Papa & Rosalia went back to Reheis again, & Uncle Fred to, Aunt Mary stayed last nite; Bertille came along home, helped clean up to. We all went out to Reheis this evening & stayed all night, had supper & breakfast & the people that came, it was such a crowd in & out, we took our clothes along ready for funeral.

Papa went out with the Doctor to see Aunt Lizzie this morn. Aunt Mary & Uncle Fred when out this afternoon. They oiled the streets again this Morning. Aunt Lizzie she was 58 yrs. 3 mo. 19 days died at 10 mins, after 12 today, they didn’t have no priest, Aunt Mary got to late, also Jac, got to later. Mr. Rittmeyer was here selling brushes. Mrs. Rennecker came over. Henry went over to Reheis this evening; but they didn’t have her home yet, not till tomorrow.

We canned 4 pint peas yesterday, & having beans for dinner today. George Wagner finished up this morn. he had lunch & dinner here. Papa paid him 50¢ half day. We washed the Whippet & then drove out through the country towards evening to Nowland on Gundlach Place. Hugo Probst & Wilma Reheis are being married at 2 o clock at Smithon [sic] parsonage, she is to have white dress & wreath, & the bridemaid [sic] Irene Reheis will wear blue, Robert & Hugo wear businis [sic] suits, we had no invitiation, to the wedding dance at Daab’s Club House, so we didn’t go. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here before they went; but we where gone. Rheinhardt was to furnished music for the dance. Henry & family where up this evening.

We are baking bread, cleaning for tomorrow is a holiday. Henry is 29 yrs. old. & also 5 wedding anniversary. We been planting corn, water mellons [sic], pumpkins. It rained last night & this morning heavy. We went to Waterloo, to church, got our battery from Horns took the other one down to Bill’s, but nobody at home there. We planted out 100 sweet potatoe [sic] plants for 25¢, got them at Connor’s; we didn’t get to the birthday the roads are to bad. Miss Irene Reheis delightfully entertained at surprize misscellaneous [sic] Shower in honor of bride-to-be, Wilma Reheis & Hugo Probst to be married June 7th; singing & dancing were the featured diversions of the evening; the bride to be received many beautiful gifts, the attendants at the wedding will be Miss Irene Reheis, & a cousin & Robert Probst brother to groom.

We washed, ironed. Papa & Rosalia went to see Meyers, to see if he still had some more corn to sell, he hasn’t, they brought 1 bu. pick, along for seed. Papa went up to see Reheis about the corn, but he had to see Dr. Wagner first, he wanted some too, so Papa drove out to Barney Kaiser’s, & bought about 50 bus. delivered to the house for 35¢. Rosalia & Bertille went out to Henrys, washed, & worked garden. It rained a little again this evening. Ivo Buehler is working Henry Armstutz’s corn ground up with the tractor for him, for $1.00 hr, papa wants to get him to work ours to; cut it up & harrow it, to hard on the one mule.

Henry came here, & we went along with him to Hershel [sic – Herschel] Blackburns funeral, to church & cemetery, we didn’t go out to the house, we thought the roads would be bad, but they said the roads are good; it was a very large funeral, & very sad one. The pall bearers where Grover Cleveland, Buddy Napier, Elmer Papenberg, Dilbert Mueth, Henry Sensel, Alfred Eckert; all boys of 14. Henry was here for lunch. We drove out to Ronnerberg’s looked at the corn there; it is Reheis. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up to work in there garden, planted cabbage plants out, came over here for supper, brought chicken along. Josie Gregson birthday.
[editor’s note: Herschel Blackburn was born in 1919. He died just shy of his 14th birthday; hence the reason why Bertille mentions that all his pallbearers were 14.]

We went to church, Good Friday, everybody has church today. It rained last night & today. Mudd & Eichenseer students are both at home serving mass; yesterday morning. Papa got the mail; seen in the paper that Aunt Lizzie Reheis was surprised Sun. afternoon on her 58th birthday anniversary, by friends from St. Louis. Mr. & Mrs. Frank Dudenhoeffer, Sulaff’s & Turners: all of St. Louis, Clarence Voges, Fred & Peter Reheis & Jake’s family.

We washed, ironed, scrubbed basement, this morn. Papa & Rosalia went to Waterloo took load wheat along & eggs are 9¢, wheat 48¢. Bertille stayed at Henry’s, made a little garden, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where there too, they brought seed potatoes up. Robert was in bed, had a few pimples, thought it might be measles. Wilma Reheis has them. Papa took chickens to the store 54 lbs. 8¢ lb. & had to pay tax on the things what he bought. It is terrible windy this afternoon.

We washed, ironed. Beautiful day like spring. Papa went up in the woods, this afternoon. Louis Dehn is butchering his hog here at Renneckers 600 lbs. Robert Laut is also, he got 2 hogs from Christ Buehlers. Edwin Reheis had there little baby bay christened the other Sun at Smithon [sic] by Rev. Hosto, called it Emil Fred, was sponsor. Papa brought 1 gal. milk along for the pigs. We went out to Henry’s this evening. Papa & Henry went up to Joe Mueths, this 12 o’clock, he is pretty bad, the doctor gives him up, he breathes so loud, & some times not at all, girls are all at home.

We washed and iron & baked bread today. Papa & Rosalia got a load of oats at Henry’s this afternoon. Cyril & Clarence came down this eve, & got each a bu. oats & sack of hay for 300 for there rabbits. Aunt Mary called up this evening, she was quilting at Henry Birkners today. Ed. Meng was over & paid Uncle Freds int. Mr. & Mrs. Edwin Reheis has a little boy since Dec. 27, they have now a girl & boy. Mrs. Joe Mueth nee Brocs died at 5 o clock this eve. Papa went to town. Miss Martha Boll of St. Louis called out to Geo. Boll’s & congraulated [sic] him on his birthday. Joe Watchel is butchering.
