Still no rain & hot. Papa buried over 200 fish this morn. Most threshing machines finished yesterday, Schilling’s & Frischkorns did. Clifford Stahleheber & family is here at Meng’s, there all nite, the baby is sick had 106 fever yesterday eve; the Dr. Eckert was over several times, Clifford goes up & down noisy as ever. Bert went to town, & Clara Wagner said baby died at 4:30, she was there with it all nite, till it died; Meng Undertaker from Freeburg has charge of the funeral which will be tomorrow afternoon from Ment’s to Hecker cemetery, Rev. Hosto coming to the house, it was just 4 mons. old, had 2 teeth, & the heat was the cause of the death, Peggy Jean is its name. Papa buried 504 fish that died all today, altogether we buried 534 terrible how they lay around dead. Cooler this evening & little rain, not hardly enough to settle the dust. We went over to Meng’s to see the baby, looks awful cute, laid out so pretty, hands folded; so nice, quite a few came & went. Mrs. Joe Schilling is pretty sick again so they say.

Pap & Rose went after our heifer that got out, in Braun’s field. We went to Belleville this afternoon to church. Hot, it is 105 degree’s here. Philip Kahmer of Lords Corner shot himself this morn, buried Mon. afternoon. Mrs. Stella Wiskamp nee Miller died, to be buried Mon. she was in the hospital 3 mons; went pap was there. we went to see her.

Still hot. 90. Stookey says at St. Louis; cloudy but so far hasn’t rain, radio says rain, & cooler today. Mrs. Randolph Parrot is being buried at Red Bud this morning at 9’o clock; Omer’s aunt. We went out to Henry’s had dinner, they were going to thresher, but it started raining at 9:30, & Levi Ganley didn’t get finished. Boy! It sure was a nice rain. We had a few chicks soaked, made fire & brought them by the stove, & they were soon alright again, 1 dead.

Went to early mass. Mrs. Alice Parrot died this morn. will be buried Tues. morn. at Red Bud, nee Murphy. Floyd Pabst has a free birthday dance at Kammler’s tonite, musci [sic] by Webers, all free tonite, musci [sic] by Carle’s Orch., a free dance at Paderborn. We went to Donahue’s first then to Hecker, good crowd both places. We went to Uncle Fred’s & Aunt Mary’s had dinner & supper there, they came up here this evening went to Pabsts dance. Awful hot.

It surely was hot yesterday 104 highest at 4 P.M. We are having chicken dinner. Mrs. Gertie Irose 44 yrs. old is being buried at Chester Ill. this morn. 9 o’clock mass by Fr. Tecklenburg of Evansville, for Fr. Lemen of Chester left for Nebraska. Seen in Messenger Fr. Freund is to be assistant at Muryphsboro [sic] for 6 weeks; at present he is at Waterloo. Clarence Heberer of Mascoutaha [sic] have a baby boy born on June 11 nee Marie Fults, Bertie’s 2nd yr. school teacher.

We all went out to Henry’s again all day came home for supper. Rose took the boys in to Waterloo to instructions. The Bonus Bonds are being paid out now. Mrs. Martin Gertie Irone McDermott died will be buried Sat. morn. at Chester, they telephoned left us know; the girls are all dead now, she has to [sic – two] children, girl & boy; her husband is insane. Mrs. Renneker was here, told us that McDermott telephoned to us to tell us.

We washed, ironed. Henry & family came, cutting wheat, Leona on the binder, pap shacking, had lunches, dinner & supper. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up this evening. Mrs. Staufenbiel came to see Aunt Mary. Mrs. Frances Benedick 92 yres. old of Red Bud died, will be buried Wed. Red Bud church & Freeburg cemetery.

We clipped old hens wings. Aunt Mary shoes from Chicago Mail Or. & were to small had to send them back today. We had beef soup dinner. We ate 3 springs already, sure good, we got 111 old hens. There is Church pinic [sic] at Dupo today, were we got chances to win a V8 Ford; but I guess we won’t win anyway. Mr. Geo. Homringhausen gets buried this afternoon. Rose & Bert went to the funeral, down to Red Bud only to Dashner’s, he looks natural awful large funeral, Pall Bearers were, 4 fellows of Waterloo, J. Schmidt, L. Zimmer, Metzer, Friederich, Schuette & guy of Red Bud; Rev. Brink had the services at the undertaker parlor, & also at Round Prairie Church & Cemetery; he was 55 yrs. old, had a copper coffin & vault. This evening there was some fellows ran around our hours, one was H. Davis of Belleville, he should of brought a boy along, that he picked up on the road, & kid got away from him, Elmer Kammler came here, he had the kids shoes, what he dropped, in alalfa [sic] field.

Cleaned chicken house. Rose & Bert went to Waterloo took wheat in 85¢ we got. Leona isn’t feeling so well, went to E. St. Louis this morn. to Dr. Mr. Weber of Red Bud looked at the horse, & bought it for $25.00, going to get it tomorrow. Mr. Geo. Hominghausen died last nite at the hospital, sick about 1 week, had pneummia [sic]; will be buried from Dashner’s parlor to St. Marcus Church & cemetery at Round Prairie.

Nice day. Porter Braun Chev. sales agent was here and pap went along to Uncle Freds; Wm. C. Voges was here wanted to buy oats but said 40¢ bu. was to much. Austin McDermott, comitteman [sic] on the A.A.A. project was here yesterday evening; getting the people to sign. Pap & Uncle Fred went to Belleville then to New Athens, Chev. Dealers; & we Aunt Mary went out to Henry’s to see Floyd he is sitting up now; drawing pictures. We went to Oak Grove tonite to J. Cody’s farewell dance, free, big crowd present; he is going to start farming on his place again & Joseph of Bursksville is coming at Oak Grove, going to have opening dance May 10, they say. Chas. Guebert south of Hecker, died this morn; blood poisoining [sic], just since Easter Sun. will be buried Tues. afternoon, Round Prairie Cemetery, he was middle aged.
