Monday, Sept. 20, 1937

Washed ironed, patched, etc. dug sweet potatoes 4 bus. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were here for dinner, he fixed chimney all day. Canned 1 pt. tomatoes. Beautiful day, but it is awful dry no rain for quite awhile. Harry Wittenauer stopped in, papa wanted to see him about cutting hay.

Sunday, Sept. 19, 1937

Went to Red Bud; Fr. prayed for the sick of the parish. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came had dinner here, brought samples of apple butter, tastes pretty good; they went out to Henry’s this afternoon, get haircut. Floraville have church pinic [sic] & annual home coming today. there is Holy Name Society Rally held at Mascoutah today, for all parishes. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came about 3:30 o’clock, Bert [Bertille] went along to Floraville pinic [sic], till about 9 came home again, didn’t win nothing raffled 7 quilts, went to Waterloo, Millsdadt [sic], Belleville & St. Louis.

Saturday, Sept. 18, 1937

Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came, she went along to Belleville, went to dentist, should come back again next Tues. A. Mary got new hat. Henry came brought 2 sacks potatoes along went to get crushing done. Pap went down to see Hy. Feruer. U. [Uncle] Fred said was some people here to look at mule. Etling [sic] was here.

Friday, Sept. 17, 1937

Pap went to see Con. Myerscough, made a trade he brought 2 horses & $15. booth & got our mare Babe this afternoon. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up this afternoon. Bert [Bertille] made 2 qts & 2 pts. mince meat; 1 pt. tomatoes & pickles, cooked catsup. Paul Wittenauer stopped in, he now drives the bakery wagon, thought maybe we would buy from him, baker loop [?]; bread. Wheat 97¢ in paper.

Thursday, Sept. 16, 1937

Bert [Bertille] went to Leo’s cooked apple butter; mother [Leo’s mother] & A. [Aunt] Mary came this afternoon; she got 16 gals. Tolin looked at stock. Eichenseers hauled in 200 bu. coal.

Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1937

Pap went to barber shop. Bert [Bertille] baked cookies. Mr & Mrs Clyde Pautler nee Arma Marie Parker, have a little baby girl born last week; also Ed Coop have baby boy; Else Pautler formerely [sic] & Willie Kreheres have baby girl. Ida Schinerbach marriage license was announced on radio last nite. We went to Leo’s this afternoon had lunch & supper peeled apples afternoon & evening Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & Isd. & mother came yet to & helped 34 gals. we peeled. Fr. Joe’s birthday 34.

Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1937

Bert [Bertille] went out to Henrys got damson plums, canned 8 qts. & cooked jelly; caned [sic] peaches, the last now, have them all picked, cooked catsup; planted out flowers etc. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up. Luhrs Hatchery man & Geo Luhr. were here pap had bought a second hand feeder but he found out it, wasn’t much good so they bought a French Feeder, $34.75 better than the other, rain won’t hurt it any. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came want to peel apples tomorrow nite; for them & Orlets.

Monday, Sept. 13, 1937

Washed, ironed etc. Leo & Rose came. he let the young black mare $90.00 home & pap rode the bay mare; they bought the block was down last nite looked them over. J. Zipfel of Red Bud stopped in. Report is Manda is somewhat better, she was very low Sat. afternoon.

Sunday, Sept. 12, 1937

Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stayed awhile, had pumpkin pie. We went to Orlets this afternoon, went to New Hanover looked at pig self feeder at Geo. Lehr’s, pap bought one $17.00 delivered; we had supper by them. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came Bert [Bertille] went along to Totsch’s paderborn free dance & fish fry. music by Jake Schoenborn, Clemence Rheinhardt & Ray Geodelle & Gerhardt, Skaer’s are out, had fallen out last nite at Floraville, on account of the trial that Schoenbrook Bill Rehling had, Skaers held up for Rehling had a big crowd there. Hecker also had baseball dance, not so hot Schmidt played; not many people there, some left & came up there.

Saturday, Sept. 11, 1937

Went to Belleville dentist. Bert [Bertille] got new black dress $1.99 they have street fair there yesterday & today, square is all decorated Ferris wheel, merry go around dance floor etc. Pap went to Bozzays. Sure cool nights. Maniers have fish fry tonite also dance at Floraville. Oliver Kammler & Lulu Ackerman were married at Louisville Ky. last Tues; are now making there home with J. Kammler’s his parents; he is employed now as hucstere [unsure – could be huckster] around town. Rob & Olive Laut are digging potatoes today here. Mrs. Jake Orlet is improving; she was very ill, the appendix was already broken when they operated; last mon. morning. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] were in to see here Wed. but not long no visitors allowed.
