Henry & Emil came up, sewing wheat, had dinner & lunch. Mr. Mehrmann get 6 doz. eggs 21¢, store pays 20½¢.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile had lunch. Barry May has shooting match this afternoon. The Hecker Baseball team has a dance at Manier’s tonite, Jolly Six Osc. of Red Bud, pretty fair crowd attended. We stayed home all day; had beef soup dinner. Mr. Joe Hilpert & family stopped a little while, he bought 2 doz. eggs; they were down at Sparta, he helped to build the CCC camps there. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, too take in Maniers dance; outside. Papa & Uncle Fred went out to Henry’s. Pete Birkner looked at the house, he said he would furnish everything & plastered it for $30.00, papa thought that was rather much, so he won’t let him fix it. We went to Oak Grove to a dance, musci [sic] by Chris Dorn’s Orc. Adm. 25¢; nice crowd & good time. James McCaffery 68 of Red Bud died, funeral tomorrow, 9 o’clock by Rev. Stern. Mr. Emil Frick brother of Mrs. Willie Gregson died, will be buried tomorrow afternoon at St. Louis.

Dug sweet potatoes, they are right nice. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up. Clara Wagner came awhile; got eggs for Mehrmann; he came last night & we were all in bed here.
Sunday, Sept. 16, 1934
Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed in Hecker over night, had dinner here. She & Rose went to Mrs. Staufenbiel’s to fit on her dress. This afternoon we all went to Ruma, were thousands of people attended the Mission Rally Father Kaiser of Belleville & Fr. Sheridian of China were the speakers. K.C. Band furnished musci [sic], Benediction was held; also a microphone speaker was had to carry the voice far; the grounds were just crowded with people, & had a wonderful day; refreshment’s were sold on grounds. John Myerscough’s youngest daughter Margaret Mary who is attending school there, took us all through the convent; met several girls in there Celia Krehrer, & Isabel Forness. Jonny Kreher’s boy & a Vogt from near Red Bud had a collision, both cars damaged pretty bad, in front of church this morning being Kreher’s fault. A man stopped took 6 doz. eggs at 22¢. Nights are awful cool.

Ironed, cleaned bedrooms. Papa made a small flower table. Emil stop on his way to L. Gregson’s; brought a letter here for us, that was in there mail. Mehrmann got eggs, 21¢ a doz. It rained all day again, all week so far day & nite.
Sunday, Sept. 2, 1934
Went to church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & papa went home to get some of there Sun. clothes, to go to the pinic [sic] today; they had dinner here, & also Josie Keller came just in time for dinner; she took eggs along & 11 lb. ham 20¢ lb. Berti rode with her, & we all went to Waterloo homecoming, it rained all morning, then sunshine, the parade was beautiful. Josie left right after the parade for St. Louis, we stayed till evening; Rosalia took a ride in the Whip, went she got out she fell & got her dress all full with oil, she put her coat on there.

Otto Rahn of near Red Bud have a baby girl; also Dr. Pautler have a baby 9½ [lb] boy Paul. The morning’s & evenings are rather cool. Mrs. Chas Fleckenstein has a sale today. Papa & Berti went, got the drill for 50¢ brought it along home, binder $1.40 & the wagon $32; & corn plants $26; highest things sold; to some one from Baldwin; the binder is still out yet, rather fair crowd, Grossman auctioner, Lawrence Weigand clerk. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came awhile from the sale. Monroe Feurer was here in the morning counting our hogs. 15 pigs 1 sow, checked up the papers, see if everything was correct. A man here wanted buy old gold; one here selling washing machines. Levi Gregson bought the automobile at the sale; one just like his, tire all flat, & no battery in it for $11.50. Emil pulled it home for him, behind his car. Gus Klotz came & borrowed our lime dust spreader. Mehrman got 8 doz eggs 21¢ he papa, also Metz.

It rained nearly all night & this morning. We went to Mrs. Powderely’s sale this afternoon, Roscow & McBride of Red Bud, rode along & helped push, wasn’t a very big sale; but things brought fair price. Mrs. Mehrmann & Clara were over & got 5 doz. eggs 16¢. Mrs. Rennecker was here this morning.
Saturday, Aug. 11, 1934
Cooler this morning very likely it rained some place. Miss Josie Keller came out from St. Louis, got 16. chicks .15¢, & eggs at 16¢. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, all had chicken dinner here, they went back again. Josie is going on a boat trip Mon. People around selling peaches $1.75 bus. we didn’t buy any. We went to Donahue’s free dance, musci [sic] by Southern Club Entainers [sic], Irene Reheis.
