Beautiful day. Bill Fritsche look & fix our furnace. Pap went up in woods, got load corn fodder. Frank Kroll wanted to see him, about lots at cemetery, so he had to go out there. Henry Schaefer of Waterloo died, to be buried tomorrow, at Hecker cemetery. Fr. Aydt to have mass at Waterloo at 10′ o clock then out to cemetery, there is 3 funeral masses at Waterloo, 2 are Stackels, one being Hy. Emery’s father in law, & Schaefer. Joe Gregson & Lester bought 2 acres of land from Wil. Harbaugh, $800.00, going to operate & build a filling station, it is already staked of. We went to Belleville this afternoon, pap went to dentist again.

Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1936

Nice day, cool. The tree man was here. We went out to Henry’s helped clean bedroom today had dinner. A man here selling electric machine for all kind of work. Mr & Mrs Ed Brand were at Belleville at Frick’s funeral & stopped in here, on way to Levi Gregson’s; to say Hello! Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came from Cortner’s funeral at Hecker here. Mr. William Freund 27 & Marcella Fahey 25 are being married at Tipton this morning, attendants twin [to bride] Estella Fahey & Joe Freund; no wedding dance. Miss Dorothy Schoenborn & Sutter of Millsdadt [sic] married at Belleville this morning, attendants Jac Schoenborn, Rose Stul & Rudy Helfrich & Tillie Rhinehardt, friends, dance held at Stolbergs Lake Belleville.

Monday, Oct. 26, 1936

We washed. Pap went out to Henry’s & Uncle Adam’s. We went to Mr. Geo. Hepp funeral this afternoon, in Dec. he would be 103 yrs. old. grandchildren pallbearers, large funeral, the weather was ugly & cold; couldn’t all get in church, that was at the Round Prairie Church & Cemetery. Mr. Nic Cortner Sr. died will be buried tomorrow afternoon, Hecker cemetery. Isadore Cowell of Red Bud was buried last Sat. afternoon there & Mr. Ernst Frick of Belleville died, & will also be buried tomorrow afternoon.

Thursday, Oct. 8, 1936

Cloudy & raining, foggy. Pap went to see Pleuger & to Gukers at Red Bud, made even trade with his Philco & our’s. it is a pretty small radio, but is clear; we still have ours here yet. We went to Belleville to dentist again. Bernice got 1 doz. eggs. 25¢.

Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1936

Cloudy & dark. Mr. Dare Bros. got the drill this morn. We had beef soup dinner today. Leo & Rose went to Belleville to St. Marys Church Hall to a bazzar [sic] & chicken supper, got a pair pillow cases, raffled with a wheel; pretty.

Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1936

Pap harrowed for Chris Buehler, in our field. Mr. Emil Geodelle plaster of Waterloo fixed the front room ceiling, finished at Kemps to. Pap & Rose went to Belleville, he got 3 teeth pulled, at Dr. Wagners. Omer & Bertie went to St. Louis to Emil’s, seen the Veil[ed] Prophet parade, was real nice, had 20 floats, different states & bands etc. It rained this afternoon. Hecker Catholics had euchre party tonite in school hall, 26 tables; quite few from other place they say.

Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1936

Cloudy this morn. but Sun shining now, getting cooler. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped here went to Waterloo to get wall papers. Vic Eichenseer came & got there radio again this afternoon, no trade yet. Mr. Odello Eichenseer & Dorthy Meyer are being married at Belleville at St. Threasa [sic] this morning; wedding dance at Daab’s Club House tonite, we are invited to attend; & we went. Schmidts Merry Makers played; her twin sister Doris & friend best & Mamie maid of honor, & Cyril; usher; wasn’t a very large crowd; drinks beer & cake free.

Monday, Sept. 28, 1936

Raining all day & cooler. Henry & Leona went to Belleville. Billy stayed here; boys were at school. The town lights were put up today, we had lights all over town tonite, at 5:05, turned on over at New Athens. Mr. Bill Kammler died, yesterday morn, of a cancer & stroke, will be buried tomorrow afternoon at the church & cemetery. Mr. Guker of Red Bud brought Joe Walcthel radio up $42.50 pretty nice, Philio, also brought a $17.00 here, its small Philio, nice an loud, we should keep it for a week, till Sun. morn.

Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1936

Pap went out to see Mason. We baked pie & cookies, cut lawn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this evening; Chris Buehlers was by them last nite, got some cucumbers, she brought some along here to. Some of the men from here aren’t working these days at the Foundry at Belleville. We had a couple of nice showers this afternoon, sure nice. It has been so hot.

Saturday, Sept. 12, 1936

Pap got haircut. We went to Belleville got new hats. Brought Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary along, were over at Kellers since Tues.They had dinner here, took them home, had watermelon there, then we went to Waterloo, paid dentist Hotz $2. for Bertie tooth. Went to church. Joe Griffin & wife came awhile this evening. Radio isn’t so good, bad nite.
