Rosalia 23 birthday. Uncle Fred went home, Aunt Mary stayed, helped Rose fix another dress for herself. Henry & family came this evening, he brought the team along for pap; to use this week. Cleveland’s came, played pinochle; had watermelon & cake. Uncle & Aunt had supper here, we made spring chicken & dressing.
Wednesday, Aug. 29, 1934
Henry & family came, papa went along with him to Walter Millers sale by Smithon [sic]; the rest stayed here, had dinner, brought one of her dresses along to remodel. Henry came home about 1 o clock. Papa came with Uncle Fred’s. Aunt Mary & Berti went over to Mrs. Staufenbiel, she took dress goods along, for her to make; Uncle went to see Armstutz’s, they had supper & watermelon here. The sale was such a crowd, like pinic [sic], had musci [sic], fellow selling medicine there. Otto Horn, was here, & Monroe Feurer to see Papa; Feurer wants to count hogs.
Thursday, Aug. 23, 1934
Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary’s Wedding Ann. 36th. Frank Birkner’s have a little baby girl since Aug. 20. Mon. Edna & also Jerome Cortner’s, but it was born dead. Light rain nearly all morning. We went out to Uncle Fred’s this evening, Henry & family came too, watermelon, cake, candy were served; the roads aren’t bad.
Friday, Aug. 17, 1934
Baked bread & coffee cake. Henry & family came up he plowed. Rob. stayed up, had lunch, supper. Leona came back this eve. & brought the kids up, they stayed here with pap; we went along with them to the carnival at the Country Club, sure beautiful, free dance, musci [sic] by Dixie Blue Boys of Belleville. Mr. Ivo Rapp & Eunice Blackburn, were married at the priest’s house here this evening 5:30. Clem Parker & Ivonne Rapp, the attendants. Oh Boy! wedding on Fri. Al. Rittmeyer sales agent for brusches [sic] was here, left us a sample brush.
Wednesday, Aug. 8, 1934
Derousse & wife, eye doctors of Waterloo, stopped, go from house to house, testing eyes, they said Rosalia’s is weak; yesterday. Clean chicken houses, cut lawn, dug potatoes. St. Augustine’s church, have pinic [sic], chicken supper, 50¢ this afternoon & evening musci [sic] by Smithon [sic] Band; Church Pinic [sic] is Rocher, K.C. Pinic [sic] East St. Louis. Free birthday dance at Breezy Hill tonite; Moonlighters. Henry took wheat to Red Bud. Leona & kids all had supper here, went to the pinic [sic]. This evening we all went up to the pinic [sic], very large crowd, quilts & blankets were raffled in bingo playing; we didn’t win anything. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was here awhile before the pinic [sic]. The chances in the books that were sold, was a plain quilt to Keoniomark of Waterloo, Clare Cleveland, small rug, C. Braun knifes & forks, 100 lbs. sugar, A. Lother, $3.00 Wm. Volkmann, $2 Wil Wittenauer. Uncle Fred rayon spread; several others articles; F. Dudenhoeffer went home, & the other boy’s came up.
Saturday, Aug. 4, 1934
Leona brought Henry up; he had dinner, lunch, supper. Papa & Henry went over to Ed. Meng’s looked at horses. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & papa went down to Mrs. Gruber’s sale on Gregson farm, didn’t buy anything; large crowd, & fair prices. $120. for horses. Papa & Rosalia wen to Belleville this morning. Leona kids came this evening to get Henry. Clifford has a chev. now $25.00. Hugo Probst is repairing his house, the old folks moved down, & young folks up there because it is closer to his garage there.
Friday, Aug. 3, 1934
Papa & Rosalia dug bucket potatoes. Went to to Waterloo took a load wheat in, 87¢ went to the bank. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, she helped to clean dishes for pinic [sic], in the school house; had dinner, & watermelons here. Henry was here for dinner & supper, he started plowing after dinner, with tractor. Papa got the money from Hempe’s $1400.00 & he paid $1700.00 of to Uncle Fred; & $17.00 interest. Leona & kids came up to get Henry.

We went out to Uncle Fred’s, had dinner & supper. Henry’s family came over to in the afternoon, they went up to Knob’s, horse trader. Hecker ball team won at Prairie Du Rocher.
