Rose & Berti went to Red Bud got things, flour mash & fruit jars 2 doz. 75¢ ap. Canned peaches all day, 17 qts. Henry & family came, kids stayed here & they went to Belleville, had lunch here. Rain today again, this evening, every day so far this week it rained; heavy at Belleville & Athens. Mascoutah had a terrible storm the other day, no decent tree left any more, some were saying. Harold Wagner had a automobile accident Sun. night at Athens some one ran into him, without lights, machine is being repaired at Smithon [sic] garage. We went over to Renneckers awhile.

We peeled peaches & canned 4 qts this morning. It rained again nearly all day. A fellow from Belleville was here, wanted to sell limestone, for Columbia & Valmeyer quarries. Mrs. Cleveland’s birthday. The timber guy from St. Louis, came brought the check for the piling they cut Fri. & Sat. 868 ft. @3½¢. $30.38; it is the Manassa Timber Company. Clara Wagner & kids came over this evening awhile.

Finished patching, baked blackberry pie; got 42½ pt. sour kraut canned. Rose & Berti went out to Henry’s, canned beans, she claims hers don’t keep what she canned; also canned beets; & ironed for her. Uncle Matt & boys were here, he wanted to take him out in his woods to see how those fellows were making piling, 3½ ft. thought maybe papa would let them make some in our woods too. Rose took lawn mower to Fritsche got the handle fixed on it; then we cut lawn. Pap started painting chick house.

We washed, ironed. Papa went out to Henry’s set up schocks [sic]. Robert came along & helped to, had dinner & lunch. Then we all went blackberry picking, got about 3 gals. gave them some & also Aunt Mary, we canned 2 qts & made jelly. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, she had her dress by Minnie & got something fixed over on it. Isd. Helfrich brought the coal for threshing had 58 bus. half here & the other out there. Our little pussies died papa buried them this morn. Eggs 19¢.

Papa went out to Henry’s again help with the oats. We cut in 2 gals. & 10 qts. cabbage this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up; him & Rose went out to Henry’s, helped put binder in shed, is finished for this year. Ignat Mosbacher stopped to see papa but he wasn’t home. We cut lawn, pulled peas out, picked beans, canned, 1 qt.

Henry & papa went to Red Bud to see Ratz. Baked cookies canned 5½ qts beets & 1 can beans; had chicken dinner. There was a car went by just like a train, from Hollywood; Motion Picture Studio. was very pretty. an airplane flew south west real low this morn. Papa went out to help Henry cut oats again, the Whip. stopped coming home on the other side of town, he called for Rose to come, pull him in now it works again. had lunch out there. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, she & Berti went over to Minnies Staufenbiels, tried her dress; they had lunch here, & she went back over there again. Celestine Neff is working for Mrs. Mertz taking care of the baby Mrs. she is help out in the store, when the mail comes in.

Predigar is being buried at New Athens Catholic church & cemetery from the home of his grandmother Weber’s. Steve Renneckers Agnes Gregson’s birthdays today. We went berry picking after lunch got about 7 gallon’s; gave some to Henry’s & Aunt Mary. had dinner at Henry’s. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, had lunch here. We canned 2 qts berries & made the rest in jelly. Rose & Bert went to Mamie’s this evening, went sightseeing through town. Ivo Buehler was brought home from the hospital today, is pretty good.

We all went up dewberry picking this morn. got 6 gallons, had our baskets all filled, canned 9 qts.; cold packed, & rest in jelly, 12 glasses so far; & 5 pts. peas, also cold packed. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, he went to Waterloo; Clara Wagner came over a little, tell us about canning peas. Rain again, in showers, & awful cold, north wind. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were at Belleville Sat, to see Ivo, he was pretty good talked quite a bit. Papa got skim milk yesterday, made cheese today.

We washed, ironed; canned 4 qts pumpkins. Nic Helfrich hauled coal here, 73 bus; $5.97 & hauling charges $2.10 he joined the truck code, that is for hauling for others, paid so much code. The Monroe Hatchery has a free chick disease demonstration this afternoon at Waterloo. Eggs are 26¢; top market on hogs $8.30 highest this far. Oliver Probst 52 of Belleville died will be buried, tomorrow afternoon Floraville Cemetery. Wm Probst of here, his brother.

Papa & Rosalia went out, got a load wheat & got it crushed. Henry & family went to Waterloo sell the rest of the beef. Our hogs were out, George Wagner told us about it. A guy around selling household articles, we didn’t buy anything; we canned 2 qts beef, made soup rest for roast, awful warm today again. Lena Meng was over wanted some beef for tomorrow, but we had none here either. Dances everywhere again tonite, at Brezzy Hill a electric radio is given as attendance prize, Moonlighters playing. Adm. 25¢. Herb. Bertram was the lucky one. Hunting season opens today.
