Went to mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped awhile. Orlets came & Bill [Klein] this afternoon, & we took a drive in V8 to Fort Chartres & Renault, Waterloo home; had nice drive & hot. all had supper here. John Schaefer’s new home, that is going up in Waterloo was boombed [sic] by chimney $200 damage had just gotten roof on same day. Crook boys had accident at Leohr Station but reported getting along well, were taken to hospital.

Went to Orlet’s this morn. Pap drove binder. Jake had to work in quarry, till noon, then he worked this afternoon; had lunch, dinner. brought Marita along home again. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up this afternoon. We put our berries away got 6 qts.

Tuesday, June 13, 1939

Raining all morn. & cloudy all day. Wittenauer’s came worked corn. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came he went to Waterloo with wheat & got oil changed in his car. Ironed few pieces. Pap picked dewberries, got pt. & 2 glasses jelley [sic]; canned 1 qt. 1 pt. beets. Eggs 13 [cents] Wheat 70.

Went to mass. Celebrate feast of Corpus Christi. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped awhile; her & Bert [Bertille] went to Minnie Staufenbiels to get her dress, its all finished now. Leo & family came for dinner, he went to church here. Bill [Klein] came this afternoon, getting his new V.8 Ford this week. coach, greenish gray; from Favre at Smithton. Ed. Helfrich & Leona Horescher were published at Paderborn. The Hecker Ladies Aid have there Cold Supper & pinic [sic] today at church grounds, pretty cool for pinic [sic], having a 4H Club band from around Waterloo. The 4 Happy Ramblers are having a dance at Kammler’s tonite. Awful cool.

Raining this morn; pretty heavy rain to. Today is funeral at Waterloo of Andrew Dietz of Burksville & Mrs. Walsh at Tipton – Vincent mother; & Mrs. Kroll to be tomorrow morn. at Hecker, all at Quernheims parlor. We went to Waterloo this afternoon, took wheat in got 70 [cents] bus. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped, he went to Red Bud, & she went to Buehler’s. Warm this evening.

Cloudy & rain this afternoon. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up awhile. Rose [Rosalia] & Marita came this morn. Bert [Bertille] went with her to Red Bud to Raffli got permanents. We went over to Emils awhile this eve; sure nice rain.

Wednesday, June 7, 1939

Went to Leo’s helped plant patch corn & make hay this afternoon; had lunch & chicken dinner there. We also had first cabbage of season of ours today. Rained this afternoon, but not so much, we need it alwful [sic] bad day. Mrs. Willing Kreher came home from Belleville Hospital yesterday, after giving birth to a 3 lb. baby, which is still in hospital in incubator. Planted out tomatoes & pepper plant last for season, sprayed potatoes. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came, she went to Mrs. Staufenbiels, to see about her dress. Mrs. Agnes Kroll died of a stroke this morn; while Kate was at mass; she has been blind for good many years.

Went to Leo’s all day, had chicken dinner worked in corn & put up hay. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came up awhile to; brought her some tomato plants.

Washed, ironed, canned 2 qts. x pt. cherries, so far from our trees, some are to green yet. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary went to Red Bud pinic [sic]. Con. Myerscough was here has pigs for sale. Pap went down to see them & bought 5 for $15.00. Mrs. Rennecker birthday today. Cut lawn. Beautiful weather, warm.

Penetcost [sic]. Went to mass. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Leo & family & Bill [Klein] came this afternoon had supper. Totsch’s have fish fry & dance tonite. Hecker Public School kids had there pinic [sic] at Fort Chartres today, rained a little this afternoon.
