Cold. We went to mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stayed awhile; went home; came back again this eve; played 3 games pinochle.

Pap got crushing done. He went to Grosomann’s sale by Smithton & Bert [Bertille] went along with Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary to a sale at Belleville, mostly old & antique things; bought some fresh liver saussage [sic] from Schwaegels; sure is good 23¢ lb. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came down, played, 2 games pinochle; popcorn etc.
Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1937
Washed. Pap hauled load wood in basement. Bert [Bertille went to Lauts quilting this afternoon, wedding ring. had lunch there. Pirre was over this morn & told me about it. Boul from Belleville was here, looking for fat hog, ours sold. Emil came over this eve; till Grover Cleveland called him away, him & Albert & Kenneth Kemp came up to have a solo game with him.

Went to mass. Jake Neff came to see Uncle Fred. We went to Smithton to see Stehl & Nic Schaefer, came out on oil road stopped in at Leo’s awhile; came home. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came looked at our horse, then we all went to Uncle Fred’s for supper chicken, & played 5 card pinochle, had popcorn, nuts & refreshments; looked at picture.

Beautiful getting colder. Bert’s [Bertille] 23 birthday. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary went to Red Bud to Buehler’s this afternoon & junk pile. Mrs. L. Fogassey & relatives, were visitors in town here, last Sun. Oliver & Cecelia & Mrs. Pour & Carrie Lorberg & Agnes Gregson were visiting at Iowa several weeks ago; from Fri. until Mon. Ben Schilling bought 126 acres of land from Emil Schilling & wife transfer in Waterloo paper. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary had supper here. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came this eve. played 5 & 6 hand pinochle, refreshments & cake. Tolin was here on business; trying to sell a mare to pap.
Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1937
Washed, ironed, scrubbed basement. Pap went out all day on business trip. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came, he went to Public School had auction sale – toilets etc.; he bought the 2 for $3.55 cheap. they have new ones in down there now; sold the old one; 8 oclock sale. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came was going to go to A. [Aunt] Mary’s, but they were here, so we played 5 hand pinochle. Kettler won county commissioner. Weigand went down salt lake, he won in the precincts around here, but no where else. Olive Laut came, got ½ bu. turnips.

Beautiful day again. Went to mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stayed awhile; Harry Wittenauer came on business. Henry & family came had supper here this afternoon. We went to Orlet’s, went along with them to Paderborn to closing of 13 hr. Devotion & went back again & played cards. Fr. Brandmeyer made good sermon.

Sure some nice weather. to warm. Pap went out in woods, hauled home some butchering wood. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came up this morning, had dinner here; fixing pumps etc. Bert [Bertille] fixed curtains. Emil moved in this afternoon, Joe & Levi Gregson helping. Mehrmann got 8 doz. eggs @ 25¢. took bu. turnips along again. Schmidt brought egg mash down, & settled the lard, we sold 6 gals. The Catholics have euchre in Red Bud tonite. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary had 10 got house slippers & U. [Uncle] Fred – 11 – dress goods; not much of a crowd, Seifert got quilt that was raffled; prizes were all seperated. [sic]
Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1937
Beautiful day. Pap sewed timothy seed in truck patch. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up this afternoon, also Emil was up. They came this eve. again & Bert [Bertille] went along to Paderborn to euchre, & dance. Bert got water pitcher had 8-12 games. Uncle & A. [Aunt] got nothing had 4 points each. Rheinhardts Hossier Hot Shots furnished musci [sic] for dance.

Raining this morn. again a little, getting colder. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came this eve. brought us apples & Mail Order; paps shoes everything allright, shoes a little big. The Ladies Aid have euchre at Kammler’s Hall tonite, we didn’t go; we played pinochle, 3 games.
