evening, we played pinochle six hand. 2 games.

Papa & Rosalia went out to Henrys got a hog. We set up our brooder stove in the basement & started it a going. It rained all day. The banks are closed all over the state since Sat, till Mar. 8 Wed; the egg man didn’t buy any of our eggs today, he had to many, price came down, 9¢ today, he took 10 doz. of Aunt Marys here. Ed Schender wants our eggs for hatching he wants 500. Henry got a card sent from Illmo Hatchery in East St. Louis, that chicks will be $4.55 per 100 tomorrow only.

We washed, ironed. Rosalia took Papa out to Henry’s, & from there he went to the woods, to all wood together. Rosalia came home helped wash, & then took the dinner along out, & helped papa finished up. George Wagner’s are butchering today got the hog from Chas. Wagner. Lines 12 & 2 are working on the line, stretching wire etc. rather it is Line 2 now. Mrs. Ella Slateheber & Cleta moved out to Ed Mengs, Sat. they are going to live there now, & Cleta is going to go back & forth on the bus to work, she is secretary to Lindauer’s at Belleville, Ella is out of work, she wanted to rent Uncle Fred’s House in town, but they won’t rent it. Eggs are 11½¢. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up here this evening. Rosalia & Bertille went along to Paderborn Euchre, boy! what a time! Uncle Fred had 8 points got dress goods, Rosalia 6 points got apron,Bertille 7 points got a rug. Aunt Mary didn’t win any thing; they had a real nice crowd; some of 5’s got prizes, they had a lot of them, but not such very nice ones. The quilt was won by Phil Braun Hecker, Ill. They had a dance after 12 games euchre, musci [sic] furnished by Rhinhardt & Skaer Bros.

Bertille mailed a letter this morning. It is sure a nice day. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s, they had intended to go in the woods, but Emil needed help in the afternoon to saw wood so papa helped him they had dinner at Henry’s. Eggs are 11¢ today. There was a lady around selling washing powder & soap for 75¢. Leona & Rosa baked lot cakes, expecting, Don Geodelle & George’s family, Jake Friedrich’s & Mon & pap, to come this evening.

We washed, ironed, it is a beautiful day, warm. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up here got his checks cashed & then went to Belleville to get radio tubs. Eggs are 10½¢; in the store about 8¢. Papa & Rosalia took load of wheat to Waterloo, 15 bu. 20 lbs. 38¢ bu. Bertille stayed at Henry’s, helped wash this afternoon. Rosalia & Bertille went up to Mamie’s this evening; Wagners called them up & invited them to the wedding tomorrow; but they ain’t going.

Jake Neff & Paul got a hog here this morn. 268 lbs. at $3.50. $9.35. Papa hauled wood & work in woods. Albert Monike was here yesterday & wanted a hog, but had none to sell. Clarence Wagner was here selling chances on an Infant Set of hood, boots & mitts, to be raffled out nite of euchre next Wed. 5¢ chances we took one. Eggs are 11½¢ today.

Papa & Rosalia cleaned chicken houses. Bertille washed, we quilt this afternoon, we got 11½ for eggs today. Josie Keller is 43 yrs. old today. Bertille wrote a letter to Creses tonite. Walter Wittenauers have a little baby since Sat. nite, Cecilia Coop is working there.

We were quilting nearly all day. Chas. Jung wanted our eggs, & wanted to pay 1¢ over No 1. Price, till June, he has a contract with a fellow in St. Louis. It pays 14¢ today, we didn’t sell them to him, our egg man paid 14 today, we had 13½ dozs. Alois Havey came here & wanted to see if it was alright to get his hog, so he came back this afternoon again, & then papa hauled it out to his place for him for $1.00, the hog weighed 260 lbs. at $3.50 $9.10, they borrowed the box from Eichenseers. Mrs. Cecil Budde was buried this morning at the Catholic Cemetery here, Dashmer’s ambulance passed through about 9’o clock, if they took her to church we don’t know, there was no mass here for her no how, lot of flowers where had, 5 cars; the paper said strictly private, so we didn’t go, only relatives where there, they say the bullet passed cleared through her head. It isn’t so cold today.
