We washed, hung in basement. Oh! Boy! is it raining, all nite & all day, surely is fine. Mrs. William Klotz is very bad sick, heart trouble. Henry & family came for supper, get tomato plants. Papa took eggs up, got 13¢. Lester Braun’s when going home from work, slipped, & hit the culpirt [sic-culvert], down the road, by Braun’s, he had heard something & looked around, his machine is damaged, the fender is hanging on the tire, Eichenseer’s truck pulled him in; to the garage to get repaired. David Hardy 90 yrs. old died Sat; prominet [sic] land dealer, in & around the vicinty [sic] of Waterloo.

Papa is 56 yrs. old today. Ed Neff has sold his filling station & tools & now he moved to St. Louis were he is employed as a mechanic. On May 12 will be another school election, appoint a new director on Rausch’s place who just resigned. Papa went to Red Bud got chick mash & cement. Mr. Rennecker brought our paper down. Eggs are 12¢. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & family were all up for the birthday, cake, popcorn, beer wine were served.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner here, then went home, Christ Buehler’s went out there this afternoon. Henry & family came, had supper. Leona, baby, Rose & Berti went up to see Mrs. Mertz. We went out to Cleveland’s awhile this evening. We heard Julius Rausch, school director of Hecker, resigned now, they will have to appoint one.

Papa got crushing done. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Berti went to Belleville to a Auction sale, of late Hy. Schoepp, bought all kids thrash, etc. got coat hangers 49-10¢. They had supper here. Henry & Leona left kids here, & went to Belleville brought Bernice Mehrmann along out. George Wagner’s family came this evening. Clarence Wittenauer paid $3.00 balance on ball ground today for last yr. Wagner’s cooked two kettles soap this morning.

Aunt Lizzie’s birthday, 59 yrs. she would be. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped a while before church. Christ Kerns second daughter was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in E. St. Louis to be operated on appendix, but it must have bursted before they could do anything. Miss Ruth Roscow has lost her mind, she stays by Austin McDermott at present, took a walk the other night, all nite, next morning found her by Nic Mueths with McDermott’s dog in the yard; she may be taken to Alton. It rained this morning a good shower. Henry & family, Mrs. Cleveland, & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here for supper after the funeral. Papa took care of the kids, the rest of us went. It surely was a large funeral people from all over, nice day, the church was packed, standing in the back & vestibule, largest ever held in Hecker. Fr. Aydt made a nice sermon. Willie he had to go out of church.

We all went up in woods all day. Robert Laut ordered his hog to butcher on Thurs. We went out to Floyd’s birthday, 5 yrs. old. Aunt Mary & Uncle Fred where the only ones there. Geodell’s was out night before. Henry & Leona went to East St. Louis, got xray taken of her arm.

Henry & family came for dinner & supper. It is a most beautiful day; but roads are muddy, wagons & buggy passing, people went to church. We went to Joe Watchel’s played couple games 5 hand pinochle; cake was served; this evening. Mr. John Birkner, at New Athens passed away this afternoon, will be at his daughters in Bellville [sic], that is Uncle Fred’s brother. Mrs. Louis Birkner is very sick also.

Papa went to Henry’s, then went to Waterloo to the hog meeting, to get finished with that today, we washed. Mrs. Rhennecker has the quilt in there church pinic [sic]. We have 9 pigs born today, it was so cold, they started to get stiff, we called Mr. Rennecker over, & he got them out & brought in the house, warmed up. Mr. Nic Schaefer was here, got papa to sign his paper, that he bought 4 pigs from him on Dec. 5, 1933. Rosalia sewed Floyd a shirt.
Monday, Feb. 19, 1934
Henry & family, here for dinner, went to Bellville [sic], then this afternoon went to the meeting that was to be at the school house, but it was only held this morning, this afternoon at McQuillian’s School. Rose got the mail took eggs along to Eichenseer’s got 14¢.
Sunday, Feb. 11, 1934
Went out to Uncle Freds, dinner & supper. Henry & family, Mr. & Mrs. Louis Armstutz where there, played a few games cards. The ground was all white this morning, & still a snowing, but it turned warmer, & snow all melted away. We went out to Henry’s, fixed the corn & hog question papers out.
