Went to Waterloo to early mass, went to see Leona, she sits up a little now. We went out to Uncle Freds, had dinner, & supper, Aunt Mary’s birthday, 59 yrs; Josie Keller didn’t come out. There is a free double birthday dance at Pautlers tonite; Jake Reheis had a back set on mumps, is very ill, had 105 fever. Awful cold tonite; Mrs. J Harsey Sr. died at the Red Bud Hospital.

Hauptman, killer of Lindberg’s baby was to be put in electric chair today, but now has 30 more das [sic] radio said. Pap got load wood for basement. Cloudy today, east wind. pap got stuck going to the wood pile, & Jac Ganley pulled him put, he didn’t get no wood; he gave him 25¢. Mehrmann came got the eggs – 5 doz. 21¢. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came got there saussage [sic] & grease. Rose & Berti went to Waterloo, got Rose shoes fixed & went to Geodells to see Leona for hour; she is pretty good but can’t walk very good yet. Authur Mechler who worked in Jung’s store, is not employed at Philips gas station north R.3 highway. Vicint Heck have a baby boy, now has 4 children. Mrs Matt Stahlmann died of a Auto accident Christmas eve, was buried this week. Mrs Rob. Mertz is recovering slowly, was operated at St. Mary Hospital, some one gave pt. blood to her. Mr Geodelle is laid up with lumbago; Ray has swollen cheeks.

Cleaned chicken house. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here all day, had dinner, he took wheat to Waterloo got 98¢. Pap & him went to see Armbruster’s at Paderborn, to buy hogs, there’s were all sold; so then they went to Red Bud to Burdgorfs bought 2 ours 205 lbs. @ 10¢; brought them along. Klein’s bros. came bought sow & pigs $60.00. Pap & Uncle went out to Henry’s sharpened butcher knifes & get things, tools. Alois Havey came, pap paid him, $6.00 for repair chimney, guttering, spouts. The foundry man at Belleville ain’t working yet. Loyd Pabst & Al Voges brought load corn yesterday. Lester Bruns have a baby girl born last Thurs. Jan 9. Mrs Pour is maid. We went to Red Bud Mon. nite to see the purina show, Hidden Harvest, sure good, about 500 people attended at City Hall Mr. Luhr, Zizfel, managers. 3 attendance prizes were given, pap won 1st. 25 baby chicks any kind, H. Hess 2nd 25 lbs. startina, 3rd Rusel Lee feeder chick.

We washed, ironed, beautiful day. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, he went to Waterloo with wheat $1.02 bu. We put quilt in frame, Star Diamonds. Stehl of Smithon [sic], looked at our stock. Leona is still the same, Uncle stopped there this morn.

Rose went out to Henry’s again this morning. The CCC Camp at Waterloo has to leave tomorrow, going to Washington. Henry went over to E. St. Louis, brought Leona along home to Geodelle’s; she can’t walk yet, hospital bill was $16.50. for 4 days. Rose & Bert went out to Henry’s this evening, he & boy’s came for supper, they they all went in to Waterloo to see mamma [Leona – ed.], stayed there all night.
Monday, Jan. 6, 1936
Went out to Henry’s, took the boys along to school, butchered at Henry’s, at dinner time they called from Waterloo & said they have to take Leona to the hospital, took her over this afternoon at 1:30 so he left right away. Emil & Albert came helped finished, so we did all there feeding, got done pretty early; cleaned everything. Mrs. Geodelle called out said Leona stood the trip alright to the hospital; she won’t have to be operated on. Henry stayed over all night.
Sunday, Jan. 5, 1936
We went to Waterloo church, & then went to Gus Geodelle’s to see Leona, she is very weak, gets nothing to eat, not much; we brought Floyd along with us to. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile. Henry came to get crushing this afternoon. Wilbert Geodelle is having a birthday dance at Pautlers tonite, musci [sic] by Rythm [sic] Kings. John Kaltwasser is being buried this afternoon at Stehfests cemetery, from Belleville; Eugene Ahern of Waterloo will be buried Tues. morn.

Pap & Rob went up split wood, near the woods. Rob. got the mail. William Smith of St. Louis, & Berniece [sic] Mehrmann of Waterloo marriage license were in the paper, but Clem Parker’s wasn’t in. Henry called this morning said Leona was sleeping when he left, she is still in Waterloo yet.
Thursday, Jan. 2, 1936
Berti went out to Henry’s, cleaned & washed, ironed. Leona stayed at Waterloo, took here in yesterday, still there, has it in her stomach, the doctor says. Robert came along home with us, had supper & breakfast. Joe Griffin came looked over our telephone, but everything is OK he found a lose connection by Wagners alley. A fellow close by Belleville, came looked at our cow & pigs. We played lotto, Rob. played musci [sic].
