Rosalia & Bertille went out to Aunt Mary’s, had lunch, dinner, lunch, sewed Aunt Mary a dress. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening, they got a check from Dugans & cashed it now, it says insufficient funds, but they can’t locate Caldwell. Rosalia was by Mrs. Rennecker for awhile. Canned 2 qts. tomatoes.

Rosalia & Bertille went out washing at Henry’s, cleaned house & canned tomatoes. Mr. Hill was here gathering news, George Wagner came & got himself a mess roasting ears.

Schiders putting up hay. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up, she helped clean dishes & things at the school house for pinic [sic] next Sat. In Ruma there is a big pinic today, mass was said out in the woods; lot of cars & priest went down this morning. There was a man here from Kansas trying to sell dry goods, shirts 19¢, etc, he brought some of his dress goods in & showed it to us, $1.95 for 3½ yds, we didn’t buy none, & papa & Uncle Fred wanted to buy sheets, he was so mad, said he had no more time to talk had to hurry & get out so they never got no shirts either; Boy! was he mad. I say he was. Canned 2 qts tomatoes, we have 111 qts now. It rained a little.

Papa took Rosalia as far as the hills & Henry met her there. Canned 2 qts greengages. Papa & Rob culling manure. Mr. Leo Wittenauer & Miss Katherine Daley of St. Louis where married there last Wed. Aug. 2. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, she brought some more greengages, so now we have 13 qts; they where here for lunch. Papa went down to Geo. Lorberg’s sale with Osie Neff; he sold dairy cows, 3 of them, higest [sic] $55 the rest where bought back, & Bruns bought engine, Hinkel crusher & belt; it was a very large crowd, papa said. Mr. Ed Schinder was here, started cutting the hay for second time. Aunt Mary helped to cut Roberts shirt out, & sewed it.

Canned 2 qts. tomatoes. Willie Geodell & papa went out to Uncle Fred’s looked at the horses; didn’t buy yet though. It rained a little this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, he went out to get Rosalia at the Hill’s; then we all went down to Red Bud to the church pinic [sic], had our supper.

Canned 8 qt. corn, took just ½ bu. Clara Wagner was here. The road workers started working in town today. Chas. Jung was here bought 27 lb. springs 9¢ lb. A little baby boy was born at Henry’s this evening at 7 o clock, 10 lbs. Dr. Werth’s & Mrs. Geodelle came there.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner, lunch. It is rather warm again today. We went early to church, had a blow out coming home close to Chas Helfrichs, changed tires & came on. Fred Papenberg got a new chev & Oscar Birkners a used Ford, all close cars. There must be some thieves around Hecker, Hugo Probst got $10 stolen, Wagners got all the ripe & green plums stolen. Lester Gregson moved from the Gambach place to his own that he bought on East Main St. & Mr. & Mrs. Willie Gregson moved in Gambach property. We had our first roasting ears corn for dinner. The pallbearers from Aunt Lizzie where, Emil Brand, Ben Schilling, Hy Eichelman, Edwin & Willie Reheis, Fred Wiegand. The Heyl’s relatives have basket pinic [sic] at the Round Prairie Park, in honor of Mrs. Kessler from Alba. The threshing crew of Oscar Klotz’s have chicken bouilion, at Sam Krehers woods. It is in the paper that Lavern Koerber 23 & Irene Neff 21 where married at Red Bud by Rev. Stern in Catholic parsonage, Mary Havey & Paul Neff where attendats; last Wed. Roller skates & bicycle riding is the latest in Hecker at present. Mr. Rettinhouse is very bad expecting to live only couple days. We have 2 qts tomatoes canned so far, Mrs. John Reheis has 28 qts. & ain’t near finished yet.

It is cloudy & raining this morn. again. We made little garden, planted beans, lettuce. Papa & Rosalia went out to Uncle Freds got the mule again. canned 2 qts plum & cooked jelly. The lady delivered the pottery what we ordered the other day for $1.35, it looks alright. Papa is working corn with the mule & Uncle Freds mare. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up this afternoon, for lunch & supper, he helped went down with his car to Joe Gregsons & got the rest of wheat.

We went out picking dew berries, got 8 gals. gave Leona 4 Aunt Mary one; we where at Uncle Freds for dinner, went over to get some cherries; she has 22 qts. so far. Henry & family where up & got the mule this morning. Biebels where here this afternoon. Henry started in cutting wheat this afternoon; we cleaned the berries, & caned 4 qts. cold packed, & made 16 glasses jelley. Clara Wagner & kids came over this evening; she wants to buy some soap grease from us. eggs still 7¢ yet. Victor Braun was down & brought Ins. policy on our house; it is $24.74 this time, raised since last year, papa him.

We canned 4 pints peas, & Aunt Mary 3 pints. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for lunch, dinner, lunch sewing dresses for her & Rosalia. Papa went down to Armstutz’s got there drag & rolled the corn patch.
