We washed, ironed. Rosi finished the quilt. Steve Rennecker was here, wanted to know if we leave our sugar cured hams, in the smoked house. Burdgforf of Red Bud stopped, went out to Henry’s, bought his heifers & cow $110. Mr. Geo Reheis is sick, has heart trouble. Was from 11 to 21 below zero in St. Louis, this morn; supposed to be continued colder. We made ice cream; & Boy! it does taste good by all the cold weather.

Pap got crushing done; Henry & boy’s came up to. Pap, Steve Rennecker, Rob. Laut went to Pete Dehn’s sale, everything was high price, they said; Burdgorf was here looked at the cattle. Steve got 5¢ milk tonite. Joe Manier’s got fish fry tonite. Henry was saying, John Kern is in jail, scraping with Mosio; took our quilt out of the frame today. Rose & Berti name went over the radio today, but they didn’t say requested for Aunt Mary’s birthday, Jimmie & Dick played. Mexican Trail; The German Band, played one for a lady at Evansville this afternoon; Sure got good program tonite from Dismoinies [sic – Des Moines] Iowa; lot of good riddles & jokes.

We butchered, 1 & Uncle got 1, Henry helped [unclear]. Hy. Armstutz shot them; Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile in eve. Klein Bros. got the sow & pigs; An alarm ring went over the lines that sales agents were going around, they were warned by 5 coustmers [sic] to be on the look out, before signing any contracts, to read them over careful; Awful cold wind today. S. Rennecker also butchering.

Went to church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary made a short call. Louis Birkner’s family of New Athens were visiting them today. At 11:30 today report came to Mrs. Renneker, that Peter Dehn’s house was on fire, he was at the house at the time, looked out the window & seen fire on the lawn, he called for help, saved a few things, & house burned to the ground, old one & new one, the wind was so high, it carried sparks over to Owen Fahey’s hay shed & that started burning from the bottom, but they got it out & plows around it, Steve & Gus Klotz & papa went over to help this afternoon roads are terrible muddy. Stutz & Keller of Near New Athens looked at the horse, said they see us later.

Pap & Rose went out to do Henry’s feeding. Nice sunshine day. Rose went out this evening again. Henry is home tonight, Floyd stayed with him; Rob came along here again. Leona is pretty good, wants to come home; maybe by Sat. Our line telephone 18 has meeting at Renneckers tonite; pap went over paid dues, & elected officers.

Went to Red Bud. Snowed all night; Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile, finished the ice cream, that we made last night, but was to much, couldn’t eat it all yesterday, enough left for each a dish this morning. Steve Rennecker got 1 qt. milk wanted to make pumpkin pie today he said. We all went out to Uncle Freds had dinner & supper. Rob Knabe was out at Oscar’s from there he came here, so papa & Uncle Fred went home; papa sold the cow & calf to him for $65.00 to get it after the 1st. Fr. Aydt wasn’t at all satisfied this morning with the Christmas Collections, not enough; A Christmas party was held at the home of Henry Meyer at Belleville & there it was announced the engagement of Miss Dorthy Meyer to Odello Eichenseer of Here to be wed in the near future; she is employed at Endres Motor Sales Co. Mr. Karl Kammler 26 of Belleville & Mamie Roth 20 Mascoutah license were published, were married Christmas Day; at the Evangical [sic] Church in Mascoutah, the attendants being Alf. Kammler a brother & Anita Funk a cousin of the bride; the bride wore brown crepe dress & assessories [sic] to match, bridesmaids wore blue. going to make there home with the groom parents Mr. & Mrs. John Kammler of 712 Forest Ave; they also had the wedding supper there to which intimate friends & relatives were present. Mr. Fred Rothaug 38 – Miss Ida Bechtoldt 42 of Belleville, were married, she is Mrs. Geodelle’s cousin.

Pap got crushing done. Mr. Rennecker got 1 qt. milk for 5¢. Mr. Kettler of Paderborn was here, looked at the mare, pap went to see his this afternoon, also went to Knab’s. Henry & Leona went to Belleville left the boys here they went skating on the pond. Pap took chev. to Probst’s got a new battery put in $7.00 & fan belt put on 65¢.

We washed, ironed. Papa went to see Con Myerscough & stopped at the butcher in Red Bud. Hempe Bros. of St. Joe was here looked at the horse & cows. Nice day we washed windows. Mr. Rennecker came over & got qt. milk for 5¢. One of our heifers is sick.

Leona brought the boys up, stayed all day, dinner & supper. Henry got them this eve; the beef didn’t sell so good, to many going around town with beef; we took 11¾ lbs; had roast for dinner. Made cream pies today. We went to Renneckers this evening, played 4 game pinochle, his brother Jake of Belleville was also there, visiting for several days. Pat May is having a free dance at Donahue’s tonite.

We all went up in the woods, took dinner along, but it started in to rain, came home at 12’o clock, rained all afternoon. Berti baked cookies; & we put quilts together; have the “Goose Track” all set together & border on; now started the stitched one. Bernice Wagner came, selling chances on a turkey to be raffled out on Dec 24. at the Public School House, we took 1, 10¢ each kid has 20 chances to sell – 3 – 25¢. Pierre Laut was also here, but we can’t take chances from all of them. Mr. Geo Dehn of Ellis Grove died at 3:20 this afternoon, he was ailing for quite awhile, had 3 pralatic [sic – paralytic] strokes. Mrs Rennecker’s brother.
