Priests are being Ordained at Cathedral this morn. Cloudy again this morn. Bert [Bertille] washed car. Pap went to Fiedlers farm sale at Burksville. It rained nearly all over yesterday but here, heavy rain out at creek.

Went to Tipton to 75 Diamond Jubliee [sic] & pinic [sic] of parish; we had our dinner there; & tasted sure good wasn’t so much of a crowd; about 15 priests; sure had beautiful quilts. There is a school pinic [sic] at Waterloo, church pinic [sic] at Dupo & Columbia School pinic [sic]. Hecker has bingo party tonite. Leo & family came this eve; Pap went along with them pinic [sic].

Washed, ironed, canned 2 qts. x pt. cherries, so far from our trees, some are to green yet. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary went to Red Bud pinic [sic]. Con. Myerscough was here has pigs for sale. Pap went down to see them & bought 5 for $15.00. Mrs. Rennecker birthday today. Cut lawn. Beautiful weather, warm.

Went out to Henry’s got wheat; pap went in woods got polls for beans in garden. Nice cool this afternoon, baked cookies, cake, cleaned cut lawn etc. Bill [Klein] came got Bert [Bertille] went to there place, see Mr. [Ignatz] Klein.

Cleaned, baked; patched. Pap went to Waterloo to get 25 lbs. purina feed see if we can help our chicks, from dying, they at least eat now, crapo [? – unclear] got something in them, he also attended the funeral of Miss Hattie Grosse & seen Wetzlers also, he was buried at Maeystown & she was at Waterloo church & cemetery, an awful crowd people couldn’t all get in church. Wagners has Buettner, at his parlor now. Pap got mower parts from Eichenseer & fix the mower & cut grass around place & in front of house. Cloudy this eve.

Had Mertz to look at our chicks, dying, terrible. Pap went to Waterloo took 11 bus. wheat along @ 71 [cents] & paid tax $270.94. Terrible thing happened last nite, Waterloo talking this morn. Gus Buettner of Waterloo shot & killed Miss Hattie Grosse & boyfriend Wetzler all of Waterloo, at a lonely spot on Boxtown road, Wetzler & girlfriend & Mr & Mrs. Mitchell were enroute to Boxtown to a dance, when Buettner crowded them of road & shot & killed the couple & didn’t harm Mitchells so far they haven’t got Buettner yet, he wanted to go with Grosse. All police are on look out for him, he was seen driving south through Boxtown after it happened at 10 o clock. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped in went to Red Bud & worked there gardens today. Went to Leo’s this eve. took them plants & we got cabbage plants from her.

Jansen & Nobbe brought the new grass mower out & papa went along took it to Leo’s. $96.80 in trade for his old one, brought that here, pap bought from Leo $21.80. Went to Belleville this afternoon, to church & shopping – pap got new hat, Bert [Bertille] got white shoes. Nice day rain last nite.

Had beef soup dinner. Pap’s birthday 61 yrs. old. Clemens Schlotmann Sr. of Red Bud died will be buried Fri. morn. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & pap went down to see him this afternoon, he just had a stroke 10 o’clock yesterday morn. 69 yrs. they went home & came back again for supper; Henry & family & Leo & family & Bill [Klein] were here this eve. Bert [Bertille] put a piece over radio, German Band for a whole set, birthday. Minnie Staufenbiel, was here wants to go along to funeral Fri. at Red Bud. Ralph Wiegand accessor came this eve.
