Rosalia drove out to get Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary. Henry came up and then they all worked on the sewer again. They got it finished about 4:30. Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary, Henry were all here for dinner and two lunches. Leona & the kids didn’t come along. Today is Irene Neff’s birthday. She is going to be seventeen years old. In the evening Rosalia, Papa, Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary went to the cemetery. After they came back Rosalia, Bertille went to church, Aunt Mary too.

Today is Uncle Adam’s birthday. He is going to be 81 years old. It is raining again a little this morning. Rosalia went out to Uncle Fred’s this morning and brought Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary along back with her. They were here for dinner & two lunches. Henry & family were all here too for dinner and two lunches. Papa, Uncle Fred, Henry, dug up the sewer this morning. It was blocked up but it didn’t come through yet, so they will have to work another day if they didn’t get finished today. Mr. Hill was over a little while. Rosalia took 4 doz. eggs to the store & got .19¢ a dozen.
Mr. George Heyl got killed this afternoon. The way we heard Mr. George Heyl had been to the stockyards and when he was coming home he got killed between Smithton and Hecker in that creek bottom by Grohman’s. He ran out of gas and went to the neighbor’s house to get some, when coming back a machine struck him and killed him. There is so many tales out, that you don’t know which was the right. Henry Gambach found him laying on the road when he came back from St. Louis.

It is raining this morning. Today is Dorothy Napier’s birthday. She is going to be 12 years old. Papa went to New Athens this morning and got some tilining. This afternoon he went to Waterloo to get the Whippet repaired. He got the chive greased last Saturday. Joe Meuth was here this morning on business. Yesterday the Hecker and Smithton ball players played together. Hecker won. Calvin Mcarthy got hurt. Papa, Rosalia, Bertille went out to Aunt Mary’s this evening a little while.

Papa & Bertille went to first mass this morning. It rained a little, it is supposed to rain seven Sundays because it rained on Easter Sunday. Today is Olivia Laut’s birthday. Papa, Rosalia, Bertille, Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary went to the play and dance at Kammler’s hall. The name of the play is “What Happened to Braggs.” It was 3 acts. That that were in the play are: Milton Wagner, Ralph Rausch, Henry Wieg and Ralph Wiegand, Henry Spalt, Karl Ball, Alvera Jatho, Marcella Ettling, Eunice Blackburn, Flossie Kammler. They had the play in the afternoon too.

Today is Papa’s birthday, he is 52 years old. Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary, Henry & family were all here. Uncle Fred brought his accordion along. Music, ice cream, cake, cookies, lemonade were had. Papa was at Waterloo today.

Today is Mrs. Joe Wachtel’s birthday. Rosalia went up to church this morning. It rained last night, thundered and lightin’, hail & wind, but it didn’t do no damage as far as I know. Papa went up to the school this morning again, today he wanted all the men from the congregation to come to help pour cement. Miss Lela & Ethel Deuker (sp?), the school teachers, took their school children to Fort Chartre yesterday in Lester Gregson’s truck for an outing. They had wiener roast, ice cream. There were about 50 children. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here this afternoon. Uncle Fred went up to work at the new school. They stayed at our house for supper. Bertille went over to Mrs. Frank Birkner this afternoon & brought her some tomato plants from Aunt Mary. Bertille took 3 dozen eggs to the store, got .20¢ a dozen.

Henry was up this morning. Rosalia and Bertille washed, ironed, scrubbed the basement today. Papa worked up at the new school all day. In the evening Rosalia, Bertille, Aunt Mary went to church. Joe Grossheim’s have a new chevrolet sedan. There are a lot of trucks hauling brick for the new school from Red Bud up here. Those that hauled today were: Eichenseer’s, Roth’s, Schilling’s, Lorberg’s, Gambach, Pabst, Klein’s, Helfrich’s, Brauns. Our hens are hatching today.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here today for dinner and supper. Uncle Fred and Papa worked on the building of the new school today. Bertille was uptown this morning. We started painting our chicken house today. Mrs. Rheinecker was over and looked at our garden a little while this morning. Mrs. Frank Birkner was over this afternoon to get some tomato plants that Aunt Mary brought up for her. Aunt Mary & Rosalia, Bertille was over a little while this evening looked at her quilt that she’s got in the frame for Margaret Dudenhoeffer. Bertille took 4 doz. eggs to the store, got .20¢ a dozen. She got some cough syrup. Bertille has an awful bad cough. Some of the men were hauling the brick for the new school today from Red Bud. The brick came from Chester and Murphysboro. Today is Buddy Napiers birthday. Dorothy called up here and wanted to know if Aunt Mary was up here. We told her yes. She invited them to come down there this evening to the dance. But we are not invited for that. Frank Birkner’s wife had lunch with us this afternoon.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here for dinner and supper. Uncle Fred & Papa worked up at the school building. Bill Haudrich & a sales agent were here this evening trying to sell all kinds of stuff. Rosalia & Bertille & Aunt Mary were at Louis Birkner’s a little while this evening. We looked at her garden then Haudrich and that sales agent came there. We bought a few things from him. A box of face powder, perfume, cream, lice and insect powder. Henry came up this evening, he got a letter from Bollinger in charge of Philip Braun, to pay a bill amounting to $21.90.

Uncle Fred is helping to work on the new school. Aunt Mary was here all day. Uncle Fred came down here for dinner and supper. They both ate with us today. Aunt Mary and Rosalia were sewing a dress. Henry came up this afternoon to get some sour milk. Werner Kammler has a new Chevrolet truck. Today was eclipse of the sun. Bertille was down at Louis Armstutz this morning and this afternoon, got a dress pattern and returned it again. Bertille took 4 dozen eggs to the store, got .21¢ this morning and this afternoon, Uncle Fred took 10 dozen there and got .20¢ a dozen.
