Cut in 7 qts kraut. Uncle Fred came, Bert [Bertille] went along to Waterloo, with him. Washed ironed this afternoon; cut tomatoes 1 bu. for catsup. Pap dug all our potatoes. Circus at Waterloo today & nite. Walter Pour was here wanted peaches; didn’t have none right now. Pap went down to see Louis Armstutz about lime dust. Eggs 18½ ¢ now.

Canned 5 qts. peaches, 1 tomatoes, cooked catsup. Pap went to Waterloo to get fruit jars; didn’t have them in yet, he stayed all morn. still didn’t come, he is going to deliver them tomorrow. Berniece came said, there was some fish left, if anybody wanted some, at Mertz’s on ice; we don’t want any today. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came this afternoon, he helped put up stands, got 5 chickens – 12 lbs. @ 19¢ for pinic [sic] tomorrow; had watermelon lunch. Nic Schaefer Jr. was here, stopped on way home from Hess sale at Ruma. Gypsy Joe sang song for Mrs. Hess by Agnes today.

Made catsup, canned 3 qts. tomatoes. Went to Red Bud to Beckers Mill got check cashed, got new fan belt put in Chev. $1. went to Paul Crook looking for pigs, but were just delivered this morn. went through Tipton to Pluegers, but he moved last Sat; doesn’t live there any more, moved 10 miles away; went to Waterloo to church. Henry & boys were up this afternoon got wagon; last nite they were at Waterloo big W.L.S. Show at Pautlers Hall; I had forgotten all about it. Send bu. peaches small ones with Henry; pap picked 2 bu. little more. got in mushmellons & 1 watermellon [sic]. Hugo Probst is building new house on his lot, tore the old one away; also J. Kreher’s, Siedle is building that, contract job; but Probst just day labor. J. Reheis, Klein etc. We went over to Geo. Wagners awhile. Mary & Anita were out to. Clif Stahleber had a accident with his motorcycle at Pautlers, back wheel locked through [sic – threw] him quite a distance; hurt pretty bad.

Canned 5 qt. peaches, cooking catsup. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up, she helped clean dishes for pinic [sic] at school hall. Leo & Rose came, he went to the milk meeting in school hall. The Waterloo Home Coming is going to be on Sept. 4 5 6. at the New City Park.

Hugo Radau Orch. of Waterloo played for dance pinic [sic], pretty good musci [sic], yesterday. So hot this morn. Canned 2 qts. tomatoes & pickles, cooking catsup again. Painter is here again. We went to Friedrich at Tipton, looked at his mule, [illegible] he paid his note, from buying the mare last spring. Then we went to Waterloo, paid paint bill at Hamachers & toilet lumber for Henry at Grasses; stopped at Henrys took them some peaches, she has about 150 bottles catsup cooked; also stopped at Emil’s awhile. Went to Leo’s & Rose tonite, took peaches along, canned 2 qts; took plow share along for him; had supper there. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up, cutting lawn. Eggs 17¢ hog $13.50.

Canned applesauce, cooked catsup. Seen in Waterloo paper Roehrkasse manager of Kroger store there, was married last Sun. at St. Louis. Ralph Rausch was best man & her sister.

Rained this morn; stops threshing, for those that ain’t finished yet; still quite a few machines that ain’t done yet. Chris Buehler has sale this afternoon, Starr Auction, just called over lines, all around, had no poster printed, don’t come as high, just to call on lines, Red Bud, Waterlo & all over. Evansville has Catholic Church pinic [sic] today. We went to Buehlers sale, this afternoon pretty nice crowd. Leo & Rose came eve.

Pap went to Waterloo, get crushing done. Painters are here again; Canned 1 qt. pt. tomatoes, cooked catsup. Cloudy and awful warm. Tipton has there church pinic [sic] at Donahue’s now today instead of Paulter’s park at Waterloo, chicken supper 4-8. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary are helping Oscar Birkner’s move today. Grahlerrs moved out Sun; rest of stock yesterday. Hy Birkner moves tomorrow, down at Oscar’s, & Clem Parkers going to move were [where] Henry lives, & also rent the ground there. Henry rents ground from Uncle Fred; he & A. Mary came, we went along to Donahues to church pinic [sic], didn’t win a thing. A. Mary got set of 12 knives & forks, playing bluey. They had to raffle $100 – 1st prize & $35 – 2 prize, selling 5¢ chance & book tickets & $1., & some times sack flour & sugar & beer, Hamacher won case beer at one time; pretty nice crowd. A. Mary bought bowl chicken 25¢, back & necks & wing; we ate it when we got home. They had dance, starting about 10 ‘ o clock, charging 10¢ from gents, ladies free. Hempe musci [sic].

We canned 9 apple sauce, 2 qts. tomatoes & 4 pickles & cooking catsup, & Boy is it hot. Stoeckel painter of Waterloo started painting our house this morn. Billy’s [Willis] 4 yr. birthday today. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came this eve; brought eggs up. are 17¢.

Sure cool morn’s & eve’s & so hot during the day. It is 4 yrs. today A. [Aunt] Lizzie Reheis died. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came, brought wash along, we washed ironed, patched, made chicken dinner, Pap & Leo went to Waterloo with load wheat for Leo, $1.07 bu. then they went to area near Maeystown to look at a plow; but the fellow wouldn’t sell it any more, talked to Metzger’s about a new one. Went down & looked at C. Buehler’s, they don’t know if they want to sell it yet are [sic – or] not, talking maybe start farming again somewhere, Hy. Armstutz came & got coop 36 chicks shipped them to St. Louis.
