Rosalia & Bertille went to church this morn, it was awful cold 10 above, it snowed last night, everything was white. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was here for dinner & then she helped us put the quilt in the frame, & marked some off. Henry was up this morn, & got our 3 pigs & is going to put them to his sow, what just had pigs, they are nice. We started the furnace again yesterday.
Monday, Jan. 23, 1933
Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s & got a hog. We washed, ironed such a nice day; warm. Papa went out in the woods. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up & we went over & helped her quilt, it is finished, took it out of the frame. The egg man paid 11¢ for eggs in the store, they are 9¢.
Tuesday, Jan. 17, 1933
We washed and iron & baked bread today. Papa & Rosalia got a load of oats at Henry’s this afternoon. Cyril & Clarence came down this eve, & got each a bu. oats & sack of hay for 300 for there rabbits. Aunt Mary called up this evening, she was quilting at Henry Birkners today. Ed. Meng was over & paid Uncle Freds int. Mr. & Mrs. Edwin Reheis has a little boy since Dec. 27, they have now a girl & boy. Mrs. Joe Mueth nee Brocs died at 5 o clock this eve. Papa went to town. Miss Martha Boll of St. Louis called out to Geo. Boll’s & congraulated [sic] him on his birthday. Joe Watchel is butchering.
Tuesday, Jan. 10, 1933
We fried down bacon, sugar cured meat. Steve Rennecker came over & collected his telephone dues, $1.50 including drop tax. Steve cut all of his trees down in front of his house. George Wagner hauled them away for firewood. Papa went over awhile. George & Joe Wactel was also there. The Democrat man from Belleville called out to Hills to get some information to put in the paper today on Hecker Default State Bank, about the wreath that has been placed there; in front of the bank door. Mrs. Hill ordered some cottage cheese from Ben Heyl’s they sell it 15¢ pint. Mrs. George Wagner put a quilt in the frame this morning, Mrs. Rennecker helped, Mrs. Watchel also helped to quilt on it this evening. Jerome Cortner was to see Uncle Fred’s but they wasn’t up here, they where at Chris Buehler’s, who is pretty sick, he didn’t come over here. Wagner told him that they wasn’t up today.
Monday, Jan. 9, 1933
We butchered 2 hogs today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Henry where helping, had lunch & dinner. Uncle Fred stayed for supper then we played 5 hand pinochle. Mr. Tecklenburg paid 28¢ for eggs we had 7½ doz; he got some from Mrs. Rennecker too. Mrs. Papenberg called up this evening for a patter for a sunburst quilt, we didn’t have none.
Saturday, Jan. 7, 1933
Papa went up town this morning, they now have another sign put on the bank door this morn. Mrs. Stauenfbiel was over this morn, & wanted to know if we would take a bundle along tomorrow morn. for Felicia. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon, we helped her put a quilt in the frame across street, she wants to quilt next week. Eichenseers said that Frances Kern is getting married today at Belleville, that Lester Bievenner got married last week to a girl from his neighborhood.

We finished our quilt with the border & scallops. It is awful ugly out, windy, rainy. Bertille got the mail, got a Christmas greeting from Mr. & Mrs. Sig. Dudenhoeffer.
Thursday, Oct. 20, 1932
We took our turnips in this afternoon. The Belleville National Bank got robbed of $8 or $10,000 at noon today. It is on 12 West Main St. Bertille was up town this afternoon, spoke a few words with Mamie & Emil. Clarence Wagner came back here again to Eichenseers today, tomorrow he is going to school up here, he says he couldn’t stay there no longer, he didn’t like it. Mamie is making a quilt somewhat like ours, stitched.

Rosalia & Bertille went out to Henry’s, Aunt Mary came to, we put her quilt in the frame & helped quilt, chain. We had dinner & lunch there. Aunt Mary came home with us, & had supper. Uncle Fred went to the line meeting for electric lights at Griffins hall. There line won’t move no posts.

We washed & hung it down the basement, because it started snowing this morn, but turned out to be alright anyway. We finished our quilt & took it out of the frame. Rosalia & Bertille went out to Henry’s this afternoon. He was up in the woods, he hurt his finger, them came back again. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening, then we all went to Louis Armstutz’s. Mrs. Jatho wanted to see them, she wanted to rent there house up here for her daughter Lena, from St. Louis, but they won’t rent it out. We played cards by Louis, 6 & 5 hande[d] pinochle. There was a man here yesterday Chas. Jung of Red Bud & bought 17 doz. eggs @ 9½¢, he takes them over to St. Louis & sells them.
