Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for pie lunch this morn.  After mass this morn – the chances were raffled from the Pinic [sic], Tom Havey won the stove, Mrs. Hy S. Braun won the tea set, Lester Miller won a quilt, Uncle Joe won something too.  There was 5 articles raffled out.  This afternoon we all went out to Henry’s, he was up for church this morn – then went home & started cutting wheat again, Gus Geodell’s was out too, he was sitting on the binder.  We helped to bake dewberry pie.  Then it started in a raining & we went home.  George Wagners have lots of company today, it is Charles Birthday he is 4 yrs. old.  The Merhmans, Fritsche’s, Ettlings, Kammlers where all there.  It is a real lawn party.

They gave beautiful prizes, Bessie Parker got the silk pillow with a slip in candy, Clarance [Clarence] Wittenauer got a bottle perfume, & many others got prizes at the show.  We went tonight again they raffled 2 blankets, Levi Gregson, & Hilda Neff were the winners.  They also sold candy, & Erma Hepp got the silk spread, Nick Helfrich, the silk hose, & many others, Rosalia got a teaspoon.  They sure do draw the crowd, there play tonight was Kitty’s Statue.  They sold out on the candy, & there was a blanket left that no one called for, so he raffled that one & Eugene Bruns winner.  Rosalia & Bertille went to church this morning.  We washed, ironed, patched, baked bread today.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary come this afternoon to work at there place, they where here for lunch & supper, then they went us, to the show.  We were by Mrs. Rennecker & got some flowers.

Bertille baked molasses cookies, & Rosalia is shelling corn this morning.  Papa went out to Henry’s to help him measure for a milk house, he wants to make it in the back porch, they say its allright that way.  This afternoon Papa & Henry went to Belleville to get the lumber for it.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening for the euchre & dance given by the Y.P.L. in Kammlers Hall.  Bill Herzog & his brother Ray furnished the musci [sic], 10 games in Euchre where played Uncle Fred had 6 points & got a Jar of Honey Aunt Mary had 6, & got a pan & a lid, Bertille had 6 got a potato masher.  Rosalia had 3 points.  Wm. Sensels the assessor was here & sessed Uncle Fred’s property.

Tuesday, April 14, 1931

Today Wm. Curran & Julia Ruby are getting married in St. Patrick’s church Tiptown, & this evening they will have a wedding dance at Oak Grove.  Philip & Bill came out & we went to the dance.  The wedding couple marched around the hall, then they danced a waltz.  Mabel Crook & Olga Bozzay where the attendants.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went too.  We all went too Waterloo this afternoon to the car sale at Nobbe’s.  Aunt Mary won a prize a dress, cap & anklets given by Clara Siegel.  The dress she got exchanged for a larger one & Rosalia got the cap, & Bertille the socks.  Nelson Kleyer won the old ford coupe that was raffled.  There was a man here this morning selling the Daily Advocate paper.  The insurance man from Horse Prairie was also here.  Victor Eichenseer was here too.  We stopped at Henry’s when we went to Waterloo.  Frank Dudenhoeffers & Margaret & the family where at Uncle Pete’s last Sunday.  She said we should come over to St. Louis next Sunday.  Our little chicks are hatching Sat., so I don’t know if we will go or not but I guess if it don’t rain we will.

Sunday, February 1, 1931

Henry & family & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were all here for dinner today.  Elmer Kammler came here this afternoon & paid Uncle Fred’s his $10.00 rent for the first & last time.  Phillip Freund was here for supper, then we all went to the show in the new school hall.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & family came all up to see it.  It sure was good.  Adm. was 10 & 25¢ and 25% of what they took in went for the hall.  They also sold candy 10¢ & in some boxes you get a coupon & on there you could win perfume, pillows, razor & many different articles.  Aunt Mary got a waste basket.  It was all over about 9:30.  They are going to be at Smithton on Feb. 5 there they will also give a dance.

Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1931

We went to Belleville this morn. & sold 5 doz. eggs for .25¢ & 12 doz. for .20¢.  We got new hats today.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were there too.  The way it looks like Elmer Kammlers are moving today.  They are loading up things, rugs & boxes up too Gambachs place, but they wasn’t told to move by Uncle Fred & Elmer never say anything to him.  Tonight is euchre in the new school hall again.  Papa & Rosalia are hauling water from Henry’s cistern and are putting it in ours, with milk cans.  Papa took the milk cans back to Oscar Birkners & Ronerbergs again.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening & then we all went to the euchre, there wasn’t many people there.  Rosalia & Aunt Mary each won a prize.  Rosalia had 7 points & got a hat.  Aunt Mary had 8 points & got a pair of pillow cases.

Thursday, Nov. 13, 1930

Papa went up in the woods this morning & Rosalia went out to Henry’s to help Leona fry down beef.  She took 4 gal. lard along.  Tonight is Bluey (?) in the church Hall & 100 turkeys & geese given away as prizes.  We were there.  Rosalia got a turkey tom.  Lester Gregson & Mr. Williams the feed man from E. St. Louis, was here this afternoon, we ordered a sack of feed.  Lester is going to bring it tomorrow night.

Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1930

Henry started plowing up here today.  Leona came up too and the kids, they were all here for dinner.  We washed this morning.  Rosalia & Bertille went to the Euchre in Kammler’s Hall this evening, but didn’t win anything.  Rosalia had 6 points & Bertille 7, but the 8’s didn’t all get prizes, there wasn’t enough.  Aunt Mary got a sauce pan she had 10 points.

Sunday, Oct. 5, 1930

Today is shooting matches all over.  Hepe Bros. at St. Joe. Hy. Eichelmann, and many other places.  A ambulance went through town this morning.  The St. Augustine’s Parish is to have a euchre tonight, they called over the lines for it.  Papa & Rosalia each got a prize at the euchre, a dresser scarf & wall flower vase.  Bertille had 4 punches.  Rosalia 8 & Papa 7.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary both had 7’s.  They each got a prize too.  They took a watermelon & a box of sweet potatoes there for prizes.  Elmer Parker got the watermelon.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening a little while before the euchre.  Uncle Fred ate a little supper with us, we were just ready to ate when they came.  There sure was a crowd at the euchre they had 25 tables.  They had a electric radio victrola in the ball for music.  We found 38 eggs today.
