We butchered 1 hog & Uncle Fred; 240 lbs got it from Geo. Parker’s, the top is $10.35 today, on radio. Henry family helped. A fellow here wanted to sell rugs. Adolph Schaeffer & John stopped, brought the grindstone & table here. Steve Rennecker butchered today also. Eggs. 28¢. Awful nice day, ground sloppy.

Pap got hair cut. We went to Waterloo to Schaeffer’s sale got a few articles, grindstone, table cook pot etc. Annie is working in St. Louis. Jos. Keller came out, was at Lizzie Boll’s all afternoon; came here to play cards tonite. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came & Henry’s family, had a six hand game. Beautiful nite. Leona got the coal oil stove at Schaeffers sale $4.00, four burner.

Pap went in woods all day. Rose & Berti went out to Henry’s went along to E. St. Louis with them got permanents at Esther Beauty Shop on Sinclair Ave. for $2.50 a piece, pretty good so far. We got bu. apples for $1.25 willow twigs. Pete Hoffmann is in St. Louis hospital pretty sick, they say; we went shopping at E. St. Louis. stores this afternoon, met Maggie Grassheim & Pour brothers over there.

Went out to Henry’s butchering, had lunch & dinner. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary helped to, was a pretty big one. Eggs are only 29¢. Chas. Helfrich came got slip paper for that he got clover seed here. We got weighed, Rose 152, Leona 125, U. Fred 160, Berti 114 & Billy [Willis] 40. Mrs. Hy. Burdorgf butchers wife of Red Bud was buried last Fri. afternoon.

Pap & Rose went to Henrys got load oats. Pap & Berti went to Waterloo this afternoon, got last of benifit [sic] wheat AAA check $22.91. Pap got his measurements taken by Peiper for a new suit for Christmas. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, we played 5 hand pinochle, listened to radio.
Monday, Dec. 7, 1936
It is 12 above zero this morning, quite a change. We washed. Rose sewed. Pap took the chev. to Probst had him to look it over, it can stand zero he said. Henry & Leona went to Belleville left Billy [Willis] here, went in about 9:30 came back at 4 o’clock. Pap went to Bolstead bought sow & 5 pigs 4 weeks old for $17.00. Bertille went to Mertz’s store, looked for mail & she won the fruit cake, for 4¢ push the name Belle & that won the cake, some luck, it is 98¢ cake, looks good. We had no street lights for awhile this eve. alright now. Eggs 31¢ now.

Went to mass. Pap took his budget envelope back he put in $5.00. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had breakfast with us, then went home. Leo came this afternoon had supper, they went to Belleville to St. Mary’s parish closing of the mission. Omer & Bert went out to Henry’s played cards. It is awful cold tonite.

Fried down bacon. Went out to Henry’s butchering a big hog; had dinner. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary helped also. Cloudy, snow a little, not much. Henry & family went to Geodelles for supper, his birthday. Leo & Rose went to Jake’s.

Henry & family, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, were all up, helped to butcher, had lunch & dinner, butchered the large sow. Started in snowing this afternoon, & rain tonite. Eggs 34¢ today.

Pretty cold. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary going to saw wood today; got 24 loads; starting 7:20 this morn. Krebs saw, & O. Birkner, Henry, pap & himself; had dinner, took till about 3 o’clock when finished. Burdgorf of Red Bud got the heifer $210 & 3 lbs. good beef, get it when you want it. Eggs 31¢. Got calandar [sic] from Techny Ill. Al. Cleveland’s family were here played 6 hand pinochle game.
