Raining a little Pap went out with buggy & horse on a trip down to Bert Thompson’s. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came took Bert along, went up to see Leo & Rose awhile, Hennrick of Walsh was there & got a cow, & brought a different one, but they didn’t like it. One of the Divian’s twin babies died at the Red Bud hospital; I seen in the paper, isn’t so much news this week, Winnie Ganley & husband transfer of $1. to Geo Schilling. Mr. Jerome Meng is be sow accessor this year & Ed. Frisch at Henry’s. Thunder tonite & raining.

We washed, ironed, to much snow to hang it out side, but beautiful sunshine again, some of the snow will leave. Pap went to Waterloo, Bert visited at Henry’s awhile. Leo & Rose came we went along to Henry’s, celebrated Floyd’s birthday. Mrs. Adam Buehler died, stroke. She will be buried at Ruma cemetery & mass there on Thurs. Christ & Frank’s. Mary & Katie’s mother. She is at Reumer Bergmann Funeral Parlor at Belleville, she died on Ivo’s birthday; she was pretty well aged 68.

Sunday, March 7, 1937

Went to Red Bud, mass; tomorrow morning is mass for Omer, first time down there now; & on Tues. is two funerals at 8:30 is Len. Wagner 27 from Anna, Clarence oldest brother & Mrs. Kaffai, Mrs. Roy Gregson’s mother, both died of stroke. Mr. Jake Reheis is being buried in Smithton this afternoon. Ben Schilling went along to Denver Col. with his brother in law John Hoeffner, of there; to see the country. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, Bert went along to Reheis funeral at Smithton, church was crowded; he was 74 yrs. old; was buried in concrete house, erected in 1935 for him & his wife & daughter. Christ Buehler was here, looked at his wheat. Emil Ganley came wants the hedge cut in there lane. Uncle Fred went home she [Aunt Mary] went to church, came after her again this eve. had supper here. Sure beautiful day. Leo & Rose went to Annies & Earls Heumann’s at O’fallon; all day. Isi was here this eve.

Raining this morn. We went to Belleville pap went to dentist, it is colder tonite. Eggs 20¢. Jake Orlet, John Mueth * Aug. Kaubrueck stoped [sic] in looking for seed oats, then went to the school house to a Literary Meeting. Belleville speakers 2 of them.

Wednesday, March 3, 1937

Beautiful day. Pap hauled 2 loads wood. Frisch came & got 17 bus. 17 lbs. oats @ 60¢, that is all we are going to sale for awhile. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, he went to L. Birkners, she helped quilt all afternoon, had supper here, she went to church this eve. Fr. Rattermann has the services on Wed. nite. Leo & Rose came down this eve.; she helped quilt. Geo Orlets girl Cecilia was rushed to the Belleville hospital Sun. was operated within half hr. time, had appendix; she isn’t so good wouldn’t let no one in yesterday. Mr. Orlet is out at Leo’s now, helping with the work; last nite Martin Karban, Geo & Emil Helfrich, Jake’s family & Mr. & Mrs. Orlet & Isidore, were all by them; played card; Mr. Orlet stayed out.

Sunday, Feb. 28, 1937

Snowed, icy. We went to Red Bud; Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, she stayed here for dinner, he went to L. Birkners, had supper here; he is still about the same. Vic Eichenseer & fellow from Ruma came, looked at the hourses. Mr. & Mrs. Geo. Bernius, came to see Uncle Fred about getting oats. Al. Geodelle stoped [sic] in paid for 33 bus. 25 lbs. oats @ 60¢. Isd. came & we went to Leo & Rose played cards, Alois & Gertie were also there.

Saturday, Feb. 27, 1937

Snowing lightly all day; Leo & Rose came, him & papa went to Wendell Forness sale at Parrots corner; Leo got jug 15¢. Mr. & Mrs. Forness are going to move to Belleville & son in law Mr. & Mrs. Ed. Schilling. Rose helped quilt all afternoon. Eggs 19¢. Henry got crushing done & stopped in a short while. It was in paper that Mrs. Jul. Rausch found one of her hens had laid an easter egg dark, had yellow band around it. Alois & Gertie came short while, asked Bert to be confirmation sponsor for Thresa [sic] Cortner, at Paderborn on Apr. 5.

Friday, Feb. 26, 1937

Went to Smithton, on business this morn, then went to Leo, pap helped saw wood, also Jake, Isd. & Chas. Mueth Joe Krebs sawed it; had dinner there, sawed about 12 loads. Pretty nice day. It was in the paper that the will of Omer’s was filed last Fri. H. M. Hill, Vic & Odillo Eichenseer as witness, Geo. Schilling executor; there was also a nice memoriam piece in paper put in by friends. Aunt Mary got her pattern that I send for last week. The late Geo. Gregson farm was sold $30. acre, Waldman of Evansville bought the farm; That is Walter & Geo & rest father place.

Thursday, Feb. 25, 1937

Cold, 12 above this morn. Frisch came got load oats, got 90 bus. 20 lbs. @ 60¢. Wm. Doyle got 43 bus. this afternoon. Ed. Weber looked at horses & implements, wants to start Ross out on his farm, he is not living on the farm. Sly. Doyle is in Red Bud hospital pretty sick was operated on appendix, went in Fri. Leo & Rose came took us along, went to see Uncle Fred, he isn’t so bad today, didn’t cough so much anymore.

Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1937

Leona came & Rose helped quilt all day. Pap & Leo & Jake all went to Todds sale on Mrs. Pete Schillings place things bought nice price, large crowd. Henry & boys came this eve. for supper, we played card this eve. Uncle Fred is sick bad cold.
