Raining all day & nite. Cleaned chicken house. Baked cookies. Pap went up town got papers; seen in there that Ed. Brand had wrote a letter to U. Heyl’s, telling them that last Fri. nite, fire destroyed the United paper Stock Co. were he works, but are going to rebuilt again; was quite a big loss. The plans for the new school building in Waterloo is now ready to go to work will cost building & lots & all $150,000. Farm Adv. Hughes to going to leave Waterloo & taken position in Cook CO; by the first of year; Clarence Olendorph had there baby christened last Sun. Charles William – sponsors Mr. & Mrs. William Minnemean. There will be an India Missionary coming to Evangical [sic] church, will speak & also show pictures. Literary Meeting at School house tonite; speaking old age pension. Mr. Ulrich of Smithton formerly the banker was stricken with apolexcy [sic] taken to hospital were there he died.

Raining this morn. We went to Belleville pap went to dentist, it is colder tonite. Eggs 20¢. Jake Orlet, John Mueth * Aug. Kaubrueck stoped [sic] in looking for seed oats, then went to the school house to a Literary Meeting. Belleville speakers 2 of them.

Friday, Dec. 13, 1935

Pap went to the barber, got haircut. Mrs. Hill called up for some sour milk, so Berti took a qt. over & gave it to her. We went to Columbia shopping, Weilbachers gave a shopping bag & nice calendar. Papa got the wheat checks, that is Pabsts $7.13. together. Some people from Mascotah [sic], 3 men looked at the mare, but it was to small they said; Wm. Doyle & Frances Huslasch, was here & got the harrow this evening $6.00. Literary Meeting at the Public school tonite, 4 speakers, talk on bachelors have to pay tax, we didn’t go, the neighbors went. Geo. Orell’s have a baby girl. he is a barber at Waterloo; now has 4 girls.

Thursday, Feb, 12, 1931

Abra. Lincoln’s birthday, also Roy Stauenbiel, there is to be a dance there tonight.  Rosalia is in bed all day, she has the measles the doctor said “he was here this evening & looked at her.  He say’s she is over the worst because they are out now, but she has to stay in bed for 3 or 4 days yet.  She had 103 ½ fever this eve.  He say’s when you can see spots in the back of the throat, then it is measles.  Papa went along with him to the house & got some cough medicine for her.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was up this afternoon.  Aunt Mary & Bertille went to the quilting, there were 4 there.  Papa took 24 doz. eggs to the store and got 12¢ a doz.  Tonight is Literary Meeting in the Public School House.  Speakers are Dr. Bock.  They also wanted A.C. Bollinger but he called out and said “on account of rain, he wasn’t coming.

Mr. Caldwell from Burksville was here this morning.  This afternoon Papa & Rosalia went up in the woods.  It rained a little this morning.  This evening Mamie &  Angela Eichenseer came down & took Rosalia & Bertille along to the Literary Meeting.  The main feature of the evening was music, played by Mr. H.M. Hill with violin, & Greg McCarthy piano, & he also sang a few songs.  Spring-Time in the Rockies & America was sung by the audience.

Henry & family were here all day today.  Henry finished plowing this evening.  Emil was here this afternoon.  We baked molasses cookies today.  There was a man here this evening, he wanted to buy eggs, but we told him we didn’t have any.  Eggs are .29¢ at the store.  Rosalia & Bertille went up to Mamie’s & Angela & then we all went down to the public School House for a Literary Meeting.  Speakers were: H. M. Hill, Wm. Wiegand, Greg. McCarthy.  Mr. Wiegand spoke on prohibition and ruination of the country.  Mr. Hill spoke of Art and Mr. McCarthy spoke of Nature.  Mr. Hill also sang a song & played the violin with it, a war time song.  Today is Annie Reheis Birthday.

Wednesday, Oct. 15, 1930

Bertille cleaned house this morning.  We made some sweet chow-chow this afternoon & also some piccalilli.  One of our white young pullets died today.  Rosalia & Bertille went to church this evening.  Rosary Devotion again.  When we came out of church it just started pouring down raining.  Tonight is also the Literary Meeting down in the Public School House.  Speakers are H.M. Hill, Wm. Wiegand, Dr. Bock from Smithton & Greg McCarthy teacher.
