It sure is cold, snow on the ground, some spring days. Papa & Henry & Bill Freund went over to East St. Louis, to get a Chev coach for Henry, Papa took the Whippet over so they could put Henry machine or body of his roadster & hauled it home. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came where here for dinner, he paid his tax some thing like $400.00. Rosalia finished her dress today. Jos. Braun’s case is to come off today at court. Walter Koch was buried at Red Bud in afternoon.

Monday, March 20, 1933

It started to rain, so we didn’t wash today. Papa went up town this afternoon. Two of our hens hatched Sat. 14 chicks. It is a real snow blizard [sic] this evening, & cold, we covered our cabbage plants & lettuce. The Ladies Aid had a quilting at George Kammlers today. George Wagner & Joe Watchel where spading there garden today, while it was snowing. Gambach’s & Stifflers case was to come of today in court.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was here for dinner & supper. Aunt Mary & Bertille went to church this afternoon. Hy. Limbach & Baltz was here looked at our mule. Henry & family came up this evening, had supper.

Saturday, March 18, 1933

Papa went to the barber shop this morn. We killed a rooster & going to make soup tomorrow. Henry came up, brought, corn, & crushing, & to get whey. he was here for dinner. Bertille washed the machine. We all went to Red Bud to church this afternoon.

Friday, March 17, 1933

We baked bread, coffe [sic] cake. Papa & Rosalia went to Waterloo with a load of wheat, but didn’t receive no money only a slip of paper, for 14 bus. wheat @ 49¢ $6.86. They got 50 cabbage plants from Jungs for 13¢, they are nice too we planted them out this afternoon. St. Patrick’s Day, but we didn’t plant any potatoes, ground is to wet. It is in the paper for court week this week. Jos. Brauns, business & Hy Armstutz, Gambacher’s, Stifflers, all cases coming on, Philip Meuth & Max Schelibe, foreclosoure [sic]. Barney Kaiser & Elnora Wittenauer & a good many others.

Thursday, March 16, 1933

It is rather cold this morn. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henrys to get oats & wheat. This afternoon they took a load over to Chris Buehler’s & got it crushed. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this evening; she cut Bert’s dress out. Uncle Fred trimed [sic] his peach trees & grub some out. The egg man came today & paid us 10½¢ for eggs. Brauns pays 8¢ today. Some of the banks are opened up again some in Belleville, & Waterloo any way we hear.

Wednesday, March 15, 1933

It froze ice last night. We washed, ironed. Papa sewed clover seed. The Ladies Aid of the Evangical [sic] Church put up two quilts in there church & are having quilting. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up for church this evening, brought sack turnips along. We went to Red Bud to lent devotions. Fr. Feldman had the stations, he is in an awful condition. We fed out little chicks raw potatoes & Alfalfa.

Tuesday, March 14, 1933

We scrubbed brooder house. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, he stayed here for dinner, & Aunt Mary went to Wm. Birkner’s quilting all day. Rosalia finished her dress. Papa sewed clover seed out there & brought a load of wood along, it is all down now what is sowed. We bought 5¢ cabbage seed & Aunt Mary sewed it this morning. Ino Buehler birthday is today. It got dark & cloudy & rained this afternoon. Mar. 9 & 10 are the 40 ridean [? – unclear] days, can have frosts in 40 day from now. We had a real hail storm for awhile, real big ones too.

Papa & Rosalia hauled wood this morning, we cleaned chicken house today. Metzger got there mule today. Henry sold a heifer calf today for $10.00 & his 7 pigs to Kirleis. We went out to Henry’s this evening, Floyd’s 4 yr. birthday, Geodells family, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Bill Freund, cake was served, birthday cake with 4 candles. They say the Waterloo bank aren’t opened yet. Egg man didn’t come, 9 & 11¢.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner. Aunt Mary & Bert went to church this afternoon, Ed Moffitts where there to they where visiting Frank Kroll’s. Mr. Metzger & son from Floraville where here & bought one of four mules $65.00, he made a note on it, & will pay as soon as he gets his cash out of the banks when they open up.
