Friday, March 13, 1931

Today is Floyd’s birthday, he is 2 yrs. old, we were out there all day, for dinner.  Papa & Henry worked in the woods.  They hauled our woods together 20 loads we got.  This evening we all went out there again.  Uncle Fred Aunt Mary, Gus Geodelle & wife were all there, cake & lemonade were served.  Eggs are 17¢.

Monday, March 9, 1931

We all went out to Henry’s today butchering.  Papa & Henry did it, they started about 9 o’clock & finished about 3 o’clock.  It wasn’t a very heavy hog.  Eggs are still 18¢ yet.  Walter & Aunt Lizzie were at Henry’s this morning & got 3 doz. eggs for setting.  Floyd was awful cranky today.  He has so much fever.

Sunday, March 8, 1931

It is snowing & awful cold this morn.  Papa didn’t go to church today.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here for dinner today.  Henry was up & got medicine for Floyd, he has the measles now.  Papa paid Uncle Fred for the seed potatoes today.  2 bu for $1.80.  Today is August Blackburn’s birthday.  Fr. Grootens went down to the Evangelical Church between our masses, & before there service & preached a sermon about the bank.  They should do as he says & everything will be allright.  Fred Schaefer brought Rome Meng home this evening, he was snowed under he couldn’t hardly hold him up.  Philip & Bill Freund were here this evening & we all went to church.

Thursday, Dec. 25, 1930

Today is Merry Christmas.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up early this morning & we all went to church but Uncle Fred he went up stairs & lay down awhile with the kids.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was here last night for supper.  This morning they were all here for breakfast.  Henry & Leona went home & left the kids here.  Bobby went along with them home with Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary.  We took Floyd along out to Henry’s with us, we were all there for dinner & for supper, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Geodells, family.  In the afternoon we played pinochle.  Papa & Bertille were partners & won every game against Uncle Fred & Henry.  We came home about 4:30 then Bertille went after the mail, but no mail there.  Mamie Eichenseer called up this evening & wanted to know if we would be at home, so then she came down this [way], we played pinochle, Papa & Bertille & we won every game.  Then we played Euchre because next Sun. night is euchre in the School Hall, but them Mamie & Rosalia won.  She stayed till about 10 o’clock.

Sunday, Oct. 26, 1930

Today is shooting matches all over again, Ambrose Doyle, Philip Meuth, George Rickert.  Henry & family were all here for dinner today.  Little after dinner they went home.  In the evening Henry & Leona brought Bobby & Floyd here to stay with us all night, while they went to New Athens to play music.

Friday, Sept. 26, 1930

Henry & Leona came up this morning, they brought Bobby & Floyd here, & then they went up to Belleville.  They all had dinner with us.  Papa went down & cut the cemetery grass this afternoon & then he got a load of wood.  Philip Braun is starting to put Elmer Kammler’s roof on today, Robert Laut & Ed Neff are helping him.  Today is Charles Schilling’s birhtday he is going to be 17 or 18, I don’t know which.

Monday, August 25, 1930

Today it is a year that Stella Griffin died.  Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary came up this morning & Papa & Uncle Fred got rocks from the city lot & brought them here and laid crossings.  Aunt Mary fixed Rosalia’s dress & then she dyed it purple.  They were here for lunch, dinner, lunch.  Leona was here this morning and brought Bobby & Floyd here, they stayed all day with us & this evening Henry & Leona came up after them.

Wednesday, August 20, 1930

Today we have to get things ready for the picnic tomorrow.  Papa is hauling gravel this morning again.  Bobby and Floyd were up here all day.  We took them home this evening.

Tuesday, July 15, 1930

We are cooking plum jelly today.  Bertille went up town & got some sugar.  Papa is spreading lime dust this morning.  Kuhns are plowing over at Ed Mengs, they are going to stay another year yet.  I guess they will crop our ground again too.  Leona, Robert, & Floyd were here this afternoon, she came up & got the milk check.  Clarence Pabst was here this afternoon & brought the oats here from down at their place.  I saw in the paper that Joe Handrich fainted while out at thrashing, but they called for Dr. Pautler from Waterloo to come out.  He is allright again now.  They took William Braun to the hospital last Thurs. he got operated on appendicitis, he is as good as can be expected, last Sunday.  Papa went to Waterloo last Sun. & got the oil changed in the chev. 10,942 miles.  Steve Rennecker came over a little while this evening.

Thursday, May 22, 1930

Rosalia & Bertille washed, ironed, patched & baked cookies today.  Leona, Robert, Floyd were up this morning.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening.  They got a letter today from Henry Keorber to come to a basket picnic Sunday at Rittemeyer’s woods.  Tonight there is a Public dance at Nick Schaefers barn.  There was a man at our house this afternoon, by the name of Mr. Sparks.  He sell the Wayne Feed but Papa wasn’t at home.  He was out at Henry’s with a guy from Belleville that wanted to buy a mule or the mare.  But he didn’t buy neither one.  Uncle Fred and Papa went up to the creamery this evening to see if they could get some cinders.  But they couldn’t have none right now, but maybe later on.  Aunt Mary was saying Bertha Wolf could die anytime now.  She got operated on for appendicitis and now she is awful bad sick.  They phoned and left Mrs. Jatho at Hecker.  I have noticed Edgar Herzog from New Athens and Miss Luetta Fanke of Lenzburg have their marriage license in the paper today.  He is 19 years old and she is 18 years old.  They go out playing music together.  They play the accordions.
