Raining all morn, & heavy, we went to Red Bud mass, hospital priest, Oberlinkels said mass, Fr. Stern is in hospital suffering with nervous breakdown. Rain & mud make it bad for Quathamaner’s funeral this afternoon; he was about 45 yrs; has been ailing for quiet awhile. The Paderborn children are to make there solemn Coumioun [sic – Communion] this morn; tomorrow afternoon get confirmed. We are invited out to Geo. Berniers for supper this eve. We went out had supper, played cards, Alois Roth, was also there Rheinhardt didn’t come, to muddy; 2 of Berniers girls making solemn coumnioun [sic] & getting confirmed; bad morn. rain. Bert gave Theresa a dress.

Cooked kettle soap, sprayed fruit trees & brooder house. Raining April showers; went out to Uncle Fred’s, for dinner & supper. Josie Keller cam also, we played cards this afternoon, came up here this eve; awhile, she also went to see Liz Boll & the Nuns Sisters; went home at 8:30. Eggs 21¢.

Bert started cleaning house, 2 rooms upstairs. Pap got load wood in basement, with the mule, works good. Went out on business this afternoon to Rocher. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Bert went to the euchre in school hall won nothing; had 7 points & a quilt attendance prize to Joe Mauer & lotto prize to John Griffin pretty nice crowd, but not as long as others times. Rob. Laut was here looked for potatoe [sic] patch, going to plant a patch here.

Easter. Henry & family & Leo & Rose & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were all here dinner & supper. Men folks played cards. Cool today. Lot people wearing there spring suits & outfits. Krupp of Millsdat [sic] was here looked at horses. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came back this eve. Bert went along to Floraville to dance at Keim’s pretty large crowd music by Waterloo Wild cats; not so good. Schlotmann of Red Bud a baby boy, on Mar. 18; all doing well so they say.

Pap got crushing done. This afternoon went out on business. We went to Rob. Lauts this eve. played cards. Leo & Rose came this morn. pap went along looked at cows, Krupp’s & Grassmanns; but didn’t suit so far. Lent is over at noon today.

Leona came & Rose helped quilt all day. Pap & Leo & Jake all went to Todds sale on Mrs. Pete Schillings place things bought nice price, large crowd. Henry & boys came this eve. for supper, we played card this eve. Uncle Fred is sick bad cold.

Pap went up town to deliver a message with Ivo Buehler to Rose; We went up there this eve. sugar cured there meat, had supper played cards. Fr. came out yet at 9 o clock looking for Isd; he is to start working tomorrow in a furniture Jameison’s at E. St. Louis; he played couple games with us also. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came; Bert went along to Waterloo and business with him, she quilted here all afternoon. Renneckers gave one in to for church, had quilting today & nite. Frische came got oats some of them.

Went to Red Bud mass; Aunt Mary came from church had dinner here; Uncle Fred stayed at L. Birkners all day. She went there this afternoon. We went out to Henrys. Bert stayed there & pap went with Henry to Waterloo along with, Burckhardt to Maeystown, to look at cows, so far they didn’t make a trade. Leo & Rose came this eve.; we played pinochle, 3 games.
Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1937
Bert washed, ironed. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came they had dinner & supper here, him & pop went to Waterloo on business. Uncle Fred & Aunt went to see Louis Birkner this afternoon; he is pretty sick, has flu, fever. Henry & Leona went to Belleville, took calf in got 9½ – they are 10½ on the radio. Billy [aka Willis] stayed here, came back all had dinner here. Some fellows here from Red Bud looked at horses. We all went to euchre in School hall tonite, we got nothing. Uncle got picture of a bird, & A. Mary a lamp; big crowd, from all over Waterloo, Red Bud, Athens, Paderborn; nice evening, cold. Mrs. Hepp died at Wm Wiegands, her daughter; will buried about Sat. at Round Prairie; she was pretty old to.
Friday, Feb. 5, 1937
Bert cleaned, pap went to Red Bud to see Hartmann. This afternoon hauled a load wood in basement. Mr. Davies was here yesterday, wanted to trade; he took 2 doz. eggs along 19¢. Seen in Times that Joe Freund had auto accident last Sun. morn, near Booster Station, says he was crowded of the slab, car turned over landing on radiator, & quite a bit damage to the car, but he only has a few scratches. Transfer of Owen J. Fahey & wife to Ed. Fahey & then again Ed. Fahey to Amie, his mother. Tipton presents “Taming of Tuffy” tonite there. Leo & Rosalia & Jake came this eve. played pinochle about 6 games.
