Papa took the feed up to be crushed but they didn’t start till late & Roy said he would bring it down at noon, so he did. We went out to Henry’s butchering 2 pigs, it rained & sleet all the while they were scalding them; we ground the sausage meat, with the machine wheel, went through in a hurry; had dinner, cleaned & scrubbed everything; brought Rose [Rosalia] along home; got 1935 calandars [sic] from Eichenseers tonight. Geo. Geodelle is having a birthday dance at Pautler’s tonite, Adm. Gents 25, ladies free Moonlighters playing. Miss Burgess Hecker school teacher has changed boarding places, has moved from Jatho’s to B Frilsther’s.

Fried down bacon & sausage; patched, ironed. Bertie went to dentist, he couldn’t finish it yet; forgot root canal filling. Went out to Henry’s took boys clothes along. Leona came home this afternoon. Rosalia stayed out. She took the boys to school this morning & delivered some cold tablets to Cleveland’s; stopped by Henrys awhile. A beautiful day, warm. Emils birthday 51 yrs. old today. Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Bestmann, nee Geodelle have a baby girl Mon. night, first.

Rosalia & Berti went out to Henry, cleaned, washed, ironed, patched. Leona is sick, is in Waterloo by Geodelle also Billy. Henry & the boys go back & forth over the nights, boys go to school. Feast of St. Nick today. There is retreat for the ladies at the St. Augustine’s Parish, Father Smion is here for the retreat. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, had dinner here, she attended church this morning & afternoon. Leona is in bed, all the time.

Thanksgiving Day. Rose & Berti went to mass. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped awhile, then went up to help at the Turkey Dinner at the School; all day affair, lotto this afternoon. Eugene Bruns stopped on business. We made ribs & dressing, pumpkin pie, cranberry relish. Leona & Billy came up to meet Miss Klube on the bus this morning, she is visiting out here today. Mr. Roy Pautler & Miss Lavina Goedelle were married at the Red Bud Catholic parsonage this afternoon, Friedrich of Colombia & Winehof of Waterloo married this morning, we went to Wedding dance at Pautlers musci [sic] from Dupo. Jaegher & Minneman wedding couple also attended the dance, were married at priest house. Uncle Fred came down a little while, said there was a nice crowd at the turkey & Lotto this afternoon. It rained again this evening.

Bertille’s birthday 20 yr. anniversary. Cleaned furnace, baked. Rosalia sewed dress. The dance given in Kammler’s Hall last night by The Pals of Harmony was nothing no crowd. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & family & Mr. & Mrs. Dan Geodelle & family were here this evening, played cards.

We finished digging potatoes. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon, she went along with us to Belleville, we got new winter hats. Mr. Jake Cole stopped in. Mr. Herman Geodelle of Waterloo died. Miss Adele Crowe gave a surprize [sic] bridal shower for Miss Olga Bozzy who is to wed Mr. John Schauer of St. Joseph Mo. soon, Miss Magaret May won first prize in bunco. We went to Donahue’s free dance this evening, Carlos Entainers [sic], crowd wasnt so hot, but boy the fish was swell. Oak Grove has theres tomorrow nite.

We washed, ironed. Went to Waterloo got the Whip repaired, took nearly all afternoon; Rosalia & Bertie went by Mrs. Geodelle awhile; & took in the town. Wheat is 94¢ & hogs $7.45.

Papa & Rose put roofing on the barn, nice cool this morn. Pierre Laut is sick, tonsil’s, has 104 fever. A man here wanted to see Uncle Fred, wanted a drill; but it is already sold. Peaches at Waterloo are selling at $1.65 -75 a bu. by Al. Heyl’s; all $2. & 35 around here. Mr. James Crowe son of the late police men[,] James Crowe, was married Tues. morning to Miss Flora Wielbacher of Columbia, & at that parish, he was formerly of Waterloo, but now of Columbia were he is employed as mechanic there in garage. The New Athens & Hecker hard road route, 156 is now opened. Miss Mildred Rist 15 yr. old daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Joh Rist was operated for appendix; last Friday in Red Bud Hospital. Miss Elva Knapp, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Henry Knapp was honored with a shower, given by & Misses Edna & Lavina Geodelle, she will become the bride to Mr. Harold Kloft of East St. Louis, the marriage to take place early in Sept. Last Mon. morning Bill Donahue of Midway Inn on Route 3, was awakened by a barking dog, on investigating found that his 25 half grown turkeys had disappeared, from there roosting place, he found 19 doped [sic – dropped] in a cornfield nearby.

Billy’s [aka Willis] 1 yr. old. Mr. Rettinghouse buried year ago today. We went to Belleville this morning took 17 3/8 lbs. chicks along 15¢; got new hats 29¢. We went out to the birthday, Geodelle’s, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Grover, were there, cake was served.
