Tuesday, Nov. 19, 1935

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, got there liver sausage & kettle grease; had lunch, we washed, ironed, rendered lard got 3 gals. Papa went in woods. The Y.P.L. has a euchre & dance in Kammler’s Hall tonite. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, then Ros & Bert went along up to the euchre. Uncle was the lucky one, he got prize, a flower vase, had 7 points, we had 6, played 12 games; then danced but Moonlight Orch; the prizes weren’t so nice, pretty nice crowd; Mrs. Milton Wagner won attendance prize. There is also euchre & dance at Paderborn.

Sunday, Nov. 17, 1935

Went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed up for dinner chicken; he & papa went out to Joe Henkel’s to look at the pigs, going to get 2 from him & butcher tomorrow. Leona came brought the kids up, we went along with them to Waterloo to Pautler’s, to the Rythm [sic] Kings, dance new orchestra, Laf. Geoddel Glessmer, & V. Keim, accordion, guitar & drums, sure good & crowd.

Wednesday, Nov. 13, 1935

Papa went up in the woods. Cloudy & smoky weather. Wedding Bells are ringing today at Paderborn for Chas. Daugherty of Mo. & Elvira Haudrich; we went up to the dance, & my what a crowd, she got lot presents, we gave her a dresser scarf; Skaers played for the dance; she wore white satin dress, & all white also veil; her bridesmaids were, Annie Karban & Lorreta Haudrich, dark wine velvet dresses, with hats; & Elmer Karban & Daugherty best men; all dark blue suits; ushers Cryil [sic – Cyril] Haudrich & guy; she was given at the altar by her father. Rosalia went quilting by Geo. Wagners; sunburst quilt. Bernice came & told her, to come over, Pap took chev. to Probst’s got it greased, brakes tightened, 30029 mile. Mr. & Mrs. Alex Katzler of St. Louis have a baby boy born last Fri. Louisa Braun is working there now. Ed Brand is here came this afternoon to Uncle Adam’s.

Sunday, Nov. 3, 1935

Went to Red Bud; Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner here, chicken. Henry & Leona left the kids here & they went to Red Bud hospital to see Mrs. Emil Bestmann, she is pretty good, going home this week; had supper here when they came back. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & we all went to Pautler’s to Bertille birthday dance, & my what a crowd, we danced the first piece Rose & Bertille. Josie Keller & Miss Kuhn came out also, [Josie] gave Bert pair beads, & flower hankerchief [sic]. Cowboys played; & swell time. There was no other dances, except Donahue’s & one in Paderborn, but it was nothing, Paderborn people all at Pautler’s & lot of Hecker; all the neighbors.

Saturday, Nov. 2, 1935

Went to 7 o’clock mass. All Soul’s Day. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had breakfast here. Raining this evening. Bill Haudrich’s of Red Bud is giving a birthday dance at Pautler tonite Cowboys of Rythum [sic]. Adm. gents 25 ladies free; dances all over tonite.

Sunday, Oct. 27, 1935

Raining all morning. Went to church, took Helfrichs along, he gave us ½ gal. molasses; & Boy it is good. Henry & family came all day, had dinner & supper. We went to a free dance at Oak Grove tonite, wasn’t much, Cowell’s Orch. played. Birkners didn’t get to town today, to much mud she said; & still a raining.

Sunday, Oct. 20, 1935

Mission. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile after church; going to Frank Birkner’s pear peeling tonite. We had backbone soup. Went to Henkels this afternoon to look at hogs; went over to Burksville, to Kruse’s, Edlers place, & to McCarthy’s by mistake, they also had shooting match, we tried twice, on a goose & turkey, but didn’t get none; came through Waterloo home, The Hecker base ball team giving a dance at Kammler’s tonite Moonlight Orch; I don’t think it was much. Adm 25¢; we didn’t go, went to bed early. Lady here wanted eggs.

Thursday, Oct. 17, 1935

Nice day. Papa worked in woods this morning hauled load home. Henry came brought load corn, also brought one last Sat; he plowed here had dinner; papa sewing rye. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, worked across the street. Renniecker girl of Ruma & boy of Evansville are being married at Ruma first wedding in the church since 7 years. John Myerscough’s were up last nite from Ruma also; at the dance, there is to be wedding dance in the hall there to nite. Dorthy Myerscough is going to college far away & Margaret to Ruma convent, so the only got 1 girl at home Flo & she goes to Red Bud High school. Bernice brought the mail. We went up to see Uncle Adam & Emil, he can walk a little on his foot again now. Kammler’s were out & Clara came over & got the lard, 75 lbs. It rained this evening, nice shower.

Wednesday, Oct. 16, 1935

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, she Rose & Berti went to the Wedding mass 9’oclock, quite a few people there. Wittenauer, Eichenseer, Ethel Pour flower girl in pink, & Bud Eichenseer ring bearer; then Mamie as maid of honor, in pink dress, hat & shoes, flowers, then Mary Wittenauer bridesmaid in all green outfit, then the bride in white with veil, in the arm of her father Vic; the groom & his attendants Ray Wittenauer & Odillo as Usher, all enter in sanctuary; had wedding supper for about 50 relatives; this evening gave the dance at Kammlers Hall to friends, served cake, had 400 pieces cake cut, they said; no slipper sold nor collection. Baseball club presented them with a baby blanket, as a present we gave them a berry set; the hall was crowded, & she received many presents, Moonlight Orch; march through hall first, then danced; all different couples. going to move to St. Louis, where he is employed as coal & ice hauler. Clara Wagner came got her hair set. Papa hauled load wood. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this evening for the dance.

Sunday, Oct. 13, 1935

Went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped here a little after church, most beautiful day; so warm. We went to Oak Grove to a free dance; nice time, large crowd; Blossom City played. Wm. Kaufmann of Waterloo was here, to see about a paint job.
