Went to mass, new pastor Fr. Spors, about 45 pretty nice man. Leo & Rose came down for dinner brought truck back. This afternoon Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & J. [Josie] Keller came, all had supper here, went fishing this afternoon had fish fry, sure good. Bert [Bertille] went along home with Leo & went to free dance at Totsch at Paderborn, Skaers playing; Boy was this town hot on firecrackers, & what a noise, 3 days. We had nice rain this afternoon.

Beautiful day. little cloudy. Nic Hess started threshing today; that is Joe. Schillings, both threshing same time, like always. Henry is helping at Geo.. Our cistern is nearly dry, time for rain. Lot of cars out for holiday; tomorrow & Mon. Bert [Bertille] baked apple pie. Geo. Wagners came over awhile this eve.; Lightening & thunder tonite.

Uncle Matt stopped and boy’s, wanted to see pap about cutting trees in the woods, some people cut in his, & he was satisfied, thought maybe he wanted to let them cut in ours to. Rosalia came wanted pap help make hay. We went this morn. had dinner, lunch & supper. Mr. Orlet & Isd. came yet had lots help. Geo. Schilling started threshing this afternoon. We got card was invited to Red Bud to installation of new pastor Fr. Spors, Wed. eve. & Thurs. eve, got card to late, was all over already.

Ruma convent has big day. Sisters renew there vows & get the habit some of them. Rosalia Kern is one Chris Kern’s daughter of Red Bud. Bert [Bertille] went to Wagners awhile. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up this afternoon. Mehrmann got 9 doz. eggs @ 17¢. Edwin & Fritz Reheis finished the hay today. We had 1st. spring chicken 1¾ lb. enough for 2 meals for us. Bert. varnished dining room floor. Pap hauling straw.

Beautiful day, cool this morn. Uncle Adam gets buried this morn. 9 o’clock mass, church & cemetery here. Leo & Rose came, we went along with them to Uncle Adam’s funeral; pretty large, but still a lot of people that weren’t there; to busy time right now, with threshing coming on. Rose & Bert [Bertille] had to say 10 Hail Mary’s before leaving, didn’t have time to recite the rosary they said. Pallbearers were Ed. & Emil – sons & Joe & Levi Gregson brother in laws & Lester & Lee grandchildren; something different. Henry came got some boards. Edwin & Fred Reheis are putting up hay here. Pretty cool evenings the last while. The Bishoff [sic – Bishop] has appointed new priests to take different places today; Red Bud has a get together of parish tonite. Fr. Spors from Johnston City is coming to Red Bud, & Fr. Havey is going to Johnson City. Waterloo is Underkoefler from West Frankfort, & Paderborn is also having a newly ordained one as assistant to Fr. Toennis; who is ill.

Worked in garden; went up seen Fr. Aydt; masses said for Uncle Adam; Uncle Fred is working up here again this morn. Rained a little this afternoon. Edwin Reheis looked at the hay. To see if it would be dry enough by tomorrow. Went out to Uncle Adams; so many people there, in & out. Ed came this afternoon by train; Carrie is coming in about 10 days; were he works they send a big bouquet flowers; & children bought 1, has quite few mass cards. Josie Keller & Ella Miller were also out; Mr. & Mrs. Jac Schmidt.

Washed, ironed, patched. Edwin Reheis cut oats here, he bought it from C. Buehler; also cut hay from pap. Uncle Fred was up early, working his corn patch. A fellow here, wanting to buy timber, pap went along out to the woods with him. Levi Gregson stopped told us Uncle Adam passed away at 6:20 this morn; just had stroke & passed out. he was 88 yrs. old in May. We went out this eve. have him already in coffin at the home, never moved him at all; looks so natural & young, quite a few people stopped in. Heyl’s of Waterloo were out, Ed isn’t up yet, coming tomorrow sometime, sent him a telegram. Emil says to close up at 11 o clock, no body stays all nite, just them, at 11 everybody was gone home, just him & girls. Joe & Josie went home to.

Bert [Bertille] went to Mamie’s went to ballgame awhile. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came took Bert along to Breezy Hill to Simon Miller’s & Buettner Wedding dance, Dream Time Trio furnished musci [sic]; large crowd & nice time. Vic Papenberg & car from New Athens had collision at the corner, the other car passed on wrong side, damaged the truck & car, no one hurt; Joe McCarthy, deputy Marshall, was at Boxton Sat. nite; camp guys started in fighting, he wanted to part then & keep peace, fellow pulled out a revolver & shot him at the shoulder, came out below the shoulder blade, he is at home, getting along well if no blood poison will set in; pretty hard for the guy, that did the shooting he is in the pen; at present time. There is also 4 boys from Red Bud in Chester pen for stealing by Jac. Erle’s. South of Red Bud. Mr. Erle caught them in the house, stealing money out of a dresser drawer.

Canned 3½ qts. berries & baked 2 pies. Went to Belleville, dentist & church. Uncle Fred was up early this morn, working corn, before it got to hot. There is a a free farewell dance at Oak Grove tonite, he is going back to Burksville again. Alois & Gerti stopped wanted to take me [Bertille] long to New Athens, didn’t go.

Painted kitchen floor. Uncle Fred, stopped went to Red Bud with load wheat. We went to Rosalias for supper, picked berries; Mr. Orlet is also there, he helped cut wheat.
