Saturday, Feb. 27, 1932

Bert Thompson was here & looked at our sows again. Papa got crushing done this morning, this afternoon he went to the woods to mark the trees what Ettling should take for posts & then he went down below Waterloo to a sale, bought 45¢ iron & boxes, single trees & such like. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here & then they went to visit Mike Armstutz’s. They stayed up in Hecker.

Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1932

We washed this morn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was here for dinner, she helped us put our quilt in the frame & helped work on it this afternoon. Papa & Uncle Fred went out to stake Ettling’s road off. Elmer Matzenbacher was here & brought our clover seed, $9.00. Louis Armstutz was here awhile. We went to Red Bud to lenten service this evening.

Friday, Jan. 29, 1932

Vic Eichenseer was here & delivered some articles, flour etc. Mr. & Mrs. Louis Armstrutz where here this evening, playing 5 hand pinochle, Bertille had 1500 spade. The nurse was at the Paroachial  [sic] School & sent John Krehers, Nic Schaefers & Will Braun’s, children home because they had scarlet fever & also quarrantined [sic] them. Melburn Miller got pulled in for making whiskey & beer.

Thursday, Jan. 28, 1932

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner here. He went down to Red Bud to get medicine, is kind on a sick list. Then he went to Mike Armstutz’s. A Lady was here & wanted eggs. We sewed cabbage seed today. Mrs. Joe Wacthel & Angela Eichenseer where here & the little boy Delmar. The Freeburg banker Mr. Hamil shot himself this morn. at 7:45 the paper says, the bank was in good standing but there was lot of talk & that made it worse for him.

Monday, Jan. 11, 1932

We butchered 2 hogs today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & family where here helping, had lunch, dinner, supper. We grind the sausage & beef through with Eichenseer’s grinder & little gasoline engine finished in about ½ hr. had a little bad luck to start with. George Wagner was here & Hy. Armstutz a little while.

Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1932

We went up to Belleville & sold 30 doz. eggs 23¢ & 2 for 45¢ sold all. Tonight is telephone meeting at Deueker’s. We all went. The members weren’t all present. Henry & family came up, played pinochle, they came here first & we weren’t at home, so they thought maybe we was by Louis Armstutz so they drove down a piece & turned around in front of Elmer Kammler house & got stuck, papa took the Whippet down & put the chains on & pulled him out. George Wagner & Steve, Louis Armstutz, Philip Jatho helped him.

Monday, Dec. 21, 1931

Henry & family, Emil, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where all here butchering today, had dinner & lunch. Hy. Armstutz & Steve where here awhile too. We killed 2 pigs.

Thursday, Dec. 10, 1931

We went to Belleville sold 12 doz. eggs @ 30¢ then brought there radio along out, we where there for dinner. Jim Beese & wife, John Breugtiam & wife, Fritz Armstutz where also there, fixed the radio up, they played cards in the afternoon.

Monday, Nov. 23, 1931

We washed. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up. This eve, we & them went to Louis Armstutz’s, listened to the radio & played cards. Eggs are 30¢. John Braun brought a sow here.

Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1931

It is raining this morn.  Henry & family was here & brought the little meat grinder along, they brought a calf up to ship with Eichenseer.  We washed, ironed & patched today.  There where 4 men going around today selling a book “Delinator” for 7¢ mo. & receive a cook book or a dress making book.  We didn’t take it.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up to pump the water out of the cellar this afternoon.  Papa got a Int. check from Hempe, part of it $40.00 pay the rest next week.  Louis Armstutz helped out in “Staggy” Helfrich’s barber shop a few days, “Staggy” has a sore finger.  We went out to Uncle Fred’s & had a pinochle game.  Papa & Aunt Mary against Uncle Fred & Rosalia & Bertille in favor of Pap & Aunt Mary 2 games.  We ate Watermelons, there a 35 lb. one.
