Monday, Sept. 19, 1932

Mr. Willie Ganley was here this morning, but papa was at the molasses factory, so he walked down there. Mr. Chas. Fleckestine passed away Sat. & will be buried this afternoon, leaving the house at 2 o’clock, then to the cemetery,  Hecker, with services at the home. We cleaned the chicken house put straw, in the nests. We shocked & cut our corn all this morn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening, they brought potatoes for Braun’s, they stayed a little while. George Boll came & looked at our cow & calf, he has one he might trade. Henry & family where up got whey & tomatoes. Mrs. Kock invited her, & all of us to come to Coxeyville to her birthday dance Oct. 6.

Tuesday, Sept. 13, 1932

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon. Mr. Jung got 18 doz. eggs 16¢ this eve. We shocked & cut 2 rows corn. We went over to Aunt Mary’s this eve. George Wagner’s family came over too. Today is Ed. Parker’s birthday.

Friday, Sept. 9, 1932

We all went out to Henrys corn patch took dinner & lunch along, us 3 cut 18 shock. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening. Bertille went up & got the mail. It was pretty warm this afternoon & cool in morn. & nite. Aunt Mary made some butter for us, here this eve.

Wednesday, Sept. 7, 1932

Miss Bell is 63 yrs. old today. Jung the egg man was here & got 39 doz. eggs at 15¢. Papa cut corn on Uncle Fred’s place, & then he got some whey, 2 barrels for Henry. We are cooking catsup, canning some 4 qts, & 7 qts & 4 pints saurkraut [sic]. We have the cans all filled now. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s to cut corn there. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up again this afternoon. Shcinder is plowing here. Jung was here & cashed his check.

Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1932

The groundhog didn’t see his shadow today so we have spring weather. We went to Red Bud to Hellmers funeral this morn. George Wagner came over when we came home & told us Leona was ringing for us. Steve was over this afternoon awhile. Henry brought a load of corn up & took his oats along home. The Ellis Grove Bank was turned over to Chester last Sat. Steve was here again this eve. we played pinochle. Leslie Siebert the Eddleman Bread driver this morn. tried to fire the furnace at his home with gasoline & he caught on fire, his hands, & clothing where burned severely.

Thursday, Jan. 14, 1932

Frying down bacon today. It is real spring weather doors open. Eggs are 12¢ at Eichenseer’s some price. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up this afternoon. Uncle Fred went to Red Bud, & she stayed here. Hy. brought a hog up here & took some more of his oats along home. Ed Pabst brought the last of our corn today. We went up to Mamie’s, looked at quilts & such like & this evening. Not very long ago Pete Watchel had some of his fruit stolen out of cellar.

Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1932

We washed, hung it in the basement, it rained all day. Loyd Pbast [sic-Pabst] brought a load of corn & also Henry brought one this morn. Papa went up to Vic Eichenseers & sugar cured there meat for them. It was warm yesterday & today again.

Saturday, Jan. 2, 1932

Joe Hilpert & friend here for dinner from Belleville. Roy Stauenfbiel brought our sack of crushed corn down this evening.

Tuesday, June 9, 1931

Papa is going to take the truck to Bill Fristche’s & get the bor fixed on it.  We are washing today.  Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s & got the last load of corn.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for lunch.  Papa, Rosalia, Bertille, Aunt Mary went down & cleaned the cemetery this evening.  There where 2 weddings last Sat. from Hecker, Harold Dueker married a girl from St. Louis, & Edwin Reheis married Florence Voges.

Saturday, Dec. 13, 1930

Papa got crushing down this morn.  Rosalia & Bertille baked Christmas cookies this afternoon.  Mr. Ed. Pabst was here this morning and brought a load of corn 12 bus. from the place down there.  Papa went up in the woods.  There is to be some kind of play party down at Hepp’s tonight the way we heard.
