Monday, Sept. 19, 1932

Mr. Willie Ganley was here this morning, but papa was at the molasses factory, so he walked down there. Mr. Chas. Fleckestine passed away Sat. & will be buried this afternoon, leaving the house at 2 o’clock, then to the cemetery,  Hecker, with services at the home. We cleaned the chicken house put straw, in the nests. We shocked & cut our corn all this morn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening, they brought potatoes for Braun’s, they stayed a little while. George Boll came & looked at our cow & calf, he has one he might trade. Henry & family where up got whey & tomatoes. Mrs. Kock invited her, & all of us to come to Coxeyville to her birthday dance Oct. 6.

Thursday, Sept. 15, 1932

We & Aunt Mary went to Belleville, & Rosalia got a red dress for $4.77 & hats 59¢. Mrs. Wm. Birkner was here a little while. Lavern Keorker was going around town selling apples $1.00 bu. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to the Rod & Gun Glub [sic – Club] House tonite. Mrs. Probst is celebrating her birthday there. Henry & family came up this evening, she took a basket tomatoes along home. The Farm Advisor Hughes is going to vaccinate his hogs for him Sat. morning & ours too. We sold 2 of our hams one 19¼ lbs. & 21 lbs. @ 15¢, Kolmier & Winkler of Waterloo got them. Papa got a glass of molasses this eve, at the factory, he hauled cane again this afternoon.

Sunday, Sept. 11, 1932

We went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had chicken dinner here with us, & we ate supper over there with them, & they stayed awhile this evening. Henry & family where coming up but they got company, Henry Birkner’s family.

Tuesday, Sept. 6, 1932

We washed, ironed. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s to meet that fellow there with the cow & calf, mule. Today school begins. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s & got the 2 mules, then he cut hay here. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this morning. We cup up tomatoes for catsup a big pit full. Henry & family came up this evening & got a basket of yellow tomatoes for canning. Calf was born last Wed. Aug. 31.

Saturday, Sept. 3, 1932

Papa got crushing done. Mrs. Osie Neff is pretty bad sick the way they say. We had spring chicken dinner. This evening the Waterloo & Millstadt Homecoming, begin; with a dance, & band concert, & carnivals. It is cloudy & gloomy this morn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & family where all up this evening, eating cake, watermellons [sic] & beer, celebrating Rosalia’s birthday. 21 yrs. old.

Sunday, Aug. 28, 1932

We went to Red Bud bought Miss Bell & Miss Mary along to spend the day with us; dinner & supper, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where also here, & Mrs. Stauenfbiel. Henry & family, came to get the whey, she drove the car home & him the wagon. Aunt Mary took the pillow cases along to Mrs. Stauenfbiel & left them there for the pinic [sic]. Rosalia & papa took the company home about 8 o’clock.

Tuesday, Aug. 23, 1932

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this morn, had spring chicken dinner here with us & also lunch. We cut Bobby shirt out, this afternoon. Aunt Mary & Rosalia drove down to Rapp’s. Got 5 watermellons for 25¢. 45 lbs.  Jung the egg man got 23 doz. eggs. Today is Uncle Freds & Aunt Mary’s 34 wedding anniversary. We also went; across the street, Henry & family came up too, watermellons & cake where served. The New Athens cleaners where around.

Sunday, Aug. 21, 1932

We where at Red Bud. Uncle Fred & papa went out to Louis Armstutz’s quarry & got 85 little fish & put them in our pond; all catfish except one sun fish. Henry & family where here for dinner, then we went to the Evangical [sic] pinic [sic] in Manier’s park, ate supper there, 40¢; they had a nice day & crowd pretty fair. Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence Matthews of Waterloo, have a little baby girl since yesterday 10½ lbs; she is by Geodelle’s at home.

Tuesday, Aug. 16, 1932

We washed, ironed, patched, cooked catsup, canned tomatoes, pickles & beans. Ben Valentine a deaf & dumb mute was here selling moth tabs for a living, he has a wife & 2 children & lives in Red Bud Ill., his wife is also like him, but his children can talk & hear, he had 2 brothers & 1 sister that don’t hear & talk, we took one for 15¢. There was man here from Sparta selling home grown peaches for $2.00 bu., there were nice, but we didn’t take any. Mr. Jung was here & got 9 doz. eggs. 15¢. Henry & family came up this evening & got tomatoes, the yellow ones, for canning.

Thursday, Aug. 11, 1932

It rained this morning real nice. Rosalia is supposed to go to the dentist this morn. Henry & family came up here, then we went around the hard road to Waterloo. Bobby stayed here with papa. They are both finished now at the dentist Rosalia’s bill is $22.00 & Leona $4.00. Rosalia had 8 teeth filled. There was a furniture truck drove in to Karl Boll’s this morn, Smiths [? – unclear] & got some of his furniture. It rained this evening.
